Mine has 3 chips in it I've had to have repaired. I would cry if I got a run like that. Just the chips that people can barely I stare at cause I know they there. Bugs the crap out of me. Good luck hope insurance takes care of it.

Hope I don't have to fight with the insurance company to gets new one.
Seems common with our windshields unfortunately.

Mine just cracked too. I did a 350 mile trip sunday and took a rock in the black tinted area below the wiper on the passenger side. I heard it hit, but didn't see a chip. This afternoon my wife came home in it and I saw the 6" crack as she pulled in the drive. Gotta call USAA tomorrow. They use safelite for glass. I only want toyota parts so o might have to eat some of the cost.

These windshields must be pretty thin. I've had two tacomas and a mustang never had a rock chip, got 3 in about 5 months with the 4runner.

Merely a flesh wound. I had worse than that within my first week.
I finally put a new one in about a month ago, since I could hardly see through it anymore. Got a nice new divot again about a week ago.
Good news is that a windshield is only about $400

Caution: May not be applicable, biut my '08 4R needed a windshield and I went to my local Safelite. It was the cheapest glass that could haveossibly been machined for my truck and had distortions looking through the edges. I complained and ended up settling for paying labor only.. Awful. Beware. Get it done right, not least expensively.

Yes to the rake (or lack of) being a factor. Jeep Wranglers are known for having chip/crack issues, and I imagine the FJ might too.
Wife brought our '14 home a month ago with a chip. Looked like a spider smashed by half a marble. Fortunately got it to repair place before the "legs" started spreading. Figure it'll get hit again, so I'll repair (if possible) a couple more times then bite the bullet and get it replaced.
Naturally, it has to be on driver's side where I have to look at it every time I get in...

With auto glass you get what you pay for. If you pay a cheap price you get cheap glass. I used to work in a PPG plant that actually produced glass for many uses, including windshields and side-lites and back-lites. I can tell you that there is "glass" and there is glass. Just because a windshield meets DOT standards does not mean that all windshields manufactured by any glass manufacturer are equally as good as those of another manufacturer. While a manufacturer's windshield may meet strength requirements it may have more distortion at the edges than another manufacturer's windshield, or it may have more bubbles or other defects. One of my jobs was working in an inspection booth on auto lite runs and we had a zero defect tolerance. I've since seen replacement glass coming from plants in China that would never have passed inspection at PPG for use in auto lites, too many bubbles. They aren't apparent when you look at the windshield under normal lighting conditions but drive into a setting sun and the defects become apparent. Look at objects through the edge of the windshield on cheap glass and everything will be distorted. That glass would never have made it through inspection at PPG.
PPG glass is now PGW glass. If you get PGW glass you are getting good aftermarket glass.

Fair enough but when you live in Colorado, it doesn't matter if you have $1,500 or $150 glass, we live in a Rocky Mountains that snow and then wet and then dry leaving rocks all over the road. Thus, it's inevitable to get a cracked windshield, so why spend for the higher quality? Now, living in Florida, the south or California, Oregon, Washington or maybe a big city, then completely agree.
