Trd pro lift question

I installed the Toytec TRD Pro lift way back in November of 2015, and had no issues with it at all, as far as performance/issues ect.

One thing that always bothered me just a little, was the almost 2 inch front rake. I liked where the rear stood, but always wished the front was a little higher.

I just recently replaced the Toytec kit with the Icon Stage 2 kit, and I love having the ability to adjust the front coilovers.

Along with better on-road/off-road performance, I was able to get the rake where I wanted it. From almost 2 inches, down to about .75....

The rear measures about the same heighth as the Toytec kit, but I was able to bump up the front height a little over an inch from where it was before, to get it leveled out.

Here are some pics for comparison:
1. Stock w/ stock 265 Nittos
2. Toytec Kit w/ 275 K02's
3. Icon w/ 285 K02's

My experience with the toytec 2" lift

Hey guys. I had my lift installed last week and got a chance to take "Trudy" (My TRD Pro) on a Skiing/fishing trip over the weekend.

I got the Superflex 2.0 HD springs and the 2" spacer up front. At the same time I switched to the Nitto Ridge grapplers E rated. I got the HD springs to support the SSO bumper and I was a little nervous that it would be a rougher ride, especially with adding the 10 ply tires to the mix.

I was warned by my fishing buddies that the road over was in extremely bad shape. One of them had broke a leaf spring on his Taco the week before. We piled into the 4R and hit the road. I was freaking amazed. I have never been in a vehicle that could soak up bumps and be so comfortable on such a disaster of a road. Multiple times my buddies gave the "Oh shit... here comes a really bad spot" and we virtually floated over these massive imperfections in the road. Trudy rides remarkably better than the day I took her off the lot.

We also got onto some unplowed roads on our way into some spots and the Nittos trudged through 10-12 inches of snow without a problem.

Just wanted to share my experience and the fact that this has been the best upgrade I've done to my vehicle to date. I would highly recommend it. Beyond impressed with this setup.

Looks really good viper! What is the ride quality like compared to the Toytec? Any funny noises? Any profile shots?

Thanks man! The ride quality is awesome.....Takes rough roads/speed bumps a lot better....Haven't been off road yet, but will soon, & I'm sure I'll be happy.

No funny noises...Pretty quiet actually. I'll try to post some profile shots later today.

Thanks again.

In a search for an aggressive stance, I came upon some rubbing on my stock nittos with the installation of my Spidertrax Spacers. Not stressing! But it's lead me to this thread and love all the pics. Really appreciative.

I'm looking to getting the Toytec lift and upgrading the tires to 275s. However, the rake is truly bothering me so wondering what are some alternatives to the ones. I see the ICON lift as an alternate, but wonder if I could stack a spacer with the ToyTec lift to level out the rake. And what impact that would have on the ride? :lookout:

I have the Toytec spacer lift and run the spidertrax spacers with no rubbing. The rake does stay with this lift and really can be only altered by changing the front coil-overs with the true Bilsteins adjustable's, not like the ones on the TRDP that come stock that are not actually adjustable. There is some difference in the ride, but it's minimal and easy to adjust to. The stock tire on mine is 275, and I will replace them with 285's when the time comes. There is some needed trimming with a heat gum and a razor knife from my research, but not enough to discourage me.

With the Toytec lift for the billsteins - does toyota void the warranty? Not really shy of modding it but wonder whatToyota's stance is with this.

Anyone hear about issues with lifting and the impact on the drivetrain or transmission? I know some of the post 2016's Tacoma/Tundra had issues with the traction control due to the rake being eliminated but not sure about the 4Runner.

No such issues here as of yet.

All right, so this thread has become more or less about the TRD Pro Toytec kit, so I might do better to start a new thread but I guess I'll start here. I don't know if any of this is possible but maybe someone with experience will know.

It seems like the Bilstein suspension on the Pro is the 5160 / 6112 combo set to the lowest setting (?). Seeing as the Toytec kit replaces the rear springs resulting in a ~2" lift, would it be possible to also simply change the springs on the coilovers to lift the front rather than put spacers on? I'm much more interested in a proper suspension lift than spacers that preload the COs.

I'm pretty sure it's not that simple, or Toytec (or someone?) would be selling TRD Pro spring replacement lift kits by the ton.

Anyone? TotalAutomotiveLV Dobinsons Mike

I've been wondering the same thing regarding using OME coils. Would 884's work over the stock Billi 5100's on my 16 Pro? I also do not want to use spacers. At this point though I'm thinking of just saving up to buy an Icon stage II kit. (There must be a reason so many OME coils are up for sale in the used section!)

I doubt they use a different end on the coil (size and shape) than a stock one, but I'm not sure. If you want to give me some measurements, I have some of our coils right here and I could check it. We definitely have a lot of different coil options, different spring rates and heights, to offer.

Will PM you shortly. Thanks for the response!

Question about lift... I am getting a TRD PRO and was thinking bout the toytec 2/2 lift but reading sounds like people are nt huge fans of it.... I am thinking I will do a 2 inch cornfed spacer in the front with Icon 2" lift springs in the rear as I often tow my side x side. Anyone think this is a good idea or have other suggestions

We have seen a lot of success with OME Coils on Bilstein 5100's. This is a great option for those with bumpers and winches.

There are options for aftermarket springs for the 6112's; 650 and 700lb.

We look forward to seeing what Dobinsons Mike comes up with on the TRD set-up.

Help Needed

All,

I got the Toytec 2 inch kit installed on my 4Runner few months ago. The different between front and back is 3 inches (if I am running on empty or close to empty tank of gas). That different becomes 2 inches or so if the tank is full.

I have few questions:
- Should the difference be 2 inches on an empty tank or full tank?
- Is there a way to get the truck level after installing the Toytec kit?

Thank you

I'm not sure exactly what you're saying so I'm going to try to respond to both ways I'm reading this. Obviously all lifts are somewhat variable in the amount they raise the vehicle depending on the static load on the springs (bumpers, winches, rear cargo, etc.). However, 20 gallons of gas weighs approx 125 lbs which isn't a lot of weight in the grand scheme of things. I would not expect an inch difference in the lift based solely on a full tank of gas: think about having a fairly small adult female in the cargo area and that alone making a 1" difference in rear lift on a 5000 lb vehicle. It just shouldn't happen.

Are you saying that you have a positive rake (rear of truck higher than front of truck) of 3" OR that you got 3" of lift out of the Toytec kit? Because that is why many people who bought this kit tried the 1.5" SAW rear coils (same ones now rebranded to Wheeler's Offroad T12) to get less rake / more level. From what I have read most of them ended up 2" higher than stock anyway. In fact, so many people have installed this kit with similar results that I'm willing to guess that maybe something is wrong with your install or how you're measuring, no offense intended.

To level the truck, obviously you could either find a larger front spacer and be in the range where you're starting to have to look at an aftermarket UCA to keep your alignment in spec (3"+). I wouldn't go this route since you'd only be putting more preload on the front COs without any more useable suspension travel AND you're looking at more cost for UCAs. Alternately, you could look for a smaller rear spring like the Dobinsons C59-599 (link: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-g...pension-options-lots-choices.html#post2580713) ...or try going back to the stock spring.

I'm working on a possible alternative to the Toytec spacer lift without replacing the stock TRD Bilsteins. It remains to be seen what this will look like as far as rake but as soon as I get answers either way I'll be reporting back to this thread.

Either way, good luck.
