What are your HIGHWAY mpg's? 4th Gen

272k miles! anything major that has been fixed?

Wheel bearings, valve cover gaskets, radiator and tie rod ends are the only things I've done outside of the Toyota maintenance schedule.
Still even has the original alternator...
Edit: also replaced water pump twice, replaced the thermostat 255k as gasket was leaking

I'm currently on the lookout for a newer 4runner since I'm giving my 2004 to my oldest son to drive to school. I'll most likely be looking for another V6.....late 4th gen or even an early 5th.

Driving highway to my sisters house this weekend 75mph got 20mpg best I ever got. All hand calculated after fill up.

Anything else you want to add: My commute is pretty much exactly half 55mph limit, and half 60mph. Most days I'm on cruise control almost the entire trip. Economy is based on trip meter/fuel to fill, trip meter is not adjusted after tire size increase.

Truck got 17-19 as I bought it. 20-22 after tune up, plugs, filters, gear oil, ect. Amsoil gear oil an engine oil, OEM plugs, Wix filter, cleaned MAF sensor, new OEM PCV, ect.

Added URD LT's, all new o2 sensor's, an set my hand calculated record @ 24.8 MPG.

Truck has 171k miles.

Only have taken one hiway trip, and this is what it averaged out. The trip computer is so wrong, at least 3 or 4 mpg optimistic! I get 17-18 mpg around town.

Average speed you travel: 80+ Keep in mind I learned to drive in NJ, so I do drive like the stereotype.

Performance (lol) intake, Flowmaster 50 suv, 3° retard cam gears, XTP intake plenum spacer.

Current highway fuel economy: 17 thanks mainly to the cam gears, they make a good difference. City driving is about 15, which is pretty good considering all the extra weight.

How do you like the 245's? I run 255's but recently I've seen that size in some all terrains. Curious to compare weights and wondering how they do in snow.
Its not even 1/2" so probably not much difference.

The tires came with the car when bought so i cant compare to the original 265s. Tire size calculator says the height difference is only 0.06" or 1/16" compared to stock 265/65-17. When the time comes im looking to go with 255/70-17s. I also have no experience in the snow, we dont get that here :sobbing:

I'm not sure but I think this is after I installed the speedometer healer which corrects the speedometer which in turn corrects the odometer to compensate for the larger tires. So by manually correcting for the 12% difference I doubled up on the math.

So I think my actual numbers with 35's were:

@73mph 16.3mpg
@80mph 14.5mpg

With 37's I think its closer to 11 or 12 in town commuting.
