URGENT: Looking for a good Write-Up/DIY with pictures to change Rack and Pinion Unit!

I think you misunderstood which line I am talking about. The nut you rounded off is the return line and is the one with the short piece of hard line that you want to preserve. You don't need to cut the return line because you can disconnect the flex portion from the hard line/nut. I don't know if the new return line will include the short bit of hard line and the nut. I hope it does, but I couldn't verify that the oreilleys one did. I just don't want you to cut the return line in case you need it.

Gates is a fine company. They have been an OES to the auto industry for ages. I have no doubt in their product, I am just trying to help you with the fitment and install.

I wouldn't worry about the pump if it is working fine. The biggest lesson I have had to learn is if it ain't broke, don't fix it. The pump is easy to access and do later anyway, so there isn't much value in refreshing it now.

I found the return tube on Ebay for $24 Total... I guess I'll buy that. The ebay Dealer (its genuine OEM) says it is a fit for both 4runners and Tacomas... when I search it on camelback, they don't list it for a 4runner and only list it for a 2wd Tacoma????? I would think it would be the same wouldn't it??? don't 4wd and 2wd Tacomas and 4runners all use the same rack???

I don't want to needlessly order it, but if I need it, I want to get it ordered ASAP so it will be here Friday with the rest.

according the Camelback, both 4wd and 2wd 4runners and Tacomas use the same steering rack, part number 44250-35042, so I see no reason why this return tube fitting would be different.

I ordered the piece.. fingers crossed it works... I just hate to put some stripped out piece back on there, especially if everything else is new....

Yeah, that's the part. I know it'd suck to have to reuse it since it is so mangled, but I couldn't really find it anywhere here. Though to be fair, I needed to find it locally as I had no leeway on downtime, and it was sunday night so the dealerships were closed. You could always clean it up with a dremel or grinder and just size it down a MM or so. Otherwise if you have a few days, you should be able to get it from a dealer even if they don't have it in stock.

I don't really know anything about compatibility, but I think that any 4runner or taco with the 3.4L engine should have this same hose.
