If you have an SR5, then I think I found the same plug in my '06.

That plug would go to an SRS deactivation button which is the Side Curtain Airbags (probably stands for Side Restraint System). Since our SR5 don't have side airbags, it's not used. Also, I checked and it doesn't fit the '08 VSC / Traction Control / FJ Button.

The plug your talking about would go the the RSCA (Roll-Sensing Curtain Airbags) off switch. All airbags including the fronts ones in the 4runner are SRS which stands for supplemental restraint system...you were close.

As for the mystery plug...it could also be for the 115AC inverter that comes in the Limited. The trac off plug that is in V8's is blue just like in chaz's post.

Not quite. SRS is the system used in modern vehicles which is a combination of airbags, seatbelt pretensioners and a bunch of sensors which work together to keep you safe in an accident. RCSA is just a combination of sensors that deploy the side curtain airbags in the event of a roll over. Just to give you perspective, my 2003 Limited has SRS with side curtain airbags but no RSCA. That option only came out in 04 or 05.

First off, thanks for all the great information in this thread. I've been running the basic version of this mod which was detailed in the original post on my '04 Limited V8 for a few months now, and it works great.

I'm now looking to ditch my radioshack toggle switch and utilize the blue connector behind the dash for a stock look, like SSt4r detailed in his post. I already bought the VSC Off and modified it to work as an on/off using Gaterose's instructions and then realized that my '04 doesn't have the skid control ecu in that easily accessible place under the hood...

I'm not really familiar with the location of the skid control on my year, so I was thinking about trying the following instead of going digging for it.

- Cut red/white wire at the empty blue connector in dash
- Disconnect my original toggle switch
- Take my wire from toggle switch (which is tapped into red/purple at 4x4ecu under glovebox) and splice it with red/white one for the blue connector
(essentially accomplishing this... hopefully)

Hope that made sense. Do you guys know if this would work? Or am I missing something?

Does anyone know the part number for the blue side of the VSC switch? I have found the switch online but I can't seem to find the harness that plugs into the back of it. Thanks!

Sorry, limited abilities with Tapatalk App but here is the part number from another thread. (PN# 90980-10933) but remember that the connector doesn't come with wires attached. You'll need to buy 4 repair terminals and supply your own wires. Search the forum in my pic around page 4 or 5.

New member. 2005 v8 limited. I want to do this mod strictly to avoid wheel spin on take off in snow. I thought that instead of an on off switch I would use the momentary switch mounted in one of the blanks in the console. Would I then be able to turn off Vsc while holding the switch down, and then after pulling out and gaining speed release the switch and have VSC operational again? Just think this would keep me from forgetting to turn it off when I shut the vehicle Down or having to use relays to do it for me. So would this work?

Apparently, I misunderstood the directions for disengaging this on my TE. After rereading pages 272-276, I'm pretty sure I've got this under control. Just need a minute to test this out now...

I have an 07 Ltd, however I do not have Techstream. I think I am going to wire the FJ switch to the master cylinder so it cuts VSC and TRAC.

I recently had issues getting up a muddy hill with the dif locked and VSC off. The traction control prevented me from accelerating up the hill. I had to take 3 runs at it before I was successful... Time for a mod

you may want to think about a locker. with the vsc/trac off mod you still have open diffs, so gunning it up muddy hills still might not work well even with the center locked- Understanding & Using ATRAC II+ - Toyota 120 Platforms Forum

Nice link. I don't know if I could justify a locker for the half dozen times I would need it/year.

Either way the stock A-Track system on 4th gen 4Runners is garbage (at low speeds on slippery surfaces). You shouldn't be getting passed by a 98 Cavalier going up a snow covered hill!

I'll update after the mod and some testing.

Have you had a chance to try this yet? I recently had some sand dune experience in 4Hi and it was awful to say the least. I couldn't get the truck to rev up and generate wheel spin which is essential in sand. I'm tempted to try the mod switch in the original post but it sure would look better with the toyota VSC off switch, though this is a momentary switch and the mod sounds like a pain.
Also not explained well in this mod is how to get the center diff definitively locked when needed. If the lights don't mean anything it can get complicated.

Iv'e been doing reading but im still confused.

I have a 2004 4WD 4Runner with the "locker" button that only engages when im in 4LO

I do also have the VSC/TRAC kill switch mod to turn all that stuff off.

What exactly do I need to be able to use the locker in 2WD or 4HI.

Seems to be too much technical things going on in this thread .

Bascially I strip a wire and attach it to a ground? if someone can clear this up id appreciate it,
