That is interesting that the DRLs with the anti flicker were still too bright.
I thought the CANBUS should have reduced the output for DRL use.
Hi All, I know this might not the be the place.. I just got back from family road trip and check engine light + trac + multi-terrain came on, thought it was gas cap but nope.. Found out today my poor 2017 4Runner leaked all the oil out due to bad oil change the dealership did... Oil leaked thru the filter gasket. They are currently cleaning up the spill and refilling. I am not sure what kinda damage the engine might have sustained. Plus this is the 2nd year so end of Toyota Care beginning of Toyota Don't Care..
Any one know how to deal with this situation??? Most likely they will give me the car running, all lights normal,, etcc.. but what about possible damages?? i am all on my own.. Car only got 21k Miles....:mad2::mad2::mad2::mad2:

So jealous. I really miss living in snow (I'm originally from CO) so I have to get out and find the snow to cure that itch every now and then.
Define "all the oil"? Did the oil light come on before the other lights came on? If you drove any considerable distance your engine is probably roasted. Did you drive to the dealership with no oil? Personally I'd take it to another Toyota shop after it's filled with oil, not another dealer but an independant Toyota/Lexus shop and have them check the stored codes and check out the engine with a borescope, compression test and whatever else. Then start researching lawyers. And how to do your own oil changes.

4Runner does not use CANBUS for the DRL, only PWM (pulse width modulation). CANBUS will let the car ECU know when a bulb isn't working, but the current 4Runner is "dumb" in this aspect. Since LEDs are instantaneous on/off, the pulses just allow the LED to flicker on and off rapidly at full brightness (instead of glowing dimly, as a halogen bulb would).
Xenon Depot also sells a DRL module for the 9005 kit, allowing you to dim the lights in DRL mode as normal. I had it on my truck until I switched all of my stock lighting back to halogen bulbs.

This is why the dealer will never see my Runner unless it's a warranty issue. I hope there isn't damage to the engine. How long did you drive it with all the warning lights on?

I’m originally from the SF Bay Area. Had to learn snow drivin’ really quick. Two of the last three years, I’ve had to call for driveway snow removal just to get out to the un-plowed road. LOL! Oh, did I mention that I’m too freakin’ old for this shit! HAH!

Visited the old Sheldon Church ruins outside of Beaufort, as well as Hunting Island State Park:
Fairly certain that no oil pressure would have lit up a blinding red light on the dash not all the rest of those idiot lights as they are referred to. The dealer told you the engine had lost 'all the oil' or you pulled the measurement and found nothing? If the warning lights came on as you pulled into the driveway then perhaps isn't too concerning. Depends on the circumstances here... running it without or very little oil for any extended period will certainly warrant looking closer at the top and bottom end of the motor by someone who knows what they are looking at. Obviously there has been no catastrophic damage but there may be signs, cause for concerns in the long term reliability of the motor now.

Thanks repo.... I got my car last night they cleaned up all the mess and refilled oil. I will pay closer attention next few weeks make sure there is nothing weird...
I do my own oil changes on my other cars, but because the new 4Runner got the 2year Toyota Care i thought it was good idea to use it.. boy I was so wrong...
Very good point,, the oil light never came on. It never even crossed my mind to check the oil level. I only put 200miles since last oil change. We drove about 600 miles on the weekend and it happen when my wife was driving while i was taking a nap.. She freaked me out. So for now almost certain it was just a big scare and no major damage. What a way to wrap up a holiday weekend...
The cleaned up the mess yesterday. Will pay closer attention next couple of weeks.
I AGREE!!! Free oil change almost cost the car motor....Same reason I hate going to the doctor, every time I go there I got all these issues....:ybrick:
