URD Spec-U Exhaust

Nice! I had them do my exhaust manifold on my evo back in the day. They do quality work. Only problem I had is they called me and said it was ready to pick up... Drove my ass there from Everett and they said to come back the next day... :censored:

I had them do my TRD headers for my 2000 sport edition. They did a great job.

There is a member on the FJ forum saying that because this y pipe runs closer to the transfer case it burnt up the grease in the first thousand miles or so. My ceramic coated y pipe runs hundreds of degrees cooler than stock. I'm sure it won't be a problem but it's something to keep an eye on.
 
It's no where near the aftermarket TCase skid as its higher than the bottom of the frame. It's the same height as the passenger side exhaust leg on the factory Y pipe. I bought mine for the extra clearance and I am surprised at how much it added. In the future I will modify my TCase skid to sit higher since now it hangs low for no real reason.

Dyno is up. I was running late today so there was no cool down time prior to this run. Went straight onto the Dyno after driving 40 miles hard in 93 degree weather.

They sent these over which includes one of the baseline runs. I will try get them to superimpose the original runs posted in this thread. WOT starts way too late on the baseline. But at least it's something you guys have to compare for the time being.

Am I reading this right?
At 4000rpm you get an extra ~50hp and ~50ft/lbs?!

I wish! The tech ran the truck at wide open throttle on the baseline run after 4200 rpm. It's not ideal and you should ignore everything before that point. I don't know why they chose that run as the baseline but they were very busy and that's what they sent over, (probably picked the first baseline run they had on file and didn't look through the rest). I will get them to superimpose the runs I posted earlier in this thread.

No too shabby. About a 10-15 gain in tq in most places. Using generally accepted drivetrain loss... that would be around 290hp at the flywheel.

I will post a more accurate comparison for you folks once they send it over. Attached to this post is the original baseline I posted a few pages back. Just looking at specific points under 4000 rpm and comparing them with the run I just posted, you can see there is some gain down low as well.

Not exactly 100% accurate but it gives an idea of the gains vs stock. Pretty decent gains, I'm impressed.

Thanks for superimposing the graphs. This is good for a rough eyeball but as you can see the rpm lines don't quite line up. It is appreciated though. Hopefully they will get back to me on Monday. I asked them to drop the cursor once below 4k rpm, once mid curve and once at the top so we can get a better idea of the difference.

The dyno charts are for the SpecU and Y pipe together, correct? What about headers, are you stock? If so, what's your assumption on how much the headers will add?

I have been considering doing the headers and Y pipe but leaving the rest stock. I want to keep it as quiet as possible.

Yes, the truck is stock other than the spec-u exhaust system which includes the equal length y pipe. No headers or intake yet. The 1GR responds very well to bolt on mods. There are a number of tacos that did the Doug Thorley and JBA long tube headers and found a significant amount of horsepower up top but at the expense of torque down low... The beauty of the spec-u equal length headers is that it was designed to maintain and increase torque throughout the curve. The DVVTI engine responds very similarly to bolt ons. I would expect to add a good 22 rwhp and 34 rwtq with a set of headers. Take a look at the dynos in the following link.

Naturally Aspirated Horsepower & Supporting Mods - XR-Underground

Some of these guys are hitting 290+ Wheel torque with bolt ons and a tune, 270+ with no tune. Keep in mind the stock Tacoma puts out 240hp and 260tq at the crank vs our 270hp and 278tq at the crank for DVVTI.

Gadget posted a Dyno of the spec-u headers on a Tacoma, link below. That is where I'm getting the 22 rwhp and 34 rwtq numbers from. I think that Dyno will answer your question. I'm waiting for him to develop headers with air injection. I may throw on a set of JBA's in the meantime.

From the pics on the URD it look like the stand alone y-pipe and the y-pipe with the full URD exhaust take slightly different paths. Do you have a pic of it from below? Maybe go for an "alignment check" and take a pic with it up on the rack?

LOL... Got tired of waiting for the supercharger and traded in the 4Runner. Deleted all attachments out of respect for the new owner.
