TruTrac, in front IFS

So maclean216 you have the trutrac too? Would you happen to remember the part number? Or perhaps where you purchased it?

I'm sorry I forgot to ask if you have the push button 4WD or not...I was reading thru the application guide and there seemed to be two part numbers...one for shift on the fly trucks and one for without...do you have that button on the shifter for 4WD?
 
I think its for manual hubs vs ADD. But I have push button multi-mode transfer case. ***EDIT*** That was the part number off the invoice in 2006. Not sure how accurate it really is. I would call the tech line if you had a question.

This can be overcome with light application of the brake pedal (which is pretty standard for anyone who wheels rocks in an automatic) tricking the LSD into thinking that both wheels still have traction, and sending power to both.

I am aware of that and maybe its my tires, but I am having a problem climbing steep rock ledges.

It might be the weight of the truck...there's been a few steep climbs where my buddy's XJ ran right up it, but me and my friend Mike's 4Runners has trouble.

Try airing down a little more?

Looks like I'm not the only one that has different names on different forums...hahaha! Thanks for the help. It's really confusing is all. I spoke to Summit Racing who only have the 445 part number and insist its the right one, but everybody I know who has this LSD has the 342. When I finally get the current info I'll post up! Thanks!
 
Today I spoke with a very informative individual at Eaton Performance, the makers of the Detroit TruTrac LSD. He says they make two TruTracs for our rigs...part numbers 911A644(which replaced part 911A342) and 911A445.

The 644 is for axle shafts that are 1.3 inches in diameter and 445 is for axles that are 1.1 inches in diameter.

So thats why I had such a hard time finding info on the 342 part number...its been discontinued, or as the man at Eaton said, superceded by 644.

Now, which axle shaft does a 4Runner use? According to Gus at Summit Racing, it uses a 1.1 inch because he says the correct part number is 911A445. Thats a good thing because it is less expensive.

So there you have it!

P.S. I also took care of the user name thing over on YT...hahaha
 
All the 7.5" reverse-cut hi pinion front diffs for the '96-02 4runners (as well as '95-04 Tacomas) are the same. So the info you got from that guy at Easton is incorrect. He must be confusing them with the ealier 7.5" diffs found in 1st and 2nd gen 4runners and the pre-Tacoma pickups. This article mentions that the "stubs" are a different size in the earlier 7.5"s...

Now you just need to take a micrometer to your spare axle.

The guy only said that its one of those two part numbers...based on the diameter of the axle shaft. One must be for the earlier 7.5's and one for the later 7.5's right? He wasn't incorrect, just unable to narrow it completely down. He was reading from a book...in his defense.

You're probably right, but he could have been talking about the 2 different sizes on the earlier 7.5". So you might be dealing with 3 different part #s - 2 different ones for the early 7.5s and another for the 7.5 that we have. I don't know.

Looks like #342 is the right one if I had to guess. This site says the #445 is for a 4 cyl (which I'm guessing means the older 22R years of trucks). Then there's a 3rd that looks like it's for 7.5 IRS....

So if 342 is the proper part and the guy said 644 has taken it's place, then we're saying the axle shafts are 1.3"? I don't have a spare or a micrometer if I did...but I've now added both of those to my list! I looked at a random auto parts place website and the only info they had was the length and 27 spline...

Yes. I run ARBs. Mainly because its the only selectable available for my Land Cruiser 9.5" diffs.
 
Its funny when I asked that I should have looked at that big picture of your solid front axle in your signature! Hahaha...I don't guess you have any interest in trutrac at all...but it does bring up a question...how have your ARB's treated you? Any thoughts on wear and tear, maintenance, etc...
