Center Console Constant 12V

With all the accessories I have running through the center area I wanted to get rid of all the power cords running out everywhere. I added a Blue Sea Dual USB socket to the center console. It puts out about 4.8A total, supplying more than enough power to all my accessories.

Carefully removed the shifter trim and made sure the back of the console wasn't obstructed before I started drilling. Traced a hole to use as the guide for my hole saw.

Connected some 12GA leads from a constant hot and plugged it into the socket.

Completed

Definitely helped clean up the wiring. iPad running Gaia, Android running APRS maps.

I'm using a RAM 1" diamond base bolted into the trim plastics near the radio. I used some scrap steel I had laying around and trimmed it using a pair of tin snips for additional support. It's pretty solid and doesn't move around at all on trails.

Link to the base and socket arm. You'll need to get a mount specific to your ipad, and another ball mount base to connect that ipad mount to the socket arm.

I figured I'd post up a few pics from my recent trip through the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. I'll have a real write up sometime later if there's enough interest.

A few friends and I made a route encompassing most of the North Rim GC during Thanksgiving week. Our route took us 500 miles on dirt, and was about 8 days from start to finish. It could've been 9, but we were starting to smell awful bad and my wife was giving me funny looks inside the tent. We sat through a raging storm with rain and hail while camped on the edge of the rim (that was fun), cut and winched our way through downed trees about 4 times. It was awesome visiting the Grand Canyon during a holiday, and never seeing another group or person the whole time there.

Anyways, on to the pics:

First dirt.

Camped at Jumpup, got hammered by a huge storm. We were able to snap a few quick photos before the rain came back in.

Trails were pretty damn slick and muddy. Came out with new paint jobs.

Glad we left, since we'd have some epic views the next day. But first we had to get there. Almost feel bad for the guys behind me on the trail (if you can see them)...

Made it into camp in time for a SB Point sunset

My apologies. I forgot you are vertically challenged. Next time I will try my best to take photos from an angle lower to the ground that better represents the view from your drivers seat.

Thanks guys! Nothing beats waking up to a view of the canyon every morning on the edge of the rim. Definitely a trip I'll remember for quite some time- at least until I get out there again. There were a few points I wanted to visit but didn't have time to.

I like it a lot. It's the perfect size to fit up top, and comfortable enough for my wife and I to sleep in for several days. Really happy with the ease of setup- I leave my sleeping bag, pillows, and sleep clothes inside. When I pull into camp I literally just crank it up and my setup is done.

One minor drawback is the lost roof rack space. Unlike the soft RTTs I lose all storage up top, so I have to be a little creative with the already limited cargo space in the back. With that being said, with the exception of maybe a jack I have all the tools, spares, and supplies I could possibly need. We travel in groups so everyone is responsible for misc supplies (chainsaw, shovel, jack, etc).

Why'd you switch? Was it mostly for your RTT or was it due to weight, quality, function or a combo?

I've actually had a Gobi on my previous 5th gen, lol.

The Bajarack and Gobi are pretty similar in quality. That being said, the Bajarack was a pretty good bang for the buck, and I'd probably have one if my Maggiolina worked well on it. The area near the front fairing interfered with the tent, but that was specific to just the Bajarack I had (with the built-in light bar solenoid). Rather than modify and re-powdercoat the BR, I opted to go with the K9 as it also was a lot lower profile and a sturdier RTT platform.

Great thread with awesome pictures, gives me lots of ideas for when we actually pick up a 4R.

I can't imagine a better trip. Camping the canyon and then cruising "the strip" in a completely dirty 4Runner. I'm super jealous. Great pics.

BAMF Rock Sliders

I ordered a set of BAMF sliders from Jerry when he first started making the bolt-on sliders available. I had it ordered with full length plating, bump-outs, and also had him customize the angle to be flatter so my wife could use them as steps- final angle was 15 degrees if I recall correctly.

Those sliders look great! Wish I had seen these pics a month ago, I looked at their site but they don't have any really good pics with the fill plates. Can't beat that logo!
