Ok, so I did a thing this weekend. I bought a T8 Android headunit from a forum member (PatrickBateman) for a price that I couldn't pass up even if the thing was pure junk. I am happy to report that I am absolutely thrilled with the headunit!!!

There are a plenty of people that had negative experiences with these or scoffed at the hardware limitations. I, however, use my headunit as, well, a headunit. It handles anything I would do (listen to the radio, play Pandora, Bluetooth audio from phone, GPS, and even watch movies). I cant imagine 32Gigs of internal storage plus the ability to feed from the usb another 500Gigs being deemed inadequate for really anyone but whatever. I don't multitask on my headunit beyond audio and GPS and 2Gigs of RAM is more than adequate. I have stored 8Gigs of music and a couple movies just for kicks.

I like that I can change the background wallpaper to that of my choosing and download other apps that might be occasional fun, like TorquePro. This particular frame is matte black which I am also very happy about since IM not a fan of that painted silver nonsense everywhere.

I do have a few qualms, albeit minor but annoying. I cannot FOR THE LIFE OF ME figure out how to get my music files to play in the default radio player(pink music note)!! Not sure where to save them so they will be viewable by the player. I had to download an app to play them. Secondly, the units do not have an accelerometer so neat functions in Torque like pitch/roll, which would be fun offroad, don't work. Expandable storage via SD card would be nice in lieu of using the USB port. Apparently the mic(internal and external) are junk for voice calls but I never use that function anyway.

I didn't bother taking pics of the install since its very plug and play and well documented already on Trail4Runner.com. Safe to say it was just as easy you've heard. All in all I can completely satisfied with this project and its capabilities and certainly the aesthetic aspects of the new unit.

Any issues with it so far? Is it laggy or good response from the screen?

The only thing that is a smidge longer than I'd expect is the initial startup. By the time I start the car, futz with the seatbelt and back out of the garage everything is up a running. Its just not instant on radio like an OEM headunit.

Once operational everything seems to run just fine. I am rather OCD and I do clear out any apps from sitting idle in the background. Whether that keeps things smooth or not I don't know I just don't want them there if they aren't actively being used.

I run offline GPS maps (my phone hotspot doesn't work yet) and I run the radio/player simultaneously with zero issue. I have run Amazon Prime video while driving (just to test really) and had no issues there either.

Again, I'm not sure what most people do on these things that would cause the performance to be a hindrance. Maybe I'm just old but I don't FB, IG, or YouTube from my car headunit because *DRIVING!* Or maybe I just haven't found a power hungry app that I just HAD TO HAVE. For all the things a normal stereo is designed for it has functioned flawlessly.

Would I pay $600 for what it does? Probably not, I'm just not that guy anymore. But for the right price it is a fantastic piece of kit. :clap2:

It looks like the one I bought isn't available anymore.
Here is a comparable one. Looks almost exactly the same. I paid $400 and this one is $25 more with the coupon.

With no lift on my vehicle, they’re at an awkward height to use as a step. Perfect for my 7 year old kid though hopping in and out. I’d say their secondary job would be a step. It’s just so close to height of floorboards, it’s not natural. On the same note, they are awesome for standing on to reach top of vehicle, Yakima skybox, etc. They’re really wide which I like. Shopping cart and door stoppers as well. (In parking lots)
I still love the design and the look. Crazy solid, and man those dudes put down some gorgeous welds. They don’t flex when standing on or using them to jack vehicle up. They act as an extension of frame. One of the guys walked me through the shop after I picked them up in person. Super nice group of dudes that do excellent work. Ordered some wiring relays, switches, etc to get the lights hooked up soon.

Gents thank you for the help. Installed the tranny and transfer case plates incorrectly. Blaming it on late night and too many beers. Swapped everything around in 10 min and no more weird rattle. I think the transfer plate was too close to the exhaust pipe. Owe Mrblah and sn_85a couple rounds...

Swapped out my KO2's (275/70r17) for Falken Wildpeak A/T 3W's (255/80r17)


Up to 33" and that's as far as I go!


Didn't have a spanner wrench, so had to leave the Fox's at 2", but will bring up to 2.75" next week.

You are right, they are pretty close. The 255’s are about .25” taller and the 285’s are 6 lbs heavier and 1.25” wider.

I read many good things about the skinnier tires and wanted to see for myself. So far (only a few miles), they are a litter quieter (highway) than the 275’s, otherwise on the road, feel similar.

Happy to update after I get more experience with them.
