TRD PRO Info (please)

Spoke to a few dealers today... So far over the phone I was quoted $41.3k, $40.1k, and $39.3k

Nice, Not quite the picture some are painting huh? The truck sells for msrp or below no problem, all you have to do is a little homework ;)

Yeah, the one that quoted me $39k literally just blurted it out 30 seconds into the convo. Easy as pie.

The only thing now is to see if I can get a dealer to buy my Nissan for what I still owe on the lease which is essentially $2.5k over KBB trade-in value... Because if they dont, whatever negative equity Im left with will bring the 4runner's price back up to almost $42k (or more) before taxes. Not that great unless they help me out and make my lease a wash.

A friendly suggestion is to get the quotes in writing with signatures and a deposit check, that is what we had to do. Every area is different, many So Cal dealers are charging above MSRP and are refusing deposits. The dealers in our area would only do MSRP. The manager stated that if the one we put a deposit on physically made it to the lot before being claimed he was going to add $3K to the sticker price.

We made the deposit and signed agreement on a Friday evening, that weekend 3 couples inquired about the vehicle and one offered the dealer $1,000 over what we were paying...he had to show that customer our check and written agreement. Happy hunting!

to you.. to me is a pain free warrantied 90% ready off-road truck that to me looks great.

seriously, why do you guys shit on us that bought it? yes, consistently bring up what you feel is "not worth the money" is shitting on those that bought it.
just say something nice or don't say anything. you don't see us thumbing our noses at you as if we bought something better than yours. whatever 4runner you have I'm stoked youre happy with it.
I personally could have bought an SR5 and save money. do you HONESTLY think that i didn't look at the different 4runner models and carefully weigh my options as to which one was a better buy FOR ME? really?! i drove off with the TRD pro, not the SR5, not the trail not the limited... how about respecting that a little? i obviously thought it was worth the extra money. The fact that you feel "it doesn't take a degree in rocket surgery to know that the TRD PRO is a PISS POOR (really man?) investment" makes us VERY different kind of buyers. I don't see the 4runner as an "investment" for starters, its a truck I'm gong to off road and likely own for more than a decade...if thats what you call an "investment" then i don't know where to start explaining the difference. second, i do feel the extra money is worth me not having to go out and buying the wheels/tires/shocks/skid/plate that this truck already comes with...for 1k more than the truck that doesn't (never mind that i paid under msrp to boot). now i can spend my money, but more importantly, MY TIME on other things for this truck. Also its nice that it looks great, i love the cosmetic touches on this truck. how much is that worth to me? enough obviously.

and btw, this is not Pirate. Im new here but i can clearly see the difference. This is a 4runner community of people that like 4runners that for the most part act very respectfully towards fellow 4runner owners because we all have that in common ...except towards TRD pro owners for some reason. Pirate is a pissing contest off road community filled with dirtbags that for the most part have no clue what they're talking about, please don't feel it ok to behave like those idiots over there, it would be a shame to turn this place.

im not dogging the people that already bought one, you made up your mind to go and do that - thats not my prerogative. my goal is to sway people from buying a TRD Pro that think they're getting something extra when they're paying MSRP or over it. there is nothing about the TRD pro, including the suspension "upgrade" that will show itself with more offroading prowess than a Trail. Im happy you are happy, thats what matters in the end. everyone dogs on the Pro because all it is is a pretty smile with nothing to gain underneath, and its a piss poor investment when you are going to go out and start changing things on it. 90$% of the Pro owners on this forum are going to lift their truck, put different tires on it and probably at some point put a new front bumper on it. what is it then? its a Trail that says Pro on the C pillar with awesome factory wheels.

the only difference between the Pro's and a trail outside of cosmetics is the suspension, which is easily rivaled in the aftermarket world for the same money you'll end up paying as a premium for having a Pro. Magnusson-Moss act says that the manufacturer has to prove the aftermarket components are cause for voiding the warranty, and of which the aftermarket components you'll buy all have their own separate warranty.

if you don't want to look at owning a car as an investment thats fine. but i don't make enough money to not consider if what I'm buying is worth the length of time i'll own it.

You sir are not smarter. You are in fact "butthurt" and better suited for Pirate4x4 with your fellow butt hurt pirates.

i am smarter, and I'm not butt hurt - because i don't care. you have to care to be butt hurt. id love to have a Pro, simply for what it is - its cool. but I'm not going to buy one, and anyone else who is going to buy one to simply mod it is wasting their money.

The Trail lacks features that the Pro has. The standard Trail does not have an auto-dimming rear view mirror, doesn't have SofTex interior, no Homelink transceiver, no premium audio, auto headlights(?)...the Pro has all of these features. My brother sold cars at two different dealerships and anything that is a limited run retains value better.

I would venture to say that most Pro owners are not going to modify them, hence why they bought the Pro. I've heavily modded vehicles before and prefer not to go down that road on a daily driver, and the Pro is warrantied from the factory.

Look guys no offense, but put your e-penises away or play swords in another thread please.

Back to the topic...

*UPDATE*... I put my Nissan DD up on leasetrader.... Hopefully I can get out of it one way or another!!!!

I agree... I for one, am not going to modify it aside from some nice tint and maybe HID headlights.... That's it.

Sorry if I came off harsh lol... I just think its silly at this point. I want a TRD PRO, and many others do. No naysayer is going to persuade me otherwise. Enjoy your SR5 and let me enjoy my TRD Pro...

Unless of course, you want to give me $30k+.... Then, I'll buy whichever model you tell me to :peace:

Wow what a thread. Here is the problem:
There have been posts here in this forum that are from existing or potential owners that insinuate that the TRDPro is the baddest vehicle on four wheels and that every other 4runner is inferior.

