Yeah they were used. That makes sense then as to why they are so easy to remove and install.

That was my original plan actually, some camping around OBX for spring break, but I looked at the weather for my spring break (week of March 13) and it looks like it would still be a little cool out there for "beach" weather. Not that Moab will be any warmer, and it's 10 hours farther, but we'll see. They're still just ideas I'm pondering.

Ah ours is the week before. With all the strange weather going, you never know what kind of weather we will be dealt though. If Moab doesn't happen for you, I could still likely escape to meet up in the Outer Banks and show you around some, even if it only is a day trip for me.

Didn't get anything done on the truck this weekend, but last weekend was productive. I got my transfer case output shaft seal replaced again. When I replaced it the first time I didn't thoroughly clean the shiny silver part of the shaft. I'm not sure what I was thinking, but I had myself convinced that it didn't touch the seal. That is wrong, and I'm sure what caused it to start leaking again so shortly after. I polished it up with some super fine steel wool so hopefully I don't have to see that seal again for awhile.

I also changed my rear diff fluid since it was about that time again. Preventative maintenance is a wonderful thing.

Some more exciting things that I did, FINALLY got my shrockworks gas tank skid to fully clear the drive shaft. I went at it with the angle grinder this time...

I also got sick of looking at my dirty stained door panel arm rests so I took a page out of [MENTION=109102]MattJakobs[/MENTION] build thread. I went and got a quote to have them reupholstered, and he told me $160 to do it in a tan vinyl!!! Yeah right. I went and bought a yard of tan vinyl at a fabric store and some 1/4" staples for the staple gun. I did it myself for $8 and I think it came out pretty good.

I figured it was something like that, still kinda fun to see one in a different country though. Didn't see a single one the two and a half weeks I spent in Europe a couple years ago.

The guy I sold my stock wheels and tires to claimed to buy 4Runners, ship them to Africa, and sell them there.

I wouldn't doubt him at all. Believe when I say it's easy money. :wink2: They are most popular in parts of Africa that have Ebola outbreaks.

In Europe you are most likely to see them in Germany. Americans stationed in Germany would bring them there. I've seen a few on german classifieds sites. Otherwise there's a bunch of 99-00's given to Kosovo by the UN. They occasionally find their way out of Eastern Europe.

I went with a cheap set off of Amazon. So far so good. One of them got moisture in it fairly quickly after I bought it, but recently the moisture has been gone. Not sure why or if it will be back but they've been working fine. Here's a link to the ones I'm running.

I want to add some lights to the sides, but I'm not sure if it might look funny. I prewired mine so I already have wires run up there, I'd just need to hook up a switch. I"ll be looking to see how yours looks with them on the side if you do them.

Knocking out lots of little things that have been bugging me. Today I did the steering column fix with a roll pin. WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!!

This took all the slop out of my steering, no more dead spot right in the middle where it is unresponsive and it took the clunking/rattle noise that I would get driving over rough sections of road. Can't wait to get it out on a dirt road and feel the difference.

My only regret is not doing this when I first got the truck. Total time was just under 2 hours from grabbing the screwdriver to having all the tools up. I spent probably 20 minutes messing with the stupid clamshell over the steering column because it wouldn't let go and I didn't want to break it. I also ate a bowl of cereal after disconnecting the battery just to make sure there was nothing residual left in the system before I unplugged the airbag.

The roll pin I used was 3/16" and 1.5" long. For the drilling I started with a brand new 11/64" bit and drilled all the way through. Then went through with the 3/16" bit, also brand new. Then just pound the pin in, I used my roll pin punches, and reassemble. For reassembly I recommend connecting the lower joint that comes from the rack first as this will help keep everything in place as you try and line up the two upper allen bolts.

Also to make sure I got the column into the right position on the joint from the rack I marked not only the rotation of it, but also how far in it was. The rotation can't really adjust though because it is keyed.

As for the safety feature being "disabled" I'm not worried about it. The roll pin would have to be stronger than all the bolts holding the steering column in and the air bag should also be keeping you away from the steering wheel. I never intend to find out though...

Did you try using carpet or upholstery cleaner on the armrests? I use the ones that foam up. Let it sit for a while & then use a soft brush to get the stains out. Now you'll have do all of the armrests & door panels to match but it looks good. :jump:

Make sure you don't forget this step. It's crucial. For enhanced results and I recommend Raisin Bran Crunch.

There was no getting those stains out of the driver side. The driver side was really the only one that was bad. The dirt had been mashed into the upholstery several times over and kinda worn the fabric down. I don't mind the tan not matching, I thought about trying to do the door panel right behind the armrest, but that's too complicated for me (AKA I can't use the staple gun there). There's like 413 different colors of tan inside my truck from the factory, so another one doesn't look out of place at all.

That foaming cleaner works wonders on carpet and seats though. I used it there to get some stains out from the PO.
