Trd pro lift question

I finished the rears install today and i can definitely say the le springs are shorter than the trdp, fronts are totally different hence the smaller body shocks

Ordered and installed this kit from Toytec:

Toytec lift kit for TRD Pro 4Runners

I'm honestly disappointed at how much rake I have now. I know it says it lifts both the front and rear 2" - maybe I just didn't notice that much rake from the factory?

In any case... I would like to drop the rear to sit more level.

Anyone have recommendations for springs to accomplish this?
Dobinsons is currently testing 2" lift, stock rate springs for the TRD Pro models. We have a lack of 2" front lift options, given that the stock springs are 13" and just about every manufacturer makes springs in even numbers [12", 14", 16", etc.]

You can call ToyTec and ask for 1.5" Sway Away rear coils. Levels it out pretty nicely.

I have the same kit sitting under my house and was worried about the rear being too high. Do you have any photos or measurements? Also toytec is recommending upper control arms, anyone done them with this kit?

UCA’s are generally needed when you lift over 2-3” in the front. I had their 3” kit on my SR5 and had no issues with the alignment using the stock UCAs

Toytec TRD Pro lift and 285/70/17 Nitto Ridge Grapplers.

No rubbing so far......haven’t driven off-road yet, will see how it does off-road.

Stock wheels, no spacers.

Ridge Grapplers are quiet and smooth. Had the lift a few weeks before moving up to 285s. Very pleased with lift and tires.

I think that looks great. I'm assuming you just used the Superflex coils and didn't ask them to swap out for the 1.5 SAW coils?

That does look pretty great. Was debating on the Toytec kit but worried about extra rake. This doesn’t seem that bad.

Got the eibach 14” 600lb springs in today, I’m a little nose high right now but after a while it should settle about level. With the 14” spring being 1” longer over trdp stock I set the perches at the bottom, maybe just a 10mm trim packer in the rear would do the trick I’ll likely order some up to play with. Tested the flexibility and I was well impressed with having the sway bars still attached, I don’t think I’ll be taking them loose anyhow but it was a tremendous difference from xreas for sure.

I will try to find a level spot to take some pictures this weekend and some measurements for you.

No UCAs or anything like that.

Running 285s and love the stance and look. Most people don't mind the rake I'm sure.. But I was hauling some really heavy construction rock the other day and it level it out so nicely... It just reminded me that I rarely have enough weight to need the extra height, and I much prefer the look at level.

Toytech TRD Pro 2” lift with Superflex rears on 285 KO2s. Love the new stance. Ride is buttery smooth.

I have the same Pro Comp Kit, 2018 Trd Pro, I installed the front spacers and all was good, but if you install the diff drop you can't get the front skid plate on with out spacers for it. Also when I was installing the rear spacers I had issues with the spacers not fitting correctly on the isolators. I called Pro Comp and was told that the kit was for a FJ and the rear spacers will not work for my 4runner unless I modify the isolators or by FJ isolators. So that being said check the rear spacers to see if they are seated properly.

JetMech : After installing Pro Comp Kit, did your rear look little high? I am running the same kit with Bilstein 5100(Luckily Didnt run into Isolator problem), rear looks high and rake is pretty bad. I added 33" and didnt help either.

Hi Booth,

I know I promised some measurements, but unfortunately I didn't get a chance to do those.

I found an open opportunity this afternoon to install the new springs. After the recommendations here, and speaking with Toytec, I did end up going with Sway-A-Way 1.5" rear coils.

While I didn't get a lot of measurements, here are some pictures that might help you decide.

First and foremost.. Obviously this isn't level ground. And I cannot tell you how excited I am for my house to be complete where I have a nice 3 bay garage to do work like this in. This working in the dirt and dust takes me back to college... and I didn't like it back then any more.

Here is a before picture:

The passenger side went very easy. This is actually the best angle to see the size difference in the springs:

Here is another picture of the spring differences. The Toytec pro on the left, the new sway-a-way in the center, and stock on the right. I tried to get out of the sun to get the picture and I messed up the angle doing that.

Driver side was a little more of a pain. I didn't have a wrenching buddy to help me out... and I was so darn close to getting the old spring out. I didn't really want to monkey too much with the panhard bar, and I knew I needed just a little bit more to get it out...

So a little redneck ingenuity here. I found that by placing the tire on top of the hub and laying on it gave me enough weight to drop it far enough to remove that spring by myself:

And this is the after picture:

Again I apologize for no measurements. I think you can see from the pictures there is a decent difference. I will say this: I took the picture, took the 4runner straight up in the air, replaced the springs, dropped it straight back down and took the after picture. I know the ground wasn't level, but it was as close to being in the exact place for the before and after pictures.

I think these are the springs the kit should come with. I do not like the rake at all. I get why some people would like it... But 90% of the time I don't carry anything heavy enough to need that extra height in the rear. I much prefer the more level stance!

Does the ToyTec TRD Pro lift increase the lift to a total of 3 inches or 2 inches? From what it says it does a 2 inch lift and is designed for the Pro making it 3 inches. For those that have it what is it?

Super confused. I want the TRD Pro lift 2” but fear too much rake. I have an 80lb slim bumper add on with a warn winch. Another 70lb. So with an additional 150lb on the front will this be too raked? I have KO2 285 and currently rubs at stock once I added the wheel spacers. I want this thing level. Any opinions on what to buy?

What you're asking for isn't easy if you're looking to keep your stock Pro suspension because of the weight you've added. The only people I'm aware of that have added weight mods to their Pro rigs have also replaced the suspension.

Here would be your options, as I see them:

Add spacers - Adding a spacer to the stock setup will result in less nose dive because the spring is "preloaded" meaning that it's already compressed a little bit by the spacer, but the trade off is that you've lost that suspension down-travel equivalent to whatever size spacer you've added. The exact amount of lift you get from the spacer will be slightly different (less) because of the weight - but that's because of the spring rate, not the spacer. A spacer lift is also not ideal for harder off roading.

Change your springs - Ideally if you're going to add weight you need a heavier spring (higher spring rate) to deal with the increased load. Dobinsons has a heavy duty coil (1" and 2" lift heights) in development for the TRD Pro Bilstein system that should take care of your problem but they haven't released it yet and who knows if they ever will. You're not the only one waiting for it, when they release it I have a feeling it'll sell like hotcakes but for now you'll just have to wait if that's what you want. You could also try looking for a 2.5" coil that would give you the lift and better weight management. King makes one and I know there are others that do as well.

Replace your suspension - You can replace the stock Bilstein system to something that's more easily modified, which would include just about every other aftermarket suspension system out there lol. Good luck.

Appreciate the response. When you say spacer do you mean like the 1” body lift spacers by toytec? If not, do you have any links or brand names for what you are referring to?

Thank you!

I meant spacers on the strut for sure. Also, and I say this as gently as possible, please do not do NOT buy anything without doing about a month of reading on this forum. I can predict with reasonable certainty that what you end up wanting is going to change when you're more informed. Start with the stickied threads at the top of the 5th Gen section and take it from there.

As far as spacer brands, check Toytec's website (and you can always call them for more advice), and look into Revtec and Daystar. Good luck man.
