Warranty- aftermarket parts

The AFE CAI that I installed, the stealership may try to void the warranty I have -I got the preowned 100k extended warranty. Has anyone ran into this? What was the end result?
I did hear there is a law that does not allow dealerships to void warrantys when you put aftermarket parts on your vehicle- reason there is an entire industry in aftermarket parts and it's not legal to bind someone to not do aftermarket parts.

Let me tell you I haven't done this kick ass of a mod since putting a four barrel carbuerator on a 4 cyl air cooled VW engine in my Karmann Ghia. I love the AFE CAI it makes the truck more special driving it

They can't void your warranty unless they can prove the aftermarket part was the cause of whatever problem happened to your car. And just so you know AFE made the TRD air intake.

Don't forget to mention that you have to actually sue the dealership and prove your case in court. The Magnuson-Moss Act is a nice idea, but in reality is completely useless. Telling people that the dealership has to "prove" that their part was at fault means they have to prove it in a legal sense... which means you're going to court.

If you install an aftermarket CAI and your motor throws a rod, the dealership can claim the CAI was at fault. Then what do you do? You can't really prove that it wasn't while you're standing there in the service bay. They also can't really prove it did also standing there. You can appeal to a regional rep or even to corporate... but in the end, you would actually have to take them to court to enforce Magnuson-Moss.

The bottom line is that ANYTHING aftermarket you do to your car is a risk, and 99% of the time, the dealership will win when it comes to aftermarket parts and warranty denials.

Screw the warranty. After 6 Toyotas and that many domestic vehicles, I think the most I got out of warranty work was minor nickle and dime BS. Don't worry about warranty. Go enjoy your vehicle.

Well Put ! I agree You Got a toyota because they Dont break ...Youll prob. Never even use the warranty ! I Never have And I have bought new toyotas since 1980

I don't understand? I didn't really give any advice. Advice would suggest that I recommend a particular course of action to you... and I don't. All I did was clear up some bad (although not incorrect) advice in the previous post. I even gave you the name of the law your were mentioning and how it applies in the real world.

You'll take the word of somebody on the internet and people "locally" because you like what they said, and probably those people read something on the internet at one time too... but they've never actually done any real homework nor have personal experience. I have personal experience with the Federal Lemon Law of 1975 (usually called Magnuson-Moss Act), and it doesn't mean anything unless both you and the dealership are willing to go to court.

Now that you are more fully informed, you should be able to make your own decision about aftermarket parts and the possible consequences. I have many aftermarket parts on my cars, but I also know the law, and I know how dealerships work. I would say that I am more "safe" than the average person who just assumes you scream "Lemon Law" at the top of your lungs at the service counter and the manager cowers behind his desk in fear. Be a powerful consumer and inform yourself, it really is us against them sometimes.
