TruTrac, in front IFS

Thank you!

Yes, I have seen your thread. It is a great write up and it is extremely helpful. I have e-mailed ECGS and I am awaiting their response to see if they still sell the part.

Mainly trying to get an update from everyone running this in the front. See if they installed or did not install the bronze bushing/bearing upgrade. Find out how is everything holding up with or without it.

The price of the LSD is in my budget, for what it will accomplish. But I have not factored in the upgrade.

I have an Aussie locker. Straight plug and play bolt in and go.
No manual front hubs, no ecgs bushings
Both axles fit perfect
The only thing I got extra is the shims that Aussie recommends for the locker so that engagement and disengagement perfectly.
Great upgrade

Whow, i never heard of the Aussie locker before. That thing almost sounds to good to be true. Very fair price too.

Have you had any issues in 2wd, awd or 4wd? Do you have it in both differentials? Is the rig you have it in your DD? What kind of locker is this?

Sorry for all the questions. Im still learning about differentials and lockers. Ive been looking at LSD's as i cant justify a ARB system as its my DD/WW.

I'm very happy with mine and have had no issues at all. I did do the bronze bushing upgrade.

The Aussie is a "lunchbox" locker. It will definitely cause steering feedback when in 4WD and it may be hard to turn -- make Mark can chime in on his experience with it. We had a 1st gen in the family for a while that had a lunchbox in the front diff. It impacted its driveability in 4WD but it was a highly effective locker.

By impacting driveability in 4wd do you mean binding or other issues? I've read Aussie's guide on the locker and they do say you would need to take turns smoothly and slowly. Which isn't ideal for my driving style ha. Lot of winding roads over here.

The price and the plug n play is very appealing though. The LSD l I've been looking at is 500 and that's without paying someone to install it or buying the tools and attempting to install it myself.

MarkamisPrime what are your thoughts Mark?

Despite my money being tied up in new tires and gears this month, this fellow PNWer is also curious about an Aussie locker over LSD.

Hey JZiggy! Do have experience with lifting a front wheel in the True Trac? Can you do a brake tap to engage the True Trac, like a normal LSD?

Yes! It works!

I also have a 1st gen with dual TTs and a 4.7 kit. Crawling up steep, muddy washes if I start to slow a increase the gas and feather the brake and it locks back up. You usually don’t have to “trick” the TT to do its job though.

My ideal setup for an auto trans would be an Aussie locker in the rear and lsd in the front, I ran a rear Aussie locker in my daily driven 4runner for a long time and really liked it, however once I swapped to a manual transmission it became much harder to keep it from locking up when I didn’t want it to so I took it out, I will eventually run dual trutracs.

JZiggy,
One more question. Did you buy the TT directly from ECGS, or did you purchase it somewhere else and ship it to ECGS for the bronze bearing upgrade.
Thanks!

Did you have any issues with the Aussie locker while you ran a AT? Specifically with turning since that is really the only concern they expressed on their website. No issues with 2wd, awd or 4wd? Unwanted locking?

Not at all, if I really got on the gas around a tight corner I could make it lock up but otherwise I never noticed it was there until I needed it and 4wd didn’t make a difference.

I have an Aussie in the front. Has been great for my application. Biggest issue I have found is running 4hi on compact snow/ice. The locker in front will try to keep pulling you straight when cornering. If you feather the gas it will allow the locker to release. Or sometimes I just unlock one hub.

ECGS can do everything.

I have not found anybody selling Eaton Detroit True Trac part 911A644. I can only find 911A342 for around $540. Still waiting to hear back from ECGS. I just asked them about the parts. I have not asked about the upgrade, yet.

Thank you guys. This locker seems right up my ally. Im going to get one after the holidays. I appreciate the feedback.

I also started a thread when trying to figure out what option I wanted. Of course arb is the way to go. But I couldn’t justify the price for the amount of times I’d actually use it and it’s not forgiving at all once it’s locked it’s locked and it will not disengage if your bound up on a big rock. My brother in law has one in his rig
I have had an Aussie in the rear of my explorer for 7 years now running 35s and have zero issues or wear on the Aussie
No binding, it is a lunchbox locker
The only thing I noticed is at very slow 4lo-4hi speeds steering is heavy but the locker disengages like it should when you need it too
It does always want to pull you straight but I haven’t found it to be an issue on big rocks or fire roads or snow and ice
The faster you are driving when you turn the easier it is for the locker to disengage or ratchet as it should.
That’s why at slow speed you feel the heavy steering because it’s always locked and a little momentum helps the inside wheel spin faster as it normally does.
Awd still prioritizes rwd so it’s perfect for just a rainy day awd mode drive.
I can still hear the locker ratcheting as it should in awd but I have no changes in steering fees back like in 4lo-4hi
I also have a rear elocker and I haven’t had to use it since I got the Aussie installed honestly.
There is only one video of a guy installing a Spartan locker on his 3rd gen PHORunner I think he is called on YouTube
Good video to get an idea of how three install process would go
BUT as I learned you DO NOT have to lift the motor or trans up to free the front diff.
I have done it now on two different 3rd gens and the front diff comes out super easy without having the headache of lifting the trans or removing a motor mount and lifting the engine.

Any other questions feel free to ask
I like bombing down fire roads and slow crawling on big rocks and the locker hasn’t failed me or disappointed me an anyway shape or form.
