The inspection place took the cap off...your oil pressure would be significantly less if it was off. Seriously with the engine at idle take the oil cap off and watch the engine make a different noise and the idle bog. At least that is what happens when I took mine off to check the ring compression on my '91 (checking for blow-by).

only pressure that would change is the crankcase pressure under load, or crankcase vacuum under idle/low loads. What caused your engine to bog was probably the too high of a quantity of air getting through your PCV valve into your intake.

Pump is mechanically driven, and pushes a liquid through gear actions, crankcase pressure or vaccum has no noticeable effect on this.

Still, driven at high RPM for long without a cap, damage would be possible. But in this case, not even a drop was present under hood. ( ? )

As he said - poor choice of words. Likely meant to say there would be oil all over the engine bay.

if your cap was off only 1 day, you would have oil splashed all over your underhood, now for a few months, you would clearly see the signs!

I know because I did forget the cap after an oil change on my tacoma V6, which is basically the same engine. Forgot it for about 1 hour and there was a mess.

I find it weird that no oil spashed. Maybe you keep your truck under 1500 RPM at all times... for months... ??

My guess is that the dealer left the oil cap off at the service you had it in for, and did not want to admit that you caught their screw-up. It happens. I doubt there is any damage, especially since it seems obvious that no oil came splashing up out of the filler tube. Good thing you checked it...

You misunderstood, my experience was caused by my own mistake. OP is a different situation.

The oil spray out of the cap would depend on the baffles inside the head on that side. I have no idea what they look like there. I have left the cap off a 22r - made one hell of a mess. Lucky it didn't catch fire on the exhaust.

Oh, and my 2015 TEP does not have hood insulation. It just has the rubber seal where the hood scoop meets the intercooler on top of the engine.

That's weird. Why would they not all be the same? If the felt liner has some value, then it should be on all. If not it should be on none. It's more $ to manufacture than auto headlights would cost...

Not the end of the world. Have it documented and drive off into the sunset knowing your driving a tough machine
