TRD PRO Info (please)

Hey. This is my first post on this site... However I have been a member of quite a few other forums over the years...

Here is my story... My current DD is a 2012 Nissan Rogue SL AWD. I love it and this is my first SUV (CUV), having come from a line of sedans prior....

However, having driven it the past few years, I realized I wanted something a little more rugged... So 6 months ago I bought a 92 Jeep Wrangler as a toy... Big mistake lol... I've spent a couple thousand on it to fix it up and it is still a 23 year old Jeep and I don't want to spend anymore on it... I want to sell it and cut my losses...

Fast forward to where I am now.... I have been considering selling the 92 Wrangler, and when my lease is up on my 2012 Nissan, getting a 2015 Wrangler 4 door....

But for the money, you're not getting much "car" for the money. Meaning its mostly a statement on wheels to me...

I live in NYC and don't do much offroading at all... Maybe a beach or two... But I still want a rugged vehicle... So I have been doing a little research on the 2015 4Runner TRD Pro, and I have decided that I want one. I think it will be a much more practical replacement for my DD....

I plan on getting it in about 6-8 months... That being said, I do have a few questions....

1)How hard are they to come by? I know they are just about coming out now, but I was curious how easy they will be to find at local dealers soon, or if they need to be ordered and I'll have to wait for mine....

2)For the people who have bought/leased them already, how much did you pay?

3)Will I be able to get a good deal (under invoice)? Or because its a limited production model, will they bleed me for every penny?

theres a total 1500 in the US available, 500 each color, so that should answer that question. I drove from Los Angels to Phoenix to buy mine. there was a guy sitting on the couch at the dealer that drove from Las Vegas hoping i wouldn't show up so that he could snag it.

2)For the people who have bought/leased them already, how much did you pay?
$39.4, 2k under MSRP, but you will hear all about some that paid 3-5-10K! over...why? some guys are willing to pay that i guess. Again, i drove from Los Angeles to Phoenix to get it. all but one California dealer wanted over msrp for it, the one that didn't sold it the day i called about it. You just have to be willing to look outside your 10 minute drive to find the car you want for the price you want. Ive bought my last 3 cars outside of Los Angeles for that reason. some markets are easier to deal with. Use Cars.com or edmunds to find where the exact car you want is and send them an email. Internet sales department will always give you a better deal than walking in, special if they know your coming in from out of town....your car will be ready to drive off as soon as you sign the papers sync they ll be expecting you.

no chance you'll ever find it for invoice, much less under. the supply and demand for it doesn't put a need or want for dealers to consider it.... unless you know the dealership owner that is. They'll only bleed you if you let them, they didn't bleed me at all, i paid under msrp.

between jeep and a toyota the main differences to consider will be on-road drivability and reliability. The Jeep will out off-road the 4runner by a bit mainly due to approach angles, but on the road and reliability wise its not really comparable.

I know this from personal experience with both.

There will only be 1500 made total for the US? Wow... I hope I'll still be able to get a black one in 6-8 months!

3500 world wide, 1500 in the US yes.


i believe the black run is over with and maybe even the white.
now I'm seeing all the red ones showing up. but I'm only saying that from watching what goes on this forum at TRD Pro thread.
 
What about just the regular Trail Edition? You might find a better deal on that than a TRD Pro, and you can gussy it up with many of the TRD Pro parts straight from the dealer. Or even save a few grand and get an SR5 and add the TRD Pro parts.
 
Thanks for the responses. I've taken a look at that thread, but it is 150+ pages long... Any particular page I should start from? Reading through all of those pages will take a lot of time...

I want the features of at least a Trail Premium, but if I get a Trail Premium and buy the TRD suspension stuff from Toyota, that truck will come out to be more than the TRD Pro....

I guess I may have to get out of my lease early and get the TRD Pro in Feb or March instead of June, and just deal with the negative equity. I didn't realize this truck was in such demand

All I have to say is good luck being able to get one. You better contact every dealer that you're willing to travel- to see if you can "hold" one. You better do that IMMEDIATELY!!!! Most are on lots for a day or two if they haven't already been spoken for.

Also, the TEP is plenty rugged and should be more than you need. You'll be able to negotiate for under invoice. If you're getting the KDSS suspension you probably don't want to take that out and then put in the PRO suspension.

I ordered mine in September and it should be here late January. I ordered the Inferno orange and they just started coming out this last week or so.

There were 3 available in my state up until today. I see one left now. They don't seem to sell as well as some people are making it out. There was a white one available for almost 2 weeks and it was just taken off the site today. They even did a SELLING NOW FOR pricing on it and it was $39300. Guess that finally sold it.
 
what about the Pro attracts you? an out of the box cool looking truck? the wheels are cool but can be bought separate.... aside from that there is nothing special about the Pro other that the cool badge. the suspension is mediocre and the grill fascia? meh oh and fancy carpet mats.... and before any Pro owner get butthurt they look good, just not worth the money in "MY" opinion

Anyone know what the process is for ordering one? Can I just go to the dealer and order it?

How long should it take to get here if I do that? Because if it will take at least 3-6 months to arrive, ill gladly leave a deposit before the year is out, and Ill be closer to my lease end by the time it arrives...

Resale value, cool factor, exclusivity, upgraded suspension

Trail comes stock with features not available in TRRP. Your comparing MSRP . . . If your looking for a deal the TDRP is not your model.

All 4Runners have an outstanding resale, your not buying a Chrysler.

If your the one who wants to drive off the lot with an upgraded truck, not interested in aftermarket upgrades, price isn't a big issue . . . then the TRDP would probably be at home in your garage.

exactly, and that's if you paid msrp, i paid the same for my TRDP as a trail premium.

I don't want to sound rude but didn't you read what I told you earlier? CONTACT EACH DEALER CLOSE TO YOU AND SEE IF THEY HAVE ONE COMING! IF THEY DO HAVE ONE PUT MONEY DOWN ON IT. IF THEY DON'T HAVE ONE COMING SEE IF THEY CAN ORDER YOU ONE. TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE IF YOU REALLY DO WANT ONE.
