No, you'll need them. Here's how it works:

Scion HU -> 4 analog channels -> PAC TATO -> 2 analog channels, 2 digital information channels -> JBL Amp/controller

The 2 digital information channels are things like fade, balance, etc. that tell the amp how to split up the 2 analog channels to the ten speakers or whatever.

Ahh, thank you for that explanation, very helpful. So I need to use all those speaker wires coming out of the radio but where are they going to go? The PAC TATO doesn't have any speaker wires for me to connect to. I sound like an idiot right now, I realize!

The unit does turn on and plays CDs and all that. The music is not coming out due to what you mentioned already, no speaker connection. D'oh!!!

The PAC TATO doesn't have any speaker wires for me to connect to.

The RCA connectors are the speaker wires. Each one has two conductors, which will match up to the +/- labelled on the wires coming off of the head unit harness.

Oh man, it's that simple? I can't wait to go home and start hacking up those RCA wires :target: That explains why people should jack up the OEM radio volume all the way to MAX before swapping out radios. The PAC unit has built in dip switches for gain but it's better to work with a maxed out signal intially.

Alright after doing some research on here I could buy the Scion radio upgrade for:

28 pin harness- PT546-00120-CH - $39
Antenna Adapter- PT546-00120-AD - $32

I don't have steering wheel controls and I don't care about Bluetooth calling. Are there any other benefits of going with the Scion radio over just going with a aftermarket Pioneer or Alpine head unit with all harnesses and dash kit for around $160 from Crutchfield? I am trying to figure out why this is a popular upgrade over aftermarket HUs.

You can jump two wires on the harness together to get Bluetooth working without the mic harness and the USB function is easy to modify as well if you like USB connections.

Why get it vs. aftermarket...? I almost didn't until I found the eBay deal due to the costs of getting all the harnesses plus the ridiculous price people want for the head unit alone.
Its a direct fit. It's a nice unit that looks factory if you park outside a lot.
For another $50 for the mic harness I could get handsfree that's near factory without Scosche adapters or cutting wires.

Two more questions that I think are unanswered after reading this thread:
1) Is there any difference between the T1819 and the T10004? Visually they look the same but the part numbers end in 00120 & 00130 respectively.

2) is it true that Bluetooth audio streaming will not work on the T1819 unless you have the mic plugged in? I saw one guy was trying to figure out how to make it work without the $50 mic. I was hoping to not have to buy the mic but still have Bluetooth audio just not hands free calling.

Don't know how I missed this. Can you provide some more info on which two wires you had to connect and how you did it to get the Bluetooth to work?

I didn't come up with it but it works.

Just connect 1 and 6 together on the 8-pin connector.

8pin microphone connector
1 -> TSW-, connect to ground (6) to tell the radio that there is a mic / enable Bluetooth
2 -> MIC+
3 -> MCVD (+5V output to power the mic amplifier)
4 -> not used
5 -> MIC-
6 -> audio shield (ground) for pin 2+5
7 -> not used
8 -> not used

Yeah..I watched for a month or 3 since I wasn't in a hurry. Actually ended up spending $51 total with shipping...so I was a little off in my first post after checking my eBay page.
Plug and play other than the Bluetooth mod.
I did not get the antenna converters but haven't noticed a major need with being in a major metro area.

Deals are out there.

Only go to 3/4 max volume if you have the JBL. PAC states this on their site for the TATO interface.

I get crappy FM reception when I hit the mountains, Will need to order the antenna adapters.

As mentioned, deals are out there. I was able to find a T1819 on craigslist with the harnesses for $65. Not sure why the ones on ebay are so expensive and dont even come with the cables. I will also be taking pictures of the Bluetooth mod so we can get some good instructions on here.

Got my T1819 installed today. It was extremely easy after reading this thread and finding a radio that already had the harnesses. Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this thread and njsanna in particular for helping me out with the Bluetooth mod.

As promised, here are the details of the Bluetooth mod:
Here is the T1819 with the harnesses already on it as I bought it.

The connector you need to modify to enable Bluetooth is the one on the far right. I cut open the white wire that is outside of the grouping, and also the black shrink wrap on the group of wires. I did this very carefully as to not damage any wires. The black group of wires is actually shielded by the ground wire that you will connect to.

Next I took a spare wire I had and wrapped it around the white wire and the wire shield. Using an extra wire is probably not necessary, just making the white wire contact the shielding would also work.

Final step is just to tape it up with electrical tape. Bluetooth worked great first time I powered up the radio and paired my iphone without any problems.