There have been posts from the same guys trying to justify the big price adder and inevitable comparisons to other models of 4runners.

The truth is the LE model has the torsion center diff, heated and cooled seats and several other comfort Items.
The TE Premium has a sunroof and KDSS.
The TRDPro has remote reservoir shocks.
The SR5 Premium is the best value.

There ya go. That is what each model can offer. I did not list wheels because every model has different wheels. Except for the above listed items everything else is about the looks.

The issue is some of the Pro existing or future owners are trying to justify buying them for reasons other than the main number one reason: They look cool! Pretty much everyone here knows that the TRDPro suspension can be recreated for less so quit trying to justify it. Residual value is already higher than anything else for just 4runners in general. You might get a few more percent with the Pro but not enough more to make a difference as it's already around 70% after three years on any model of 4runners. If you are a Pro owner or looking to get a Pro just be honest: You paid a premium for looks! Don't be ashamed! I thought about getting one too! Why? For looks!!!
Trying to justify it for anything else is not very smart on this forum. Maybe at the office or at the gym or to your wife and kids but not at a place where 4runner and off road experts and a whole bunch of engineers congregate.

1engineer - "The TE Premium has a sunroof and KDSS"

Actually, you can get a Trail Premium without KDSS... a highly contentious suspension system that people attempt to try to justify or discredit based on.. ooops, oh wait... my bad... forget I said that... (Nevermind) nothing to see here, please keep moving...

;-)

Amazing... I've never been on a forum focused on a single vehicle where fellow owners shit on other so much over the model they chose.

If some TRD pro owners are coming off as if they bought the best 4 runner then that's just as dumb. The. Best 4Runner is the one you bought.... You had a choice and you bought that model.

To fill every TRD pro thread with negativity about it being basically a rip off is mind blowing.

You don't think the extras are worth it? I do. That should be the end of that discussion.
There are very good reasons I didn't buy one of the other models... None of them were that I thought it was the best example of the model... Simply the one that fit my needs best. And i guarantee you that's how 99.9% of TRD pro owners will answer the same question.

I was going to buy the trail premium without kdds, without tray and hoping I could delete the sunroof.
Then I was going to add an ome 2" lift which wouldn't have been under a Toyota warranty.

PLEASE explain to me how I just made a mistake by buying a TRD pro for $39.4k over a trail premium? I see it as the same truck with the suspension I was going to put on it anyway. I do TONS of overlanding. Reliability and parts under warranty are a great plus to me, but by no means means the TRD pro is the species king, c'mon. The LE is by all means the ultimate expression of the truck, I think the price of it alone makes that obvious.... But it was pretty far from what I needed in my 4Runner, that's all.
I wish my truck had cooling seats, JBL, dual zone climate, awd w/center lock (like my discovery), I wish it had a lot of those things... I also wish I didn't have to buy wheels, suspension and I wish I didn't have all that extra body molding or a sunroof. See? Every model has pluses and minuses. You pick the one tha fits best and don't shit in the guy that bought the other one.

On topic but a little off. Everyone keeps talking about "the looks" of the TRDPro. This may have been answered somewhere else, but besides the suspensions, can the front end grille not be purchased separately and be put on a Trail or SR5 ???

Easy enough. $2300 is all it takes to make a Trail a TRDP then. Made my shopping a lot easier. Thanks for the link.

:tape2: should I dare say my past Land Rover Defender or Pinzgauer that was one hell of a truck or me putting ln a total choas in an FJ. I think each and every ones situations and rneeds are different. Sommuch complaining and still see much butthurt over it. I dont care who think which one is the bes this or that, the 4Runner is definitely not the best, do I like it yes. Will it meet my needs yes, can I get the TRD Pr for under Invoice definitely yes. Then why not? Nomally I wouldteven this vehicle around have even ot oe but I said it looks shot hot, love the Inferno color, the all terrains are great tires for going back to my cabin when the weather is bad and washes out, etc..... I looked at getting a TE and even an SR5 but my payments didnt change monthly from my Silverado, imy needs will be met allowing me to have something to go camping, fly fishing, take my dog around with me every day I want to venture out.

To the thread starter again I think you are on the right track, i would cation getting out of your lease early, if you are willing to take the hit cool if not dont sweat it, again you ca find another special edition or even on of the TE/SR5 and upgrade it with some parts others dont want or need anymore.

I do like how no one commented on getting it with a free lifetime warranty for the drivetrain, suspension, etc. those not having blown shocks, tie rods, wheel bearings etc. you will be grunting the cost on most of it if you have upgrades, in the end life is just easier if I wanted another offroader ai would get another Defender or Pinzgauer though the Pinz has the benefit of being able to make it through a nuclear attack!

For the last time, Im getting a TRD Pro. Im not going to buy a SR5 or Trail and add crap to it.

Stop soiling my thread with this garbage. I asked very specific questions in my OP... None of which were "Do you approve of my decision to buy a TRD Pro?"...

Its like talking to a bunch of children.

Ha!

Hey, sounds like you've found plenty dealers giving you a great price on it. Now the plan should be to secure a black one by finding out from dealers when they know it has been allotted to them. Once they know that then you can give them a deposit and as soon as it's actually assigned and en route you can actually buy it before it gets to them. That way you avoid the 3 hrs of "were cleaning it" "it's going through final delivery " blah blah

The dealer that quoted me $40.1k has a black one in stock, and the dealer that quoted me $39.3k said they have one in transit :bluejump:
