Under The Bridge and Other Excursions

As both my children are now in college and 20 years of going to endless practices, games and tournaments are now winding down, my wife and I are starting to get out and enjoy a little time to ourselves. It will be too cold to ride my mountain bike much until March so we are going out to our local trails and hiking on the weekends. Any guesses on where we are in this pic? Hint: BASE jumpers come here every year and it goes over world class whitewater. My truck is at a trailhead to an abandoned mine. Anyway, since I won't have a build thread I decided to start a thread where I will periodically post pics of the 4Runner in some scenic places where we have been. Enjoy!

New River Gorge here in WV! Nice ride, hope you had a great time!

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner!

Did the extra suspension travel from KDSS help you get there? :behindsofa:

Haha I should have taken pictures of the bridges (frozen) and roads I had to cross to get there though. One of these days I will do a nice write up on KDSS vs. Traditional suspension but not today lol.

On a side note down next to the river we spotted an old beat up Subaru with Kayak racks parked in a dirt lot. Now it's 33 degrees and overcast mind you and we hiked down through the rocks to get to the last big rapid before the take out spots. As we were getting ready to hike back out we noticed three kayaks getting ready to enter the rapids. They had top of the line cold weather gear on and they went through the rapid like it was just a puddle or something. By the time we got back up to the top they were carrying their gear to that Subaru. One of their Kayaks with their gear cost more than their Subaru lol. Living the dream!

BTW I went to the Antman School of Fine Art Photography (ASFAP) so I can guarantee you there will be no good pictures in this thread, only good times!

1engineer, ASFAP tuition is still due.:hungry:

You only took 1 picture the entire time? C'mon!

PS- Think you have your new avatar pic at least.

Naw Antman, I took lots of pics. The sad part is this is the BEST one I took!
Tuition payment is being withheld until pcture taking skills improve - which means probably never.

@1E. Nice thread, subscribed. Ah tuition, remember it well. 2 sons through Iowa State debt-free. Whew!

The wifey will retire early pretty soon. I'm planning two long (driving) National Park loop trips: 1 encompassing SW Canada and W & SW USA, the other to New England / Nova Scotia / PEI etc.

@Hackman. Help 1E with a new avatar pic, eh?

Know where you're going specifically yet? I have a little bit of knowledge of the area...

Tomorrow I leave for 10 days in Costa Rica. :p :thumb3:

No, not yet, just a plan to make a plan. Thank you, I'll try to remember the offer.

Sorry for the jack 1E. You and Hackman keep CTH under control y'hear?

That'll be easy. Skiing in VT next weekend. Not a peep outta me.

Maybe rescue a 5th gen or two along the way.

Great, one more acronym I have to remember. Speaking of acronyms...BTW, FWIW IMO CTH loves 1e's KDSS TE so much he has secret ASFAP pics.

Another Trip

As I told you in my first post, this thread is not as much about the mods as about what we do and where we go with the 4Runner. We went down to both North and South Carolina this past weekend to visit our daughter in school and I took my singlespeed 29'er with me. I rode in both states on Saturday and Sunday. The first pic is how much room you have with a 29'er XL frame in the back of a 4Runner with the sliding tray. The other pics are out on the trail. Any guesses as which trail? As always, all photo quality goes to my mentor Antman. Without his expert tutelage my thumb is all we would see. Enjoy!

Jealouse

My daughter is 2.5 and I have a son on the way, so it will be a long time before I get to start a thread like this! For now I will live through you...so keep the posts coming! Where were these most recent mountain bike trail pics taken? Looks like a blast!
