What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!

Last Monday night I drove out to a place near Campo, CA to photograph the Campo Creek Viaduct. This is a large,
steel railroad trestle that crosses old highway 94. It was built by the San Diego & Arizona Railway and was
completed in 1917.

I got a few photos of the bridge from below, and also shot some time-lapse video with the bridge silhouetted against the night sky.

Then I found a trail that took me up into the hills near the tracks, and camped out just a short distance from the bridge. In the morning I got up early so I could shoot some pics and video right after sunrise, the "golden hour" for photography. Got a couple pics of myself with the bridge, too.

If you live in California you will have to change the registration to CA plates. When you do that CA will hit you with the sales tax. You'll pay CA sales tax based on the MSRP, the estimated value or a sales receipt.

Sorry CA residents. We pay higher taxes for living in the best state in the US. :bluejump:

I made it 2 years in CA driving around on FL plates and was never once questioned about it. Just have the dealership plate it in that state & get insurance in that state. Just never file an insurance claim....

Yep! In person its steep as hell and the ruts were a momentum killer for sure, it was hard trying to maintain traction at best. I was in a off road park so its been beat up

There were big rut to the left and a rock to the right, it was almost impossible trying to stay out of the rut which kinda highlighted the need for a front locker as the drivers side wheel was stationary everytime by that point. I took the line over the rock and failed miserably (butt pucker moment bouncing at 39 degrees looking at the sky)

I'm still learning so I have some better tactics to try next time, 3 attempts was my cut off, didn't fancy death rolling :flame: Next time I'll put it in sport to hold a gear and allow the steering to move a little more and find traction.

I went back and forth quite a bit trying to decide between the two. I don't think the 6112's are valved correctly for such a heavy spring. I think it would have been to much spring anyhow as my ride height is above where I started (before adding weight)with same spring perch setting. Was not looking to have too harsh of ride or lose flex off-road by having too heavy a spring. This works for me at 650#.

What did this route cost? I want to make the ride a little more firm and add some height. I also have KDSS and so the rear lift height is pretty limited.
Do you have the same rake (1.5" difference) or are you level now?

Heres a very cheap attempt of turning my beefy limited rocker panels to trail by plastidipping it. It's more of an illusion but I'm digging the look for now until I can save up for the real thing. Got other mods prioritized higher. I don't know how long the plastip will hold up but hopefully I can touch it up.

Springs were 179.00 from Wheelers, I installed myself. Sits pretty much level now.

Bumper is a one off custom build (local guy in Huntington Beach built it for me)...went more of a "pre-runner" style route since it appears most of the pre-fab bumpers seem over-built and heavy.

2 hours-ish at a non-break neck pace while watching movie playing in my garage.

I like that! You trimmed off all the stuff I've already scratched.

I purchased the Carista dongle off Amazon and was able to program my 4Runner the way I want it... most important being the ability to lower the windows in the summer from my key fob without first starting the truck! I was also able to turn off the seatbelt warning beeps, which is nice for low speed driving.

Nope, not through Carista. Just the "bend the pin" method, or leave all lights off on the turn-signal stalk.
