Volant Cold Air Intake

Here are the dyno proven results of the Volant CAI. Installed on an '05 Sport Edition with just exhaust being the other mod. The AFR's are at a factory 11.8:1. The gains are plotted against stock + catback exhaust.

17 AWHP and 6 AWTQ, not bad...

These are SAE corrected numbers, so they'd be roughly the same at sea level. Uncorrected I put down like 150 WHP up here at 5500 ft!!
 
Im right on with those numbers. I love it between 3500 and 4200 rpms, its a beast. it sounds like a jet engine taking off at that level. make sure you hit us up after you run it with that new pcu your getting....

I posted in another thread about this, but just FYI, the 12 HP that K&N lists for their intake on the new model V8's is at the wheel, not at the crank. I know its still less than the volant, but I'm partial to K&N I guess.
 
I can get you both. The main thing is the volant is a sealed box design, where as the K&N lets more engine heat in, since it's not a sealed intake, hence not as much power.
 
I was a bit concerned when I saw (and read here) that the "heat shield" for the K&N kit is made of metal....making a nice little oven for the filter. I was wondering if there was some kind of padding/insulation/spray or something I could put on this shield to sort of insulate it and keep the filter a little cooler? I know its an open element so it wont make a huge difference, but I bet it would make some. Any ideas?

ps--sorry i know this is a volant thread, but you guys seem to know a lot about intakes.
 
Will Ea filter fit? CARB exempt?

Questions for those running the Volant. I'm seriously considering this as my next mod but am wondering if one of you could measure the filter (larger oval one). I know that might be asking a lot. I really just need the diameter of the end that hooks up to the intake. The heighth of the filter would also be great to have. I'm wondering if the the AmSoil Ea filter would fit.

Also, is the unit going to cause problems with emmissions testing? I have to get an emmissions test every 2 years and will not likely get one if it means I'll fail the test w/o removing the kit.

Thanks Jason. Do you think you might be able to post on the filter dimensions. I'm interested in using one of the dry Ea filters that AmSoil recently came out with for CAIs. Also, saw a new post about a TRD CAI. Do you know about these, for V8?
 
Volant Boys,

What kind of mileage are you guys getting out of filters before cleaning? Has anyone used the Volant cleaning kit?

Mine has been on since april of last year but here in vegas its dusty as hell and im thinking its about time to clean it (about 6K miles).
 
im getting over 700km to a tank its gone down the last little bit with new exhaust (just to hear sound) but still very impressed

I should have been more specific..I was wanting to know what mileage interval are you going with for cleaning of the Volant Filter? Mine looks dirty as hell at about 8K miles.
 
ahh i see i see
i had mine on....must of been late fall
and just had it cleaned
my garage took care of that when they did the last tune up
was not that dirty but just to keep it in shape

It all depends on the conditions you drive in (and you are in a dusty area for sure), most filters won't need to be cleaned for 20k.

You don't need to buy the Volant oil kit to re-oil. You can use the K&N re-oil kit, the Airaid re-oil kit, etc. I can get either of these for you as well. :)

thanks man...

Ive already got the K&N from my m3/m5's and so i guess ill use that. I just wasnt sure if there was a specific formulations needed for the volant filters versus that of other companies.
