Water in My Gas Tank?

Hey....gotta get some help...I am 99% sure I got a tank of water a month ago..I get down to 1/4 and my rig won't run for ****...it throws a check engine light...anybody have a solution to get the water out?? I could siphon it, maybe a good product?? AND usually, the CE light goes out, but it is still on...how can I shut it off??? Please any thoughts would help!!!!

1/4 tank of water is a lot of water.

I believe that you have another problem. Your fuel pump is on its way out. It needs the help of a full tank to deliver the right amount of fuel pressure the engine needs.

Replace the fuel pump before it leaves you stranded and have to get it towed.

You will probably have to take the pump out of the tank and get all the water you can out. Probably be a good time to change the pump while your there.

Change the fuel filter too.

Run lots of dry gas thru it. Get the Isopropyl alcohol based one. Works a lot better then the Methanol ones do.

And having a full tank of gas has nothing to do with the pump pressures. Pump makes a certain amount of pressure regardless of fuel amount. Just a full tank cools the pump more then an empty tank.

Personal experience on two different cars. It is the fuel pump.

If there was enough water in the tank, it would cause problems all the time, not just when it is 1/4 full. Water is heavier the gas and will always be on the bottom.

I think you have to drop the tank, but thats not all that hard

I agree with the fuel pump, but you may want to also take a fuel sample from your gas tank and look at it. You can disconnect the filler hose going to the tank and stick a hose in there and siphon some out. Put the sample in a glass jar so you can see if there's water in there.

Ok...Just added a bottle of techtron and topped off the tank....All is running smooth as silk and no check engine light....I am still going to check the gas...If I have to drain it, is there an easy way?? And where is the fuel filter....please forgive my Newby questions....Thanks!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the info!!!! Im not sure, but this one random gas station where I never stop in Manchester, NH...I had to stop...I was on fumes. This is where I figured it must have happened...they were having trouble with the pump....etc while I was trying to fill up...so I just got 10 bucks. I usually dont get below 1/4, so I have not noticed it until two weeks ago. Well see what happens next. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nope....still issues...I went to the local Advance Auto and got the code and it was a PO300 and 306. Cylinder misfire....no !@#$% sherlock...so I got all the stuff for a tune up; NGK plugs, wires, fuel filter, MAF and TB cleaner... Could it be a stuck injector?? It is running great now...
