VA4Runner09 Long and Distinguished Build Thread

So its been a long day to say the least. Definitely a lot more knowledgeable then where I was last night. Needless to say Total Chaos has some work they need to do for their mid travel 'kit' when using kings with the adjusters on a 4Runner. The spec's that king has from them are incorrect for a 4runner but will work with a Tacoma or FJ. I ended up having to switch the passenger with the driver and vice versa. Then manipulate the fitting at the shock for the resi and rotate it. This helped a lot with gaining clearance around the shock and upper control arm.
The next thing I will need to do is fab up a bracket that can span between the frame and cross member so I can weld the rest mounts to that. Very very frustrating that this is supposed to be a kit...

The other thing that is different on the Kings for the TC kit is you end up with about a 2" larger Resi then the stock OEM Kings. Which = even more of a PIA.

Good news is that I won't be needing to send these back to King. So hopefully have it up and running by next week. Hard to get my buddies that have the welder to keep making these trips to me.

Will try to update with some better photos tomorrow and this weekend. Thanks for all the help guys! Definitely a fickle little guy.

Well I must say this has been a huge huge undertaking. Can't thank tellurunner and Grateful4Runner for all the help and the garage for 1.5 months. Still a few hiccups to sort through. Some reason the TC uppers had thermal cracking in the powdercoat so TC is sending me some new ones to replace (just my luck this happens but Total Chaos is a great company and stands behind their product). The weld for one my limiting straps popped off when setting the height for this (really difficult to get a gun in there so might be relocating this in the coming weeks. Other than that extremely excited to see how it does on the trail. Road manners have been pretty amazing considering no sway bars on her.
As far as the resi mount, we ended up using some flat stock to span between the frame and cross member (of course I forgot to take photos) and then welded the resi mounts to that. Turned out pretty great in my opinion.
Definitely some fine tuning left to do but at least she is out of the garage now!

So a little update: Finally got to go with a bunch of Toyota guys up on a trail and test her out a few weekends back. DAmn! All I can see is it rides like butter. Just dropped her off with Insain Fabrication last week and getting the bumper all fab'd up! Stupid excited for this final touch! Also looking at the Matte Bronze Stealth 6 Rims, not too psyched running a 2" spacer (currently) in the rear to even the track width out. Figure I can go up a size in tires too to finish off this massive build. 285/75/17 Nitto Ridge Grappler. Should be all sorted here by the end of the month!!

Here are a few Teaser photos for ya from this past weekend:

Are you saying the SCS wheels would keep you from running the rear 2" spacer to compensate for the +2" long travel in the front?

This is one seriously bad a** looking 4Runner! A little surprised I haven't noticed you around Denver, I'll have to keep an eye out! Shoot me a PM sometime if you're looking for someone to head up to the hills with.

Correct, would only need to run 1.25" to even out the stance and be able to nuke the .75" spacer in the front. So if you know anyone looking for a 2" + .75" spacer let me know :)

Sure came together, looks super nice. Excited to see the 285/75's on there. I'm looking at the same tire in that size or 295's.

If you're looking at SCS Stealth 6 wheels, I'm just gunna put this here. This guys is running +2" LT as well with 1.25" rear spacers. Just have to imagine the matte dark bronze :biggrin2:

Well the wheels arrive Tuesday!! Guess I need to pull the trigger on the tires here soon!! Needless to say my rims and tires are for sale!! Really looking forward to seeing her all put together!! Getting Baja lights for the rear bumper (back up lights and work light) and baja lights to replace those awful PIAA's. Man those things weren't what I was hoping for them to be.

Yea man! I will try to let you know when we head up! This beast is normally a weekend warrior so that is probably why you haven't seen me. Trying to plan a trip at the end of this month or middle of next. Depends on timing with the rear bumper build.

Literally counting down the days till I get the truck back from Insain Fab! Got the rims and tires last week. Here is a teaser of what the rims and tires look like. Hoping I get her back by the end of this week. So curious to how the rear bumper is going to come out!

Picking up the truck in 3 days!! Can't wait to see this transformation! Think the next mod is HAM radio. Anyone have any good suggestions?? And yes I know you need to take a class. Thanks!

Hoping to get her in the next 4-5 hours! Time has slowed to a snails pace! Will try to get some quick photos up later tonight.

Looks very similar to my 06 with the bumper and rack, but the similarities stop there. Great looking truck, and wondering how your mileage changed after the regearing? As for the bronze wheels I love them....but i'm a little bias as I did bronze on my 8 hole fj wheels like you originally had. Love your build man and excited to see this bumper!

Sorry Guys! Insain still has the truck to my dismay :( Going to pick it up tomorrow at lunch. Will try and get some quick iPhone pics up tomorrow afternoon. He had some issues with the powdercoated getting it back to him in time. Trust me I want to see this thing so bad. Haven't even gotten any teaser photos !!

I am in the process of ordering a set of Kings OEM 2.5 suspension. I'm replacing the OW 2.5 setup and would like to keep the same amount of lift/travel. Should I get the 8" or the 10" extended travel in the rear? I have ordered the Toytec Superflex coils for the rear. Why did you go with the MetalTech coils?

I see you had some fun with the front remote resi's. Was it due to your particular setup? What length line should I request for the front remote resi's? I only have LR UCA's and don't intend to lift it higher than 3".

Guessing no updates :fishing:

Can't wait to see this bad boy!
