TPMS replaced at 5000miles or am I getting hosed...???

Suggest you try pricing at Big-O.
Have purchased from the local Big-O twice now and the manager went on line and did price check to match lowest he could find locally. Also look into the replacement warranty to see if it suits your needs. I get a FREE 5 tire rotation/balance every 6K miles and was able to get 78K on my first set of BFG AT/KO's. That included about 30K in the AZ Strip basalt trails, Death Valley washes/ trails, Moab, etc. Have run up to about 90mph at times and never had any tire balance/vibration issues.

If they are not removing them ,then the charge would be BS.The TPMS rebuild kits should be used when removing the sensors mainly because that rubber o-ring and crush washer that seals it get squashed and set in place.

I've both re-used them and bought new ones depending on what shape they looked to be in as I've put my own TPMS sensors on a couple of new sets of wheels. BTW , the torque is 40 in/lbs and is critical to get a good seal and not pinch the rubber o-ring .......ask me how I know and 40 in/lbs is not alot.lol

This is the right kit and part number sold by many places, including Toyota at $10 per wheel..... Xtra Seal 17-20216AK - TPMS Service Kit | O'Reilly Auto Parts

All Discount tire shops are not the same!
I've had nothing but great service from my local Discount Tire but they know me by name and I have bought at least a dozen sets of tires from them in the last 20 years. They have matched the cheapest online price I could find, never broke a stud or scratched a wheel ,free TPMS reset, free rebalance and rotation, fixed flats for free and frankly ,wouldn't go any other place around here. They do have a company wide policy about spacers but I convinced them that the Spidertrax are actually adapters with their own lugs and not just spacers and they didn't have a problem. The problems with cheap spacers occurs when people just put spacers over the stock lugs and don't have the proper thread contact and any tire shop should balk at that really.

Harper I 1000% agree with you, as always... I have been a life long discount tire guy always bought tires there and had a positive experience. There are like 50 locations in town I'll be heading to one of the other ones next time.

so this is how I spent my Sunday... reinstalling my Spidertrax...

I was very happy with how I had originally installed my spidertrax so it was quite a long process cleaning all the old loctight residue to ensure a solid and safe install.

What is the fluid you soaked your nuts in to get rid of the reddish, on your nuts...

I just bought tires and wheels from Discount Tire and bought the TPMS "kit" for $12.00. The shop that did the TPMS install and mount and balance on the new wheels did not use the kit, they said that the factory mounts were better and fit the aftermarket wheel perfectly. With a reprogram there are no idiot lights on the dash.

I rebuild the TPMS when they stop working. I've had new ones fail on their own, and stock ones endure 2 tire changes without a rebuild (road debris lottery winner x2).

I'm just honestly shocked that you don't have any rub without a lift.

Ok so this post makes me wonder how many people out there are getting ripped off by placed like these. If i do a set of tires tomorrow at work with sensors i will post a vid to show the process. The idea of charging for a sensor rebuild is just silly. Some people take them off and some dont when changing tires. This story makes me laugh. I'll try to show you how the pros do it sometime tomorrow. ;)

It's really great to have a bonafide Toyota Technician/Mechanic on here!

And the hits keep coming... So they won't replace the tires cause I have the Spidertrax 1in spacers on my car. "We have to remove them, it's a safety issue,
But we can sell you different rims to give you the same stance" are you serious the Toyota dealership didn't have a problem with them when they rotated my tires. Now you want to try to sell me rims too? Are you ******* serious!?

A couple of months ago I took my daughter's car to a local Firestone Tire shop to have a new set of tires installed on her car. I also asked them to check the alignment. Tire install went fine. Then I get told there's a problem with my the front end on the car. I go out to the garage and while the car is on the lift, the tech shows me the alignment report and says the camber is way off on the right front tire. I look at the report--left and right front tire measurements are just a tad off. I asked so what's the problem? He said the right front side had taken some type of impact and he'd have to replace the control arm to fix it. I thought, WTF? I asked him to show me the damage that indicated to him that the vehicle sustained this serious of an injury. He showed me an area on the lower bottom fender well--the plastic liner--that was torn away from the fender. No damage to fender, no scrape marks on frame or anywhere else. Nothing bent or visibly damaged, etc. No play in the control arm or connecting parts.

The price they quoted me to the job was something like $600.00 or more. I said no. Couldn't afford it. Car drives fine. I asked for an alignment because the tires front tires were wearing a little unevenly. Took the car into another shop about a month later to have the alignment checked. Adjusted toe-in. No other probs.

Now I know.

The Big-O Tire place where I live is known to be the most expensive tire shop in town.

Just two questions: Do the SpiderTrak spacers require a realignment of the front end or any other adjustments/modifications? What are the spacers for? To eliminate the rubbing caused by the 285s?

Ummm not sure on the alignment... I never had an issue with it.

The spacer actually make the rubbing worse if I recall correctly... And the reason to have them is personal preference, maybe you like the look of the wider stance but want to keep the stock rims or you notice the front end nose dive is less with a wider foot print on the road... I would not be one to debate any of these issues... You could talk to 1engineer and he would blow your mind :wow:

Impressive. 1:31 for a tire change. Jay what shop is that, looks like I will be a customer soon.

Sry for the late reply. I have been gone from the forums for awhile. Autonation Toyota. They changed the name of all their dealerships recently. It use to be called "Go Toyota."
