VA4Runner09 Long and Distinguished Build Thread

Lots of good questions! Ordering King shocks is not for the faint of heart thats for sure! As you can tell I went with the TC mid travel kit. TC works directly with King to get the shock valved a certain way, the shock to be a certain length, and all the fittings to work for the resi mounts. I also went with adjustable resi's. Some people naysay them but I love them. I can customize the ride jsut the way I want them. Yes you set it and forget it, but you get the exact ride you want that is specific to your rig and your style of driving. Worth it to me! I went with the 700lb coils in the front and man does it make a difference. You get alot of lift and it handles all the crap I have on the front. So, as far as 8 or 10" I'm not sure. I think @LTSDC has done the 10" in the rear but had to do some finaggling to get that to work. It sounds more like you want to go with Kings OEM kits. Much easier to bolt on and sort out. As far as the rear goes I had King make a custom rear shock for me the compressed length is 16.97" and the extended is 28.30". I had them do this to match MT's setup for their long travel. Thus the use of their spring. Not 100% on the spring yet. I ended up with a reverse rake at first and now that the rear bumper is on I'm curious if I will need to go with a custom spring to get me the lift I need and the support for the rear bumper and adventure trips. The concept of the dual rate spring I like alot and so far it has done wonderful. I will be able to get a full report on the performance of this setup here in Mid may. Have a Moab trip planned with some friends! Hopefully this kind of answers your questions. Shoot me a PM if you want any other pointers.
I am in the process of ordering a set of Kings OEM 2.5 suspension. I'm replacing the OW 2.5 setup and would like to keep the same amount of lift/travel. Should I get the 8" or the 10" extended travel in the rear? I have ordered the Toytec Superflex coils for the rear. Why did you go with the MetalTech coils?

I see you had some fun with the front remote resi's. Was it due to your particular setup? What length line should I request for the front remote resi's? I only have LR UCA's and don't intend to lift it higher than 3".

Here they are! Still have a few kinks to work out with them but overall pretty happy with it!

Damn!!! Looking good. Those 285/75's are looking beefy. I think I'm going the Falken route in that size.

Bumper is looking great.

Is the front higher then the back suspension? Looks like theres a bit of a prerunner lean - but that thing is looking huge!

Love to see in person.

Awesome!!! Definitely worth the wait. Those 285s look perfect with your setup. I'd be curious to know how the LT setup is treating you on the road after you've got some miles on it. I have considered going mod crazy with mine at some point but the more miles I get, the harder I have justifying the costs. Haha

Funny you say that about the lean. Been trying to get that sorted. The 700lb coils from KING really lift the front. Might try and crank them back down some more or look at custom rear springs.

It looks from the pics you can lower then down 1/4 of thread, which should be 1/2 inch of height. In the rear, are you running the HD version of the MT LT kit?

MT actually doesn't offer this anymore. They just offer the one dual rate spring for their long travel kit. The KING Coilovers just gave me alot of lift and yea still have some more to drop if I want! Might try adding those OME yellow spacers in it eventually.

Might try and take her out this weekend to test out the tires and suspension so let me know if you want to meet up.

Cool. I just got some new tires I want to test out.

beautiful well thought out build!!! Your 4runner is everything I want mine to be, I'm here patiently waiting for a good priced used tc/allpro 2" kit to hit the classifieds so i can have 2 long travel yotas!

Well I finally got to get her out and do some flexing! Great day on the trail!

Went up to Rainbow Falls out near Colorado Springs. Really fun trail with some fun side obstacles!

Thanks for the input! I ended up going with the OEM Kings with 10" rear shocks. I only have an additional 200#'s of weight in the front which I mentioned when ordering. Hopefully this will be the perfect setup. Now the waiting game begins...

You wont be disappointed with the kings man. I absolutely love them on the trail. Literally night and day from my old setup. Cost what they do for a reason that is for sure.

3 hours or so. If you want me and my buddy have the template in cardboard and have installed 3 of them so far. One on a V8 and 2 on V6's. Pretty much have her down now. Just let me know if you want either one of us to help ya out!

need more pics or updates! anything!....like I've said before you hands down have one of the nicest and most well thought out 4th gens ever!!!

Sorry for the wait! Been getting life sorted for way too long. I’ve been on a bunch of trips lately. Here are a few highlights. Also a few updates on the truck: been a process getting the long travel to ride right. Learned my lesson with all the suspension work. Blue loctite and anti seize are your friends. Lost a bunch of important bolts on my suspension because of the lack of loctite...
Also got a total chaos panhard on the way to hopefully help with the drive shaft rubbing on my gas tank/skid. Truck is finally running better though. Did the mundane maintenance and grease all the zirk fittings (There are a ton!) and reinstalled a bunch of bolts with loctite and antiseize. Great to have the truck feel brand new again!

Nice setup! like that rear bumper, it's a shame I don't believe they will ship a finished built rear bumper, so the end user can install themselves. Someone said they only do in-house installs.
