Thanks! I just saw your 4link/Gas tank post. Good choice. I don't think I saved any time or money by working around the stock geometry. Though, having the ORI's on all 4 corners substantially improved the ride, and working with stock geometry was the path of least resistance. I can't wait to see what you do!

These are my notes I've been working from. I try to visualize everything in advance, disassembly, parts, reassembly, time, etc. Always changes, but I like having a plan.

I worked for HealthSouth a long time ago, but "borrowed" lots of office supplies before I left. Still using their notepads 10yrs later :wink2:

I snuck out for a little bit to try and find something to flex on. I live in the city, so it was challenging.

I found a loading ramp, but wasn't big enough:

Still lots of articulation left

Half way up an embankment:

not even close

Still not full articulation, but I found a rock in the overflow parking of the Georgia Dome

That's about as good it will get within the confines of the city. Windrock will provide more than enough opportunity to max it out. Can't wait! :frog:

I just returned from GSMTR '14 at Windrock Park in Tennessee. I had a great time and Windrock is an amazing park. 4 days of wheeling and I barely covered 1/3 of the park. It is over 72000 acres. Despite a good bit of rain, the trails held up very well. Lots of great rigs old and new, and lots of great people including [MENTION=87436]ugamurph[/MENTION], [MENTION=71939]jason in tn[/MENTION], [MENTION=101555]nitrag[/MENTION], and [MENTION=68380]AZrunner11[/MENTION]

Nice and clean upon arrival

but it wouldn't stay that way for long.

Windrock is one of the few local parks in which I actually need the Rotopax setup. Trail runs often take 6-8hrs, if everything goes well. If anybody breaks, or you end up on a black diamond trail, it could take a lot longer.

2 Fuel, 1 water, 1 storage/medical
The fuel and water typically stayed at camp. The closest town is not that far, but it would suck to have to air up and head into town for fuel.

Tough getting pics of your own rig while wheeling. I'm sure some will surface in the coming days.

This would've been a better video, though it is a cool sequence of pics. Slow walk over a rutted out section at the crest of a trail. Used every inch of suspension travel on all 4 corners.

I enjoyed wheeling with you at GSMTR. You've got an amazing rig with some amazing fab work. I don't know about "smooth, experienced" but I have fun seeing what my little (next to your's) 4Runner can do. We put them through the paces this week for sure.

I've probably got a video of that gulley crossing somewhere. I'll post it here when I get it on youtube.

Can't wait until next year. Maybe we can meet up around Chattanooga some time and run Coppinger Cove.

Great pictures from Windrock, I have been there twice, and I still haven't seen 1/4 of the park.

It truly is a great place, almost like another world. Parts of the forest are so dense, it can be almost dark at 3 in the afternoon!

Thanks Casey! Lets try and coordinate our trips one of these days. I'm headed there again this weekend Thurs-Sun. I love that place. I still have lots of trails on my list for that park. I am keeping a notebook on this park since it is so vast. I think Trail 16 is next on my list.
I guess Gulches would be the easiest meet for both of us? I am for sure headed there in October, though could also plan another trip.
I'll keep you posted on some of my trips. I have Choccolocco in AL, and Harlan in KY planned as well.

I will throw in another update, though this mod actually happened about 6 months ago, before the SAS. I got so wrapped up in the swap I never got around to posting these pics.
Previously, I was using this cb

I did a stealth mod in the center console.
It was okay, but it lacked in quality, power, and features.

I really wanted a full size CB with modern features, digital etc. However, there just isn't very many good location options for a full size, full feature CB. I think I considered every option. Ultimately, I looked in my glove box and I found the factory handbook, a 10w fuse, a gum wrapper, and my insurance card. That is some valuable dash space. All those things can fit in the center console. I would much rather have 1/2 the dash back, than have gum wrapper storage.

So it began. I picked up this CB:

I made a poster board template of my glovebox and then cut it out in 16ga.
Plus a few bends in my press

Added a shelf for a solid mount:

Self etching primer, then interior color matched paint:

A buddy of mine makes custom interiors for boats on Lake Lanier, and had a piece of wood grain laminate that was a pretty close match

I cut out this piece and gave back the rest

He swears there is an even better match so I will keep checking back with him.

Using all the factory mounting points, it bolts right in:

I will get a better one, as well as a night time pic. The digital CB display allows you to customize the color to match the dash. Which in my case, is blue. Looks trick at night.
There is no loss of leg room for a passenger since the CB sits recessed in the dash. In fact, there may even be more leg room without the glove box.

My set up now will do about 55 miles on a good day with the right conditions. I have a bigger one that will go much farther. I'm going to pull that box and do some measuring to see if it will fit that way. I think if it hangs out a little it will still be ok. Great work on the 4Runner man.

Thanks Blue. I sent you PM with a few more details and the depth of my CB. CB is 7.5" and that is about the max for recessed or flush fit.

Great park for just about anything outdoors. I met lots of the locals at GSMTR. The Appalachian Cruisers. Great group of guys with mostly land cruisers. Can't wait to get back.
