What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!

Needed to get out for a while after work today. Did some soft-roading up to Santiago Peak. That trail has gotten a lot worse since the last time I was on it. Took the short way up the front via Maple Spring Road.

yes it is quite bumpy.. Took my wife out there a month ago when she was 6 months prego, was fun.. but lots of loose rocks and dust galore.

how does one go about the short way?

I don't remember it being that rocky last time. Maybe I just forgot...who knows. The way I have gone up there in the past has been to go East on the Ortega almost to where it starts going back down the other side of the hill into Riverside County. You make a left on El Cariso Way. El Cariso turns to the left but if you go straight it turns into Forest Road 3S04 (Main Divide Road). I would take that all the way up to the peak and chill out for a bit down on that flat overlook area up there if you go down between the antennas (33.708961,-117.535035). Then I would head back down Maple Springs into Santiago Canyon to go home. This route takes a long time. Longer than I had this evening.

The way I took today, because of time restraints, was just to go straight up Maple Springs and return the same way. I thought about taking the Harding Truck Trail up, but it has been a long time since I have been on that trail, and not knowing what it was going to be like, I opted to take the safer route as a I was solo, with only 3 hours of daylight left when I departed.

Annual detail: Griots car wash, Griots Machine Polish #3 (applied using Griots 6'' Random Orbital), car wash again (to remove any polishing dust), paint cleaned with Klasse AIO, waxed using "Collnite sandwich" technic: coat of Collnite 845, coat of Collnite 476S.

Me and the 'Runner went crabbin' today. They aren't quite running yet this far up the bay, but what is here is pretty darn nice!

Solid 7 1/2", and I caught 4 this size; 3 hrs- 2 dozen total. You folks out West just don't know what you're missing!

Went camping with the family at North South Lake in the Catskills this weekend.
Rented a boat, hiked a couple of trails, & had a blast!
First time the kids and wife went camping. They cant wait to go again!
My Yakima Megawarrior held up great with all the cr@p (extra stuff) my wife brought along (thought we were going to need)....The parenthesis editing has been "wifey approved"...lol

LOL @ the video. I never realized that kids have such a hard time closing the lift gate. Not sure if that's a good thing or bad thing.

BTW - do you have a map to that beach you were at? Central CA?

SF Bay Area, just north of Santa Cruz..Kinda north-central cal.
We spent the night at Butano St Park, and we surfed Pigeon Point, which is the lighthouse in the pic. There was some south swell, but the wind was up or we probably would have surfed Waddell Creek or Greyhound Rock.

Compared to my old Mazda wagon, I couldn't believe how much cargo the new truck swallowed!! :wow:

Received last minute invite to climb St. Helens... Probably should have prepared a bit better for it, but was asked on Saturday to join and climb was yesterday. Parked the 4Runner at Climbers Bivouac Monday night, pulling the new tent/trailer, and started up Tuesday at 6:30AM. Took about 8 hours total. Best part was glassiding down.

Awesome! Are you able to get up without too much ice gear (crampons etc) or are you sticking to the snow and ice for traction? The surface looks very loose.
