What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!

Finally cleaned and vacuumed the interior for the first time. Took over 2 hours :wow: Funny the front looked pretty good but the back, well lets just say...anyone want an eight year old?

Been doing a lot of manual labor...

Took off the stock roof rack in preparation for the Gobi Stealth rack which should be arriving tomorrow. Woooo!

Installed some Spidertrax 1.25" wheel spacers I ordered from All-Pro over the weekend. Really makes the stance of the vehicle look awesome IMO.

Pick up the new 4R on Friday eve. Drove 100 miles thru bugs to the lake. Sat morning woke up 6:30am(ugh so much for sleeping in) took her straight to the car wash to get bugs off! Drove home yesterday and it rained on us almost the entire way! So I washed and waxed her this morning. Also ordered weathertech floor mats. Busy weekend but she's all clean now!! DVD should be installed at the dealer tomorrow.

a little camping

Took the month-old TE camping for the weekend. Overall, a much different experience trying to fit all my stuff (ha, silly possessions getting in the way) in the 4R vs. the Frontier with a shell!

Thoughts:
1. I need a basket for the top. No doubt I shouldn't have just strapped the bag to the crossbars, but I really ran out of space too fast! I put the light stuff up top, sleeping bags, tents etc, but was surprised I didn't dent the roof at all!

2. KDSS is great when you are fully loaded

3. New North Shore Racks bike rack is great. 4 bikes, 2 minutes to load, easy peasy.

4. I can see some canvas backs in my future: 4 kids and a dog riding in the back, fresh off playing on the beach at the lake left me with a lot of cleaning to do, most of it in the carpet.

Dang bugs. The day after I bought mine I drove 300+ miles and came on the forum the next day and had to ask if this thing was a bug magnet or if it was just ironic timing. As it turns out, it was just ironic timing so don't run to the dealer to buy a bug guard unless you like the looks of them. What type of DVD system are you getting installed? Roof, headrest, or something else?

Went out to the Mojave Preserve on Friday for some meetings about our event later this year (Mojave Road Historical Overland Tour). Just got back this afternoon.

The weekend was off to a very cold and snowy start but it warmed up nicely.

We were exploring two areas in particular during the trip. This was taken in the Grotto Hills after taking an abandoned road from the 20's or 30's around the backside into this little valley.

Had a chance to meet a volunteer group from Water for Wildlife. They were having a raffle for hunting and camping gear. These people go out and repair and maintain the water guzzlers for deer and big horn sheep.

They were staying at our friend Jerry's campground The Mojave Desert Outpost. The Outpost is located right where The Mojave Road crosses Ivanpah /Landfair Road at 35.13866,-115.18697. It is a cool place to camp or use as a basecamp for exploring. He only charges $5 per vehicle for camping! We stayed down at Goffs in our RV which is parked out there most of the time.

My Dad's dog Naco is an avid desert adventurer.

The second place we explored was just at the opening to Caruthers Canyon. The watchman for one of the local mines lived in a little cabin/shack up in the rocky hills. After not reporting to work for a couple days, a few miners went to check on him. He had been killed and dismembered by local Indians. As retaliation, the miners laced a bag of flour with strychnine and placed it down on the road. The Indians found it and many fell sick and died. We know that the miners carried his body off of the hill and buried it, but his grave and cabin have never been found. We spent most of the day Sunday looking for it, but were unsuccessful in locating them with any amount of certainty.. We did find an old road from the 1880's or so, and found a spring that used to have a structure of some kind over it. Also, we found a rock cairn on a flat spot high on the hill. This might have been where the cabin was. More exploring in necessary, and we might just nail it down.

My wife forgot her lunch at the house so I drove it to her this evening (she's a night shift nurse). Put all the windows down, opened the moonroof and tailgate window, and enjoyed some Daft Punk and the 75ºF weather.

Hey Quentin! Tonight I rode 12.9 miles of singletrack with the last few miles in almost dark. Loaded the bike up on the 4Runner and met my wife at a local drive in and had dinner in the truck! Great cheeseburgers, great company after a great ride. We had all windows down and sunroof open for a open air dining experience lol. Starting to get my legs back after last year's accident but still have a long way to go.

Last night we went to the dealer and drove home with our new 2012 4Runner Trail Edition!! Not waisting any time, I installed my first "family" mod....

Nice! I rode 8 miles of singletrack yesterday before my little run out to the wife.

Have you ridden at the Summit Bechtel Reserve around the New River?

Awesome Mountain Biking Trails | Summit Bechtel Reserve | Boy Scouts | West Virginia - YouTube

I have a few coworkers that rode down there and they said it was a blast. Maybe we have a mini-4Runner meetup in May? I'm over my bike-induced broken ribs.

Installed carbon fiber 3M wrap to my Baja Rack fairing and to the horizontal front grille piece. Looks really good, but I did a crappy job at installing since it was my first attempt at the 3M thing. Don't have pics because I dropped my digital camera into a creek on the marsh on Sunday. :dammit:

Also, tirelessly researched these forums about the possibly of me getting an icon lift and putting 285s on my sr5 rims and trying to figure out if I do this if my UCAs will be too close to my sidewalls...and if the icon suspension with 285 Duratracs will ride better/smoother than the xreas suspension with my current 275 E-rated BFGs...
