What am I doing wrong???

I have been reading up on the 2010 SR5 V-6 for weeks, studying the options and cost at dealers online web sites and the Kelley BB types sites. I have done this on other purchases and dealing online has always worked. Most everything I buy is an online purchase.

Last week I started to request prices for the basic SR5 with no port options,(YUCK). (Orlando area S.E.T.). I used either the only form available on the dealers web site or a direct e-mail of the internet sales people. I sent out at least fifteen request for quotes, asking very politely. I received one response, only one out of the bunch. I did receive a response from a few but it was just a link to their page or to asked me about color when I had covered it already in the request.

I did visit the one dealer today and we came up within $1000 of where I wanted to be at $29,345.00 and to me that is high. So don't the Toyota people want to sell a car??? Is it Christmas??? Well, it is the end of the year. Is it me, am I not doing it right after all these years. Does anyone even care if they make a living anymore? Venting, whew!

$29,000 seems very cheap for a 2010. They just came out a few months ago, so I the deals they are willing to make probably aren't that good right now.
 
I've been keeping tabs on the 2010 inventory in the Chicago suburbs out of curiosity, and I notice that several dealers are selling them almost as fast as they get them posted on their Web sites. Limiteds seem to be hot right now. I haven't seen a TE appear yet, so either there aren't any around or they're selling before they hit the lot.

It might be tough to deal on them. I noticed that both 4Runner and Tacoma don't have any special rebates or financing for "Toyotathon" around here. Now is prime time to sell 4x4's. July is the time to buy them.
 
I offered $27,500 and the dealer says he can't come down at all so I told him to inflate the trade in for my 2003. Kelley says around $10,500 so I hope to find out tomorrow if he will be above or below. It's got 67,000 mi on it and looks new.

My biggest problem with the S.E.T cars is the junk they try and force on you from the Jacksonville port. If I had a way to get rid of the cargo slide out it would be the first to go, just a big dirt collector. They try and get you to spend $700 for the Toyoguard which is a pure waste of money as it buys nothing. I also told them that I did not want to cook waffles in the back of the car and to get rid of the 120V outlets. They say that is factory and stays. Another big waste is the tinted saran wrap they try to put on the windows. I told them it cheapened the car.

I will more than likely add the moon roof and running boards plus the White pearl which my wife likes, yuck, I don't care for it but there is little choice of color. I'm still looking for mud flaps.
 
The cargo slide-out and the power outlets are factory. I agree with you about the Toyoguard and the window "tint". I hate that when the dealers or distributors add cheap aftermarket crap in order to inflate the profit margin. A couple of dealers by me are notorious for that, so I won't even shop there.
 
Here in central FL we are under the command of S.E.T. and they apparently set the rules for the dealers here. The port at Jacksonville is from what I can see how you select your car. The 120V outlets and sliding rack are factory, yet listed as options and you are charged for them. To me they are part of the car and should just be included in the invoice/MSRP.

I am close with one dealer and here is my figures for just the basics. BTW, I contend that I should be able to at least get INVOICE price and that the dealer will still make money, plenty of it as he will get MSRP on all the options.

Aren't the cargo shelf and the power outlets on the window sticker?
The cargo shelf is factory option code CD, $350 MSRP / $280 invoice.
The power point is code NA, $200 MSRP / $160 invoice.

The dealer's $600 mystery fee is probably an "advertising fee". If I mention the fact that I got the invoice price from the Internet, then I always hear about how the advertising fee is not included in that figure. (That's why I don't say the word "invoice" in a dealership any more. It starts a debate about what invoice price is.) I say BS on that, but it's your call.

I think your math is fine and I agree that they should still make money even if you're at rock bottom per the Internet. If you're willing to pay $28,498 for that truck, it sounds very fair to me. If they don't want to come down to that number, they must not feel they have to cut the deal that thin and will make more from someone else.
 
I guess I posted this in the wrong place, sorry, what do I know, old and confused.

Well I have a whole new development. My wife came to me this morning, (this is really going to be her car) and said, "I hate what they have done to the 4Runner, I don't want one". She can't stand the dash, slide out cargo rack, color of the instruments, (orange lettering) and bubble lights front and back. Along with that she said it looked to blocky.

After getting up off the floor I said, "OKkkk". I went to my computer and started to look. I happened to see a side view of the Sequoia and told her to take a look. She went on line and looked at every detail and fell in love with it. She even likes the idea of big. Now I am getting quotes and I too have a liking for what I see. Never thought much about one before. Where is the Sequoia forum????? :-)
 
You won't find a 2010 T4R for less than $30k for the next year or so. If you do, you better buy it quick.

Deland Toyota has quoted me and it's not right in front of me but around $29,300.00 and that is without any port options. As I recall it was $800 over what I was willing to pay but we are in the middle of making up the difference in the trade in. I have to call him tomorrow and ask him to quote me a Sequoia. He will either be happy or think I'm nuts.
 
i was told by the dealership i bought mine from that no TE's will be available on lots in IL or WI because the regional VP thought there wasnt a market for them. he said they would be special order only..not sure if it was true or not but we have bought 7 cars from the guy and he has always been straight up
 
When I got mine a month ago today they told me that there were only around 150 in the US so far. I know the dealers in a little larger market around here (Little Rock, AR and Memphis, TN are within an hours drive) they didn't even have any. I know the dealer in the small town I live in though has had 5 including mine. Kelley Blue Book on my 2006 4Runner SR5 was $18285.00 I got $17000.00 for it and then $34000.00 sticker price with no rebates. They told me there wouldn't be any rebates for at least 1 year. To me it was worth it and I love my 2010.
 
Well I bit the bullet today and traded in my 2003 4Runner SR5 for a Sequoia SR5 with the only extra mats because they were in the car. It will be sad to let the 03 go but this new giant is something else.

Just off the top of my head, if I threw all the extras the Sequoia comes with onto the 2010 4Runner I would have paid about the same, like I said off the top of my head. The deal was give them my 03 and $30,600.00. Next best was $32,300.00 and the dealer said to go get the other one if I could, I did! I will still have my 98 4Runner, old faithful.

Wife's comments: Thank goodness no slide out cargo shelf. Thank goodness no bubble lights and Thank goodness no orange lettered instruments. Her biggest comment and I agree, "The profile of the Sequoia looks more like the traditional 4Runner that she likes. We both felt the 4runner had become to blocky and plastic toy looking. We are retired and resistant to change.

The Sequoia doesn't look large and over inflated?

But besides that, how are you liking it? We are looking at purchasing one.
 
We don't have it yet, it is being shipped in from Georgia and we should have it within ten days. We drove one yesterday and it felt big but very, very easy to handle, very quiet. Strange the 4.7l engines are not available and they all come with the 5.7l which was ok by me. We went back and looked at the 4Runner just before signing and to me it looked more like a Rav :-(
