What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!

Just brought her home from the dealership, well, yesterday actually. It seems that it takes quite a bit of pressing down the accelerator pedal before the acceleration rate gets to be anything decent. I've never experienced this with other vehicles that are more underpowered than this. Is this common with the 5th generation? I see many threads and videos about devices that can be installed to remap the throttle response. Maybe that is what is needed. I mean it does get up to highway speeds when entering from almost a stop on an entrance ramp but you really have to press down on it.

Doesn't change the power, but definitely changes the feel, and it's night and day. I have a Sprint Booster and love it. Driven a rental/Turo 4Runner with a Pedal Commander and it felt similar. They all work similarly and brand probably matters little...

Over the long weekend cleaned up the connections and put in a new battery, DieHard Platinum AGM 24F.

Only have a few additional connections (for now) lightbar, ditch lights, rear lights and BlueSea volt meter.
Plan is to top it off monthly w a maintainer for maximum longevity (not going to do a fuse update)

Had a DieHard Platinum in my FJ years ago and was still going strong year 4 when I sold it. So hope to get a good life out of this one.
As I was returning the stock Panasonic for core refund which I did feel bad about letting go but it was issue free for 6.5 years there was another DH on the table for core return that was 7 years old.

Noticed a slightly snappier start in the mornings.
Also noticed a little rust spot somewhere where I wouldn't have thought to look. 4R has been Woolwaxed and FluidFilmed in every nook and cranny since day one so took care of this spot also. Not a big deal but hate to even see a pin head of it.

Put in the Canvasback liner for the rear seats/cargo area, swapped the reverse bulbs for the LASFIT 921 6000k's, and did Xpel PPF on the front and sides, and ceramic on the top and back after removing the roof rack and side steps for good.

replaced rear wiper motor, didn't even bother trying to reuse the old plastic wiper arm. just buy a new one, you will break that plastic from the inserted piece that goes onto the motor splines when you try and remove it (can confirm from experience lol).

also interestingly the wiper arm comes factory without female splines. the female splines get etched into the new wiper arm when it's tightened down. didn't know that. also I torqued the wiper arm nut to somewhere between 15ft and 18ft lbs because I couldnt find torque spec. set my torque wrench to 18ft lbs after going to 15ft lbs and I was concerned I was going to break the stud or strip the nut so I stopped. seems to hold just fine at 15ft lbs. the wiper motor bolts will likely be pretty rusted into the capture nut, I sprayed those bolts/nuts 1 week prior and then 10 minutes prior to working. came out no problem

I am surprised living in washington with winter weather and road salt that you found that old of a vehicle in that nice of condition. anytime I see those old style pickups they are beat up, full of rust, held up by zip ties and being used as a farm truck or just parked with 5 foot tall grass surrounding it. I saw one similar to that actually a few weeks ago but the entire top was removed like a convertible and the farmer was using it to haul apples lol

those 90s pickups are what pickups should be today. no frills and full of utility

Oddly enough, they don't use much road salt here. Most of our snow is in the mountain. I might see snow in my yard once a year. This truck in particular spent most of hits life in south western Oregon.

Swapped out my TRD Pro muffler finally. Went with the OEM 4R muffler. So nice and quiet now! Should have done this sooner for sure ...

Installed a Body Armor 4x4 rear bumper on saturday. Also installed the hood vinyl decal to reduce that annoying glare from the sun. Rear end only dropped 1/2 inch despite the bumper weighing like 160lbs. Pretty stoked with the new look and the added functionality!

Everyone that knows me knows I'm 4Runner... Got my first new one in 1999. 25 years later, I'm driving a 2018 beauty and I find out politics invaded my loyalty. I won't post it here- you can find out the sordid details, but Toyota decided they wanted to act like a lite beer and throw money into an area I wish they'd stayed out of. Not much I can do other than share my unhappiness and maybe take the emblems off until they knock it off. A Ford friend of mine said, take a look at the Raptor! Turns out Ford was going down the same street as Toyota, but public pressure made them back out of this politics. Yo, Toy, Figure it out.:twitch:

I replaced my front pads and rotors over the weekend. While I was working on that I noticed that both front Eibach shocks are leaking so I suppose I'll have to take care of that next.

Some of the work y’all are doing to your T4R is pretty cool to follow along - can’t wait to do some of it myself when the time comes. That may be a while though because of what I just did to my 5th gen…just brought it home for the first time. New ‘24 TRD ORP. I have put about 40 miles on it in the last 24 hours, so she’s up to 50 on the odometer now.

Gotta love the red accent with the all black, looking good!
