well...the saga is almost over...what an adventure for sure.


It was a beautiful day..about 40, with a constant rain, and about a 25 mph wind blowing all day.....hey!...I found a new use for all that cardboard!! (only way I could keep any heat in)

Just have to snap the front fascia on..big thanks to [MENTION=68685]Ducmonsta[/MENTION] again for all his tips!

Took it for a test ride and will definitely have to adjust driving and remember theres additional 18" in the front now...I was really surprised, you can see anything!

Almost met my maker...

So yea... this past Saturday I got clipped by a commercial landscaping truck. This was right before heading to Borrego for "The Excursion". Kept the door touching my back since I was parked near a busy street and loading. All the sudden, I hear; whoosh, crack and then bam! - my door swings fully open, swings back and hits me! Realized what happened and immediately scoped the license plate number.

Anyways, I feel like I cheated death by a matter of inches. Lucky or protected? I say the latter.





On a side note, the hinges held up really well. There are no type of misalignment issues and the door shuts, seals and locks like nothing ever happened. Thank you, Toyota, for this quality product.

If it wasn't so amped to hit Borrego, I'm sure I would've been salty the whole day. It could have been way worse. The door is a replaceable item and I'm home with the wife and kids... The funny this is everything that has happened after has been perfect. He sure works in mysterious ways

Installed an ARB front bumper... was a bit of a pain in the **s to do - just ask [MENTION=47340]Titanpat57[/MENTION]

In case you're wondering...ignore the space under the wind fairing...getting ready for light bar placement. (you can see the blue tape where the tabs need to go [MENTION=68079]drabbits[/MENTION])

Likewise! What did you end up doing with your front skid since there was nowhere for it to attach on my rig...ended up just sandwiching it between the RCI skid and frame. Also had to buy some bolts...even though I was left with a ton...and don't get me started on the whole washers debacle...I ended up just adding locktite to everything as some of the lock washers were spreading once torqued to spec.

Man, what did you guys do? Them ARB bumpers shore are big and ugly. I won't mention that me and a buddy did my bumper, winch, and suspension upgrade all in one day.

Couple things I'll mention from my own experience after having it on almost a year. When you're brushing snow off the truck make sure you get any that's on the headlight light hoop especially at night. I don't notice the headlight reflection off the hoop, but if it's covered in snow I do. When you're driving down a bumpy road you'll really notice it's body on frame because the headlight hoop will be bouncing differently than your hood. Don't worry, you stop noticing it after a while. The extra weight on the front will also make it a lot easier to drift the truck in the winter for tons of fun. Your inner Ken Block will thank you.

It looks soooo much better when you don't follow the directions for cutting the factory bumper.

There were multiple different lock washers. If you don't pay particular attention to which ones, too big of a washer will spread. I'm sure you guys came across the slightly different length bolts too. Some were only 3-5 mm diff.

And for the record, DRL will not light up with the parking brake engaged.

LOL...I only had myself and some blue painter's tape...came together though.

Ugh, forgot to mention one other thing to you and [MENTION=47340]Titanpat57[/MENTION] that I learned recently. The signal light housings are pretty mickey mouse and water will get in them and short the bulbs. Get some good replacement bulbs (same as the stock bulb 1157A I think) put those in, then when you put the housing back together run a bead of silicon around the gap. Also wrap some tape around the wires where they go into the housing. Not sure if I got water in mine from a water crossing or just from the car wash, but either way my original turn signal bulbs didn't even last a year.

I used the smallest washers for the specific bolt size and it still spread. Trust me...I tried all sort of stuff and then just lathered on the loctite :wink2:

Not all bolts had this issue. The best bolts were the pre-set one's with washer/locks on them already.

And for the record I didn't have that many differences in the bolt lengths for the same size bolt - it was odd. They really need to put a picture of each bolt with the description. Not that you couldn't find the bolt but it takes the guessing out of the equation.

Don't panic when you don't end up using a lot of the bolts, nuts, washers, etc. One thing is there are a bunch of copper/brass coloured clip-on sort of captured nuts (if I wasn't at work I'd take a pic of one for you but [MENTION=68685]Ducmonsta[/MENTION] might have one handy or at least know what they're actually called) to bolt the three bottom skids in place. Keep those handy as the clips eventually bend out of shape. I've already had to replace a few of them now and soon I'll have to try to find more of them.

I confirmed the M6 x 1.0 cage nuts used for rack mounts work I had to use one and they are exactly what are being used. Just search for M6 cage nuts on the interwebz...

I just added a set of rigid dually's, when I pulled the wiring through that bastard firewall grommet I had engaged the park brake. When I went to test everything out... no DRL!

WTF I thought, with a bit of what-did-I-do-wrong stress building up, I searched the good ole interwebz. It brought me a to thread here, of all places with similar situation. The last post? Says exactly as you state, park brake.

What a relief, thanks again T4R and company I was not looking forward to chasing something through that wire trunk that goes through the firewall.

Had a a busy weekend

Got the passenger side window re-tinted Friday so now thats done .

Saturday took the family up in the mountain for some messing around trying to get to Elk Horn lake up the north fork of the Santiam about 20 miles east a Salem. No go got into the snow about 6-12 inches and got scared when i had to go down hill to the lake. we were by ourselves about 9 miles from the main road and didn't have any recovery gear with us. better safe than sorry. found some nice waterfalls

Busy weekend for everyone

Finish with first 5k check, cleaned (yeah, yeah, I figure the insides only get washed every six months) and rotated tires, still need to grease a few spots.

Who would have thought the inside of the wheel could be that clean :shocked::der:

I attempted to install my Budbuilt Hidden Winch mount. It was a little slow going (no freakin' instructions!). It really took a turn for the worse when I over -torqued the nuts holding the aluminum bumper on (had it set to 100ft-lbs....seemed reasonable for a bumper) and sheared-off a couple of the bolts. Had to drill the bolts out and weld new ones on. Now I'm not even sure it's strong enough to use the winch :frusty:

Also. Played around with the rollers and can't quite get them to fit through the lower grill without some trimming. It's still not fitting quite right, but I had to call it a day after about 7hrs of fumbling. INSTRUCTIONS SURE WOULD BE NICE, BUD!
