Finished up both rear axle seals & bearing which required considerable work to the rear brakes as well. The rear brakes got new shoes, hardware, wheel cylinders and functioning E-brakes (probably been dead for years). The right E-brake bellcrank was so corroded it took me an hour to seperate it and clean it up. After grinding off the rust, I gave the bellcrank a nice black paint coating and a liberal amount of marine grease before putting back together. Its nice to have all that done and working again.
Moved on to greese the U-joints and slip joints with 2 types of grease. The slip joints would not purge the old grease, but as I drive it, i'm seeing it start to weep out. So next week it'll get some more until what comes out is new.
Lastly, I put a cable lock that secures to the trailer hitch around my spare tire. At least I know it will be there when I need it.
NEXT WEEK: it'll get a Cat Clamp to stave off any would be thieves looking for a quick buck. Also, a new set of TACO ball joints and outer tie rod ends which because of the immediate need to fix the leaking axles had to be postponed. I'll just be working my way from back to front until its safe for my family to drive.
