Here’s one I thought of, has anyone run an Aussie locker in the front on a daily driven 5 speed? I do have lockout hubs but drive with them locked if I think I’ll need 4wd
Mark,BUT as I learned you DO NOT have to lift the motor or trans up to free the front diff.
I have done it now on two different 3rd gens and the front diff comes out super easy without having the headache of lifting the trans or removing a motor mount and lifting the engine.
Why do you need that one and not the one that ECGS uses?I have not found anybody selling Eaton Detroit True Trac part 911A644. I can only find 911A342 for around $540. Still waiting to hear back from ECGS. I just asked them about the parts. I have not asked about the upgrade, yet.

911A343 1.12 inch axle shaft diameter 911A342 | Eaton Detroit Truetrac Differential | Specifications | Eaton911A342 was supposedly superseded by 911A644. I am just trying to find pricing on them. But yes, I would just take whatever ECGS provides with its machining services.

Looks like they were originally listed with the wrong part number. 911A644 is the correct one per eaton's website.Tru Trac LSD in a 3rd Gen (Front Diff)

Going off of others research. I do not much at this point.

I also started a thread when trying to figure out what option I wanted. Of course arb is the way to go. But I couldn’t justify the price for the amount of times I’d actually use it and it’s not forgiving at all once it’s locked it’s locked and it will not disengage if your bound up on a big rock. My brother in law has one in his rig
I have had an Aussie in the rear of my explorer for 7 years now running 35s and have zero issues or wear on the Aussie
No binding, it is a lunchbox locker
The only thing I noticed is at very slow 4lo-4hi speeds steering is heavy but the locker disengages like it should when you need it too
It does always want to pull you straight but I haven’t found it to be an issue on big rocks or fire roads or snow and ice
The faster you are driving when you turn the easier it is for the locker to disengage or ratchet as it should.
That’s why at slow speed you feel the heavy steering because it’s always locked and a little momentum helps the inside wheel spin faster as it normally does.
Awd still prioritizes rwd so it’s perfect for just a rainy day awd mode drive.
I can still hear the locker ratcheting as it should in awd but I have no changes in steering fees back like in 4lo-4hi
I also have a rear elocker and I haven’t had to use it since I got the Aussie installed honestly.
There is only one video of a guy installing a Spartan locker on his 3rd gen PHORunner I think he is called on YouTube
Good video to get an idea of how three install process would go

Thanks for the great reply. I appreciate it. I didn't even realize until today that the rear axle gear is inaccessible. First straight axle I've had that didn't have a cover you could open. Was really looking forward to putting it in the back but it will help in the front too!
I had a 92 explorer sport 2 door manual. That I miss very much. Rig was a beast on 33s.

I would love to hear how you were able to get the front diff out without having to lift the transmission or engine.
Thanks!
Last time I swapped my front diff (done it twice now) I saved a few hours by removing the rear transmission crossmember bolts. Then I used the stock jack to lift the front of the transmission about a half inch. That was all that I needed to roll the front diff out. It is a lot easier this way and saves a bunch of time/ four letter words.

That is really weirdJust received my Truetrac in the mail. Part number 911A342 on the box and 911A644 on the part itself.
You install it and use it yet. ?
Not yet. I am gathering parts. I am going to put a lift in as well as swap out the rear diff with an E-locker that I pulled. I have a few interior painting projects that I have to finish first, but hopefully by then the weather will be a little warmer to work on the 4Runner. Maybe I'll do a small write up about the install.
