I think I already got back to you about the manual swap stuff over text, right?

Finally got my 4WD back!! Those that know my build know I haven't had 4WD since before I got rid of the '97. Long story, but- for those that don't know- here we go:
I live in Oregon, and found a complete manual hub swap from a '97 Tacoma posted F/S on here from California. The guy only wanted $300 for everything, and I'm pretty sure I offered him $300 shipped and he said sure [emoji43][emoji1598] The outer hubs alone are $300+ new. He sent me the OEM axles with the boots in great shape and all.
Anyway, the Tacomas didn't have ABS(knuckles had no provision for wheel speed sensors), and I wanted everything functional as it should be, so I was gonna have the Tacoma manual wheel hubs pressed onto the 4Runner knuckles- with new wheel bearings- to keep ABS.
I didn't wanna have to rush one day/weekend to get it all done, and my buddy had just pulled his 2WD front end out for a SAS, so I just took his knuckles.
Meanwhile, I found/bought the '01, swapped everything over, and wasn't gonna sell the '97 without the 4WD, so I put the 2WD knucks on the '01.
Since the '01 has the ABS/VSC/TRAC integrated into the clusterfúck of a brake booster/master, I lost ABS when I ditched that anyway, so no longer had any reason to put the manual hubs on the ABS knucks.
New wheel bearings and seals-

Might as well throw some gussets on while I'm at it-

Made sure all contact points were free of paint-

Also chased the caliper holes. I HATE it when bolts don't thread in smoothly. Yes, I'm so budget I make my own thread chasers. Also in the pic are the most useful parts of the NAPA axles [emoji12] That's how I plugged my diff while rocking no axles.

Back together-

Rotated tires while I was at it-

Might be hard to see, but I tried to get a pic of how I used the brake line bracket with the TC gusset. I just used the ABS line clip hole instead of the original bolt hole. Worked perfectly-

Gotta shorten my front driveline now, and hopefully find some snow in the AM. Wish me luck!

Nice man. Thanks for reminding me I need to get some spindle gussets. That and some rear shock bolt guards. If I tag one more rock with the rear shock mount I'mm pretty sure I can just weld that back together at the same time I do the spindles. lol

What?! Why would I do that?! I drive my 4Runner like a Ferrari, and am on the street 95% of the time it's driving. I like going fast, and take pride in passing Audi's and BMW's around on/off ramps at 70 [emoji12] But really.
Dang, you hang up on the shock mounts quite a bit then?? They're real close to my tires, so that surprises me.

Awesome news for me: I was able to re-use the stock front driveline! [emoji322][emoji1598][emoji1317] The R150 is an inch shorter than the A340, so I didn't think it would collapse enough to fit- but it did! So thankful. It wasn't easy, and actually had to depress the zerk fitting valve to release the pressure in order to fit it in. I fought it for 10-15 minutes before thinking to do that. It was SUPER tight. With the pressure released, it was only snug. That should be just fine; it's not like a live axle that would compress/extend all the time.
For random education and information, the J-shift/R150 front driveline is 26.5" at mid travel, and the A340/AWD front driveline is about 30" at mid-travel.

Took 'er for a spin, and all is well [emoji1598]

Rock gardens man. Rock gardens. With a spotter you can usually avoid taking hits to them but I wheel alone, and when I wheel alone I prefer to be by myself. lol

Making a bolt into a thread chaser comes in clutch when you don't have the thread tap! I've done it several times.

Well, actually the lights came on even when it was all neutered! [emoji23] But it was definitely an awesome feeling to finally have 4WD again. Got to play in the snow a little today, so that was amazing!

My man [emoji41] Really? Hm, well then I guess maybe I should give the sway bar drop a try. I would like the front to be a little more balanced with the rear, that's for sure. Maybe I'll leave the rear in, and see how it feels.
Not too much into rock gardens, but I still like to be able to kinda "go anywhere and everywhere" I want. I'd love to have a streetable rig that can still hold its own in mild rock gardens. I know the right lines and spotters are a must for any "mild" rig.

I hope I didnt come off sounding too harsh, I'm just busting balls. People can do what ever they like to their trucks. I'm not a big fan of the Satoshi when it's all Black or uses a small logo. If they use the huge FJ60 Toyota emblem or use a Silver mesh & color match the trim it can look good. Only on a Black truck it doesn't look like a black hole.. I can see both sides of the coin on the grille mods. The stock grills do look better with certain configurations. Regarding Tyler and his anti-satoshi club, I get the impression that he values being different, and in this case stock is counterculture and thus, different.

When it comes to modding an older vehicle, it's like Nas once said:

No idea's original, there's nothing new under the sun
It's never what you do, but how it's done

And in Tyler's case he seems to do "it" very well, whatever "it" may be.

Thanks guys. I love a showroom-fresh engine bay. <> I just spray it down with Simple Green, let it sit for a minute or so, and pressure wash it with hot water. I use a microfiber to wipe down and dry off as much as possible. This is what it looks like after that-

After that, I use my favorite dressing- Stoner Trim Shine AEROSOL.I I coat everything I can get to. It makes it super easy to keep clean too.

Even a regular hose sprayer and some elbow grease does a good job. The pressure washer helps with the caked on stuff though!
