Had my sunroof tinted - 35% Llumar High Performance Series - Just to keep the rig a bit cooler when it sits outside in the parking lot all day.
Seems to help quite a bit!!!

I was under the impression that tinting the sunroof can cause it to explode/shatter for no apparent reason. I can't remember if this was something the tint shop told me or if I read it online. It might be one of those myths.... Like Blinker Fluid.

apparently there are certain types of tint that can be used. Llumar happens to be one of them

I do not believe it is a myth. I have tinted two sunroofs here in AZ, and both have blown to pieces. Thankfully, I was not in the vehicle at the time for either of them.

According to the tinter who did it, the Llumar premium stuff was good to go for sunroofs. I asked him that same question.

It's down in Trabuco Canyon. The last picture is the end of Holy Jim hiking trail.
It's a fairly easy trail but still fun!

Did a ton of research about this sunroof shattering stuff... I double and triple checked with my tinter, two other local tinter's, and some online resources... kinda researched the $hit out of this and here's what I found in case anyone else out there is interested in getting their sunroof tinted.
- The sunroof shattering "myth" started in the 80's or so.
- Dual pane sunroofs such as those found on Porche's etc, have had problems with this due to the heat reflecting off the tint of the bottom pane and being trapped in the airspace between the two panes and causing an "explosion"... supposedly....
- Older tint, especially the near "limo" tints back in the 80s had poor heat reflection and had more heat absorption qualities causing a massive buildup of heat in the sunroof.
Everyone I have spoke to said they will not tint any vehicle with a dual pane sunroof, but they have no problem tinting single pane roofs on modern cars. They all said they use reflective type tints to maximize heat reflection, and minimize absorption. All three tinters have tinted hundreds without an issue.
I'm pretty confident I shouldn't have problem so I will be the guinea pig on this one. :banana:

Seeing as I am getting my windows tinted on Monday, Should I ask for a reflective tint on the sunroof? Lumar is a good brand so I have heard, but I'd like to get some heat reflection on the sunroof seeing as I live in Vegas and it's hotter than a camel crotch in a sandstorm.
