What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!

put in some HIDs in the lows an some PNP LEds in the fogs
the low beam kit was a generic kit Nothing directly plugged into the OEM connections. The whole install for 3 hours +-. I had a all the parts and shrink wrap tape and connectors.
luckily im really good and soldering and splicing. THe outcome was clean and the difference is great. I may aim them down a tad if I start getting flashed.
cut off goodly weather tight connections to swueexe the OEM lamp in the factory cover location.
All fits tight

Today I mounted the gas can brackets I made for my rack this weekend. They work great, hopefully the cans work as well...

Went over to firestone and purchased a lifetime alignment. Got my caster back into spec after I rebuilt my UCA's.

You can get the fuel at Walmart, Dicks, Bass Pro, etc.

The gas canisters also come in two sizes, the small is perfect for backpacking, while the large is handy if you are car camping or anything else. Those little stoves are outstanding, I've taken mine snow camping at high altitudes a number of times and it does such a good job.

Wow. I feel like an idiot. I'll admit. This is the first mod I've done where I felt I was over my head. I'm no mechanic, but I'm pretty good at following instructions....I should have known better than to even try it. I definitely would not do his again. Taking it to a body shop tomorrow to have the pros fix my screw-up.

Don't beat yourself up, I was surprised to read your mishap. I was curious too, which is why I looked it up. I thought it was odd and it actually makes me wonder if it is indeed a good idea to bolt a winch on that thing after seeing this. I know straight pull strength is much greater than shear but I am no engineer. [MENTION=66316]1engineer[/MENTION]
Which brings me too and even more critical question, has this thing (budbuilt hidden winch plate) been seriously tested at all? I only assumed it had been to some extent because of the price, that maybe this thing is rated. I see people bolt them on has anyone done any serious pulling with it? I am definitely now having second thoughts.

Sorry man, I laughed when I read this because you are NOT alone assuming torque spec should be higher for something like this. I did a write up here http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/95630-broken-stretched-lug-stud-issue-solved.html (post 11 starts) about torque and lug nuts but it applies to all mechanical fasteners.
You didn't happen to squirt some WD40 on those bolts before you tightened them did you? If you did shame, shame! Just kidding.
[MENTION=8206]harper7[/MENTION] is running the hidden mount and he has probably used it. He would be a great judge on strength so you guys should pm him to ask. Anyway, if you want to learn a little about torque read the link and enjoy!

I use it to clean the crap off/out of those nifty little electrical connectors on the back of my brakes. Is that bad? Usually a squirt or three in pockets where dirt tends to build up seems to make it easier to clean off. *strictly unscientifically unproven

Hmmm, LOL why in the f##k should I or anyone else pay money to do R&D on something? :doh: Like I want to tear the front end off because of a failure. That makes no sense what-so-ever. Just asking if anyone has done hard pulls on it or if it was tested under heavy loads. That's all.
If, on the other hand, I was given a unit with the express intent to test it then that is a different story.
Of course, you should always spool under enough load that you won't bury your line under bottom layers when you do winch under heavy load. Winching 101. What does this have to do with pulling the front end off of the truck?

Aren't most aftermarket steel bumpers also bolted on at the same bolts as the BB winch plate? Which would me it's roughly about the same strength as a winch mounted on a steel bumper?
Or do the steel bumpers have additional reinforcements to the frame? I am not sure, I never really looked into installing one before.
One thing that does come to mind is I think the CURT front receiver is rated at ~9000 lbs line pull and they bolt to a few of the same bolts as the BB plate. BUT the front receiver also ties into the front recovery hooks, so that's probably distributing the forces :noidea:
