What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!

It doesn't work that well in these real cold temps... my passenger side still freezes up and won't wipe it clean.

I have never actually had an issue with my wipers sticking to the windshield after snow and/or way-below-freezing temps. I haven't had to use the wiper defroster, either, though. I'm sure there are other factors that have led to your experiences vs. mine, I just don't know what they could be.

The wiper defroster only "unsticks" your wiper blade from the windshield and maybe melts a bit of the ice off the blade itself. It isn't cleaning too well probably because the arm has ice in it. Try just flexing it a few times to get a bit of the ice out.

Same here. Before driving I snap the wipers but the passenger blade just has a tough time not freezing for whatever reason.

I dunno if it was just because it was cold as heck last night, but while I was flexing one of the arms (to clean off the ice), for some reason it felt really really frozen solid, I was afraid I'd snap the entire arm off instead of just the ice, lol.

BTW, also kind of off topic, but either of you ever experienced your rear wiper just stick in the downward position (pointing straight down) for a few seconds? The first time I tried to activate it last night it swung down pretty smoothly and just stopped...the squirter in the rear was working fine but the blade stayed still in the down position. After less than 30 seconds, it started to work fine again and for the rest of the night. At first I thought it might've been ice under the spoiler, but then when I got off the road later to check the spoiler it was clean and clear as can be :noidea:

It wasn't even that cold last night (10 F or so), I guess this truck is not meant for inclement weather!

Zipped right through 10"+ of unplowed snow like nobody's business. It's a great feeling to pull up to a supermarket and be the only one there instead of the usual clusterfawk before a snowstorm :becky:

Hmm, mine has been fine right down to I think -35C. Once it hits a certain air temp external stuff like wipers are going to have trouble no matter what, especially if they freeze, thaw, then freeze again like when my side mirror cracked. Are you sure that with the rear wiper you didn't have it on the interval setting? It wipes a few times then sits in the down position, then back up. I accidentally switch it to that all the time.

Once it hits a certain air temp external stuff like wipers are going to have trouble no matter what, especially if they freeze, thaw, then freeze again like when my side mirror cracked. Are you sure that with the rear wiper you didn't have it on the interval setting? It wipes a few times then sits in the down position, then back up. I accidentally switch it to that all the time.

the wiper was literally pointing straight down (not like how it rests in the rest position a few inches below the spoiler), so I don't think it was on an interval setting right?

I don't think it was the rear window down indicator tripping anything either because while it was stuck down, the squirter was able to squirt. Not really sure if it was even temperature related to be honest, the swing motion was pretty smooth when it swung down and got stuck, and once it started working it seemed to continue just fine as well.

On the snapping of the blade: yeah, sometimes I snap it and there still seems to be build-up of ice and the wiper still streaks.... Again it only seems to be the passenger wiper.

As for the rear, no I haven't experienced that at all but your hypothesis could make sense. I have experienced very brief hesitation on the front wipers from time to time though.

Yeah I used a 2gb USB and reformatted to FAT32 like it said but still no dice.

yeah i renamed but it made the b capitol, not sure how that affects it and I see others on Toyota nation that had the same naming issue. I don't know if that prevented them from the upgrade too or not.

Nope, mine capitalized the "b" also and it worked fine. Used a brand new 16Gb stick, re-formatted to FAT32 and named it 13b. Make sure all you have on the stick is the ISO file and the .txt file.

Well 3 times a charm, I just down loaded it on to my work laptop and re-formatted the USB yet again and it finally took.

Let's see, today I waited in 23 degree weather for 45 minutes for the DMV to open up so I could pay $850 to the great state of Colorado to have my 4R registered. Good thing I love her or I would have to put her down on how much she's costing me so far.
