What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Finished up both rear axle seals & bearing which required considerable work to the rear brakes as well. The rear brakes got new shoes, hardware, wheel cylinders and functioning E-brakes (probably been dead for years). The right E-brake bellcrank was so corroded it took me an hour to seperate it and clean it up. After grinding off the rust, I gave the bellcrank a nice black paint coating and a liberal amount of marine grease before putting back together. Its nice to have all that done and working again.

Moved on to greese the U-joints and slip joints with 2 types of grease. The slip joints would not purge the old grease, but as I drive it, i'm seeing it start to weep out. So next week it'll get some more until what comes out is new.

Lastly, I put a cable lock that secures to the trailer hitch around my spare tire. At least I know it will be there when I need it.

NEXT WEEK: it'll get a Cat Clamp to stave off any would be thieves looking for a quick buck. Also, a new set of TACO ball joints and outer tie rod ends which because of the immediate need to fix the leaking axles had to be postponed. I'll just be working my way from back to front until its safe for my family to drive.

Reminded me to do mine, been waiting for a warmer weekend. Also have a steering rack kit laying around but feel like that might be more of a task.

Installed my Scan Gauge II today. LOVE this thing ! Didn't get to play with it much but hopefully I get LOTS of use out of it to save some fuel. Prices are getting out of hand.

Also replaced a cracked passenger rear tail light, it was filling with water. Got a good deal from a junk yard. The guy even threw in the dash clock because he was sure it wasn't going to work. Plugged it in and works great ! Not bad for free when the dealer wants $250 for a new one.

Oh and I replaced the A/C switch on the console. Got that from the dealer for a steal.

And on a side note : I priced the cargo cover for my 99 4runner while I was at the dealer. When I bought it, it was missing and I thought it would be nice to have till a got a new alarm installed and new tint. The parts guy checked the price 3 times and nearly fell out of his chair...$600. :jaw drop: And the sad thing is the newer models, 2000+ I think he said, only ran $250 new.

Didn't get a chance to work on any mods.... too much slow fell this weekend!

Shot of me standing next to a bank left in front of my neighbor's driveway, I'm just under 6 feet tall:

Shot of the neighbor's kid sitting on the roof of the shed....the snow bank is just as high as the roof line on this shed!

Can't wait for spring to come! I'm sick of winter! Might be working on something for the 4Runner on Tuesday..... :hungry:

Looks clean. I like how you ran the cord behind the dash Bezel. Nice leds too. Where'd you get them? I got a kit from so_led but they didn't include the front parking lights.

I got the LEDs from a shop in Portland, OR. I live about 30 miles north in Wash state. I wanted to do the full truck ( tail, blinkers and back up lights ) but, the guy didn't have any in stock. It was $45 for the front markers, license plate lights, map lights and front and rear dome lights.

These guys get a lot of good reviews from the posts I've seen on Toyota forums I'm a part of. They are located in Wash state but FAR north of where I'm at. Hoping to make a trip up there and see if I can get the exterior bulbs done. At least the reverse lights, that way it's like having rear fog lights with as bright as the LEDs should be.

V-LEDS are good..... IF you want to pay the price for the higher end bulbs. I've used them for the reverse lights in my G37 and they are fantastic, but those were the high powered 7W LEDS which cost $60+ for one pair.

I just ordered some for the 4Runner but only got the standard 54LED (not high powered) and they are just OK. I did the turn signals, brake lights and reverse.

Brake lights are about the same, maybe just slightly brighter. Reverse lights are not near as bright as OEM, but the 5000K color looks good. The turn signals I got for the front were DOA.

They cost nearly 100 for all the bulbs so I am wondering if I should just return them and stay with incandescents. If it weren't for the DOA turn signals I might want to keep them even though the light output is not what I was expecting. I would get the high powered versions, but spending several hundred dollars just on a few lights bulbs for a 15 year old car just doesn't make sense to me.

I'm more interested in the high end reverse lights more than anything. And yah they are expensive. If I could have gotten lights from the guy here locally, I think the price would have been better. My biggest concern was my front markers which seem to blow out once a month with incandescent and dim light in the cab. Got that taken care of so I was just gonna upgrade to LEDs all the way around to save from blowing bulbs.

Got dirty today

being a sad 50 deg in a Montana winter made it very sloppy (Snow and MUD). drifts eventually got to big and had to turn around. a GPS and or Map would have been nice.
but then again didn't realize we would have gone as far as we did. kids even got bored cause they couldn't see out of there windows. oh well.
I had fun.

thought I would share.

and dont mind the re****ed CB antenna. that was one road trip and I haven't put on the new spring yet. lol

Finally got it back together and got the wheels/tires on it. I'm happy with the look for now. Need to do the full timing belt/water pump thing and probably going to replace the radiator while I'm at it.

It was a little dark for the phone camera when I finally rolled it out of the shop, but here it is.

I decided to add mini fog lights behind my grille, and new horns. Made new brackets for the existing horn mount holes to adapt the lights an moved the horns out to the radiator mounts. Love the finished look.
