Upper Control Arms - Brands

This is another option
Upper Control Arms, Pro-Series - Toyota

There are two types of Icon UCA. the billet (expensive and only for looks) or the tubular ($600ish) which are similar to the Total Chaos, but the uniball is a different material (I believe).

Edit: BTW, the ones you have labeled as Toytec are actually the Total Chaos.

not quite 100% true - the billet does have a bit more adjust-ability than the tubular ones from Icon. whether or not it is enough to justify the price difference is up to the user.

SPC UCA's

I spoke to that amazon vendor and he has a good price to offer us if we buy the SPC's thru him. If you want his contact please PM me and I'll send you the info.

I've been looking hard for the SPC 25480 at a discount, but the price is well controlled at $485.91, take it or leave it. Has anyone seen the price lower recently?

I put some boxed Dirt King (heim) UCAs on my 4Runner. I've been extremely happy with them so far. I think the price was 670ish.

Bumping this thread up to ask a few questions. I have recently decided to go with a larger lift (3") and will require UCA's. I found these SPC on a site called Sparktec Motors. Is this missing anything? Are they the same SPC control arms that everyone else offers?

SPC Performance 4RUNNER & FJ UCA (RH) - Part Number: 25482 - Sparktec Motorsports - Products

Do some research on this forum... yes those are VERY affordable but I believe they are sold under a few different names and are garbage upper control arms with many issues reported on this forum about them breaking under even just regular driving conditions.

I thought it was Light Racing that everyone was having issues with?

Multiple people in this thread have said SPC works well for them when i skimmed thru it.
Jetboy i realized that, but still that's a decent deal. I wish that $380 shipped bargain was still going on lol.

JBA UCA's with OME BP-51 suspension

I added the JBA UCAs to my build. They are as advertised with no noise and great articulation, fit and finish are good and the alignment is spot on with a 3-inch lift. Marlin (Owner) has been building UCA's for 30+ years in the jeep community and began about 5-6 years ago for Toyota. This is from memory when I researched the product so if I am off a little please don't be too put off. They are priced fair ($450 range) and can be greased via zerk and ball joint replaced if it ever wears out. What is not to love.

Nice! I may go this route instead. Can you link where you bought them or list the vendor here? Thanks again.

Just for the sake of keeping info together in one thread. I've run 4 different UCA sets. Stock, EBAY uniball (broke), Tuff Country (Geometry worse than OEM), and JBA (great quality - rubs with stock wheel offset on the arm).

http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-g...nt-uca-review-updated-w-specs-vs-jba-oem.html

All 3 aftermarket arms could use some improvement.

If the guys at Tuff Country were willing even entertain the idea that their jig is wrong, they'd have a great product based on cost and simple design for most people. The arms are okay. The geometry is just wrong.

The EBAY arms had the best overall strength, but they hardware is garbage and dangerous.

The JBA arms are well built and have high quality hardware. The only issue there is rubbing on the inside of the tire with OEM wheels. To be clear - JBA knows and fully discloses that their arms have a minimum backspacing to fit. It wasn't a surprise. It's essentially cut to fit for me with them. And it's a bummer because there's plenty of room with a slight redesign of the arm to fit. Also, to fit the larger tire sizes you basically have to keep OEM wheel backspacing. So trimming the arms is essentially a must. I have a pretty complete fab shop, so it's no big deal to me to grind out some clearance, but it's something that could be fixed in the design. And then I ruin the pretty red powdercoat. Tires are 275/60/20's on stock Limited 20" wheels.

So... all the budget options I've used have some sort of issue.

ICON Tubular UCA w/Delta Joint

These look good to me. I believe it's basically a sealed ball joint with a zerk fitting for lubrication. It won't have the typical Uniball joint squeak but with the rotation/articulation to match one. This may be similar to the JBA UCA, with the addition of a metal enclosure on the joint. I ordered this one for my Stage 7 Tubular ICON lift. I expect to get it in a few weeks.

If you follow hamburglar's link this is part of what it says:
These upper control arms feature ICON's patent pending Delta Joint. The Delta Joint is a heavy duty high angle ball joint that combines the durability of a ball joint with the performance characteristics of a traditional uniball. While the industry standard uniball does a great job of allowing the control arms of a vehicle to articulate with little bind, they do have an inherent weakness that leaves more to be desired when used in a daily driven application - exposure to the elements. The Delta Joint features a zinc plated housing providing the first layer of corrosion resistance, while a tough grease seal keeps potentially harmful elements out of the inner workings of the joint. Metal on metal construction and a greasable design increase the longevity of the Delta Joint while at the same time allowing for noise-free operation. What makes the Delta Joint unique is that it brings the best of both worlds to ICON upper control arms with features that make it more robust than a uniball, and at the same time capable of greater angularity than a typical ball joint.

Dobinsons

I see no mention of Dobinsons A arms. Anybody have experienced with ? Looks like they are using OEM bushing and ball joint, which could be an indication as been quiet.
Thank you.
