TRD FJ 16" Wheel Clearance Question

I've tried searching to see if I could find an answer before starting a thread, but couldn't find a definitive answer.

The long and short of it is after my ex and I split, she kept her truck that I had put the 16" TRD wheels off the 08 TRD FJ (the six spoke gunmetal looking ones) and I bought another Runner off of a member here for a song. My truck is running the 16" split three spoke OE wheels with 285/75R16 BFG KM2s, and the clearance between the inside sidewall and the UCA is maybe a quarter inch. I am thinking that the offset is different on the TRD wheels, and I may run into clearance issues after the swap happens, so I was thinking I should order some spacers.

Has anyone run or tried that tire/wheel combo that can tell me if I will need spacers before both trucks go in to the shop to have the wheels and tires swapped? And if I do indeed need spacers, what size/spacing do I need to clear? Thanks in advance :beer:

I don't have experience with either wheel so I can't help you there, just keep in mind that if you buy wheel spacers, put them on after you get the wheels swapped. Shops won't touch a truck with wheel spacers nor will they install them for you.

I've got the TRD 16" wheels and with my 295s they rubbed the UCA when I turned so I bought some BORA .75" wheel spacers and they are absolutely perfect. There's about .25" clearance at full droop and lock. Now the 295s are about .3" or so wider than the 285s depending on tire brand. With the KM2s they have the sidewall blocks so that may be an issue if you wheel it and droop. GetOut runs the same wheels and has 285s and he said he only very slightly rubbed.

So to sum that up, if you plan on offroading or being in any situation with the tire off the ground I would go ahead and buy some .75" wheel spacers. If not you should be fine for daily driving. Don't 100% hold me to that though because the KM2s do have the beefier side wall tread. If you do end up getting spacers you don't need to go any further than .75"

Thank you for pointing that out. Luckily, being a Toyota parts slanger, I have many friends that do stuff on the side for beer on "shop nights" and for cheap when they actually charge me :lol:

I take the truck out in my buddy's 200 acres at least twice a year on some not-so-hairy trails, and want to do some fire trails and Shoe Creek later this fall, so sounds like I need them. Thank you, going to call the local shop I deal with and poke around the net to see what I'm looking at :beer:

Do you have a Peerless tire in your area? They'll do pretty much anything I ask them to. Including mounting 12.5" wide tires on a 6" rim, lol.

Hahaha nope, I've never heard of them. That's funny though. Are you the guy they make sign a waiver when they work on your truck :lol: :jk:

I finally got this taken care of after the ex blew a tire last week. They ended up having to use 3/8" spacers up front to insure clearance, I may bump up to 1/2" and order them for all 4 corners.
