Ultimate Scion Headunit (stereo) thread

Tim,

I had the same USB cable and spliced on a male USB connector on to the end. Next time I would try one of these USB cables on eBay first before modifying the Toyota cable:

For Toyota Camry RAV4 Corolla Lexus Car AUX USB MP3 Audio Input Cable Adapter | eBay

Panel mount USB connector, connect your modified or eBay cable to this (there is a pic in the thread of where I installed this):

All,

the $5 EBay USB cable won't work on my Scion PT546-00140 head unit, it just put out crackled and popping sounds for the music, so don't waste your time and money on this POS cable. I just have to settled for the Bluetooth connection for music for now, the PT546-00140 HU will connect to your phone for music without the PT546-74120-MC (microphone) cable. And you can make phone call too but the person won't be able to hear what you are saying without the microphone.

Good to know Tim, so modifying the Toyota cable is the way to go. When I did mine, I made sure the shielding went the entire length of the cable.

I just changed the Vehicle Setting to Xb and it sounds so much better than FRS.
Now make me wondering what is everyone's vehicle setting at?

Just purchased a 546-00160 head unit. Getting pretty hyped for the install. Thanks for all of those that posted their experiences and knowledge. With out that there is no way I would attempt to install this. Oh its going into a 05 SE with JBL. Stay tuned for questions - wish me luck!

Picked up a PT546-00160 off Ebay and install was a snap with the order list provided here. Now that I have this head unit, I'm itching to replace the speakers and add some sound dampening.

Am I correct to assume that add an external amp can not be added to this head unit (I have a non-JBL/SR5)?

I am planning on replacing my e7009 w jbl with one of those t10015 units and replace the amp at the same time with a soundstream nano 5 channel amp. Only like $150 for the amp and has plenty of power

Tacoma radio

I have been searching for this and haven't found an answer. Will a 2015 Tacoma radio work in the 4th generation? I currently have a T1819 with the toyota cables and mic. I was thinking about buying an Entune so I could keep my bluetooth and add a back up camera. The connections look the same as what I have. Thanks!

Erik

Which gens?

I just picked up a 1998 Limited and the factory unit lacks bluetooth and also rejects CDs, so I'm looking to upgrade the HU. In all this discussion of the Scion T1819, I only see 4th gen years listed - no clear answer on if this swap will work in a 3rd gen. Anyone know?

Thanks

How do I change car type in a T1819?

Just finished a successful retrofit of a T1819 in my 3rd gen 4r. Now I want to tweak the sound and I'd like to know how do I change the car type in the head unit's menu?

Also, if anyone's looking for one, I have a USB adapter I'm not using
(part #PT546-00120-US) for $40 shipped.

First off, thanks to Simonw for all the information on the pt546-00160 install. I just found one in a junk yard for $125 to install in my non-JBL 2004 4Runner.

I have ordered all the parts listed in this thread:
 • 28 pin harness- PT546-00120-CH - $28.72
 • Antenna Adapter- PT546-00120-AD - $21.52
 • Bluetooth PT546-74120-MC - $51.24
 • USB- PT546-00120-US - $54.30

I ordered them all from Camelback Toyota which was cheaper than Amazon and a few other dealers I cross-checked.

I still want to add a backup camera to it, which I believe Simonw mentioned being this one: Rear Backup Camera Kit for Toyota/Scion/Subaru Vehicles ( 2012, 2013, 2014) | eBay

I plan to install everything myself, but will have a shop install the backup camera since that's something that would take me too much time.

One question: is the backlighting on the T10071 orange? I'm hoping it will match the rest of the interior...

Sounds you have everything coming together :-) You will need a 6v camera and the 24pin harness for the PT546-00160 7" 2016 radio, looks like the camera at the link you posted is the 16pin one for the 00140 radio (-2015).

The colour of the back lighting on the PT546-00160 is a light white-ish colour, not orange like the rest of the dash lights. I think it looks nice as it is very subtle, glad it is not orange to be honest.

If you modify your grey USB cable to add on a regular USB end, the wires are soldered as follows:

USB: solder the red to red, black to black, puple to white, green to brown

Use a good quality USB cable as a donor that has the metal shielding inside, so you don't get noise on your USB input from the car.

This is what the back lighting looks like, fresh :-)

Simonw - you're awesome! That image makes me excited to receive my T10071!

Do you know where I could find the 6v camera and 24 pin harness for the T10071?

Anyone try the T1818 (TC Head Unit)?

So I've tried searching and basically read through this entire thread and havent found any mention of anyone
trying the T1818 (PT546-00121), only the installs of the T1819.

The T1818 is from the TC and has basically the same connections on the back as the T1819 but adds a touch
screen which I'm looking for. It can be found cheap and uses all the same harnesses as previously discussed
with the T1818.

Went ahead and pulled the trigger on an eBay deal hoping everything is as straight forward as what I've seen
on the T1819. Currently waiting it's arrival.

Here is the T1818 front and back. Notice the circled port which differs from the T1819...wondering what it
is for. Hmmm? Navigation hookup maybe?

The included harnesses:

As compared the T1819

I wanted RCA outs and the T1818 has 3 sets; sub out, front ch, and rear ch compared to what looks like one
set on the T1819.

So does anyone forsee any complications as compared to their T1819 install? Just trying to be prepared for
when it arrives. In addition to the included harnesses I ordered the radio antenna adapter plug/Y harness as
well as the bluetooth mic.

Would like to add a back-up camera at some point, but not sure if possible with this unit - please chime in if
you have any info pertaining to this. Would also like to add the right side bluetooth steering controls, also
not sure compatibility here.

FWIW I have non-JBL vehicle 2008

Seeing alot of people modding this cable because a traditional USB doesn't just connect/fit properly ....but what cable (part #) actually is supposed to plug in here? Would rather find the appropriate cable instead of risking screwing it up.

T1818

If anyone is curious the T1818 (PT546-00121,from Scion TC) was perfect fit as well. Fully functioning touch screen, Bluetooth streaming and phone. Steering controls and factory AUX working also.

Scored mine with all needed harnesses for $150 on ebay. Just needed BT mic, and antenna adapter plug. Ordered a harness that should allow backup camera as well...will update.

I see no room for a backup cam [emoji13]
