What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Added a few LED lights for turn signals between the ARB and headlights for a future mod. I want to add fog lights to the bumper and I think the factory turn signals will be in the way.

I really need to clean up the ARB!

Took my Runner to Adventure Offroad Fab in Littleton so he could measure out sliders for me. His Taco makes my 4Runner look tiny, can't wait to get the sliders on the Runner.

Replaced my inner and outer tie rods over the weekend. Had to saw the right outer tie rod from the inner to get the boot off because the nut was seized. Got the front end aligned and tire's correctly balanced yesterday. Truck drives perfectly now :thumb:

Can't say I've heard of them, but never hurts to have another potential place to have work done. Coincidentally, it led me to finding a place right down the road in Lafayette that does 4x4 van conversions that I could use for having stuff welded.

I stopped in to the Toytec shop yesterday and picked up the last odds and ends for my lift install this weekend.

Well really I did it last night but I figured out that my thrust washers were really about 10 thousandths too thick for my Aussie to go together properly. I also learned that these thrust washers are a seriously hardened compound and you'd be sanding for 10 years to remove the excess materials. You can't see it in the top pic but if yo haven't had your front diff apart before the thrust washers sit behind those side gears in the top pic.

According to Aussie, I learned I'm one of the lucky ones that has a front diff cage that's slightly out of tolerance. Soooo now my diff waits for new thrust washers or I can take mine to a machine shop and have some material removed. Turns out the easy part of the install was getting the diff out of the truck!

Thankfully, I really don't need my 4Run to be ready to go till summer because it's all snow up here in AK :thumb:

He is very active on TacomaWorld, he has never done 4Runner sliders before. I will post them up when I get them done. I am debating having him do my front bumper as well. He is doing sliders for another 4Runner guy on TW as well.

I put a silicone pad inside my upper glove box compartment, I usually keep a knife in there and this holds it nicely in place and prevents it from rattling around.
I got it for free with something I ordered off Amazon last year but the brand is Auto FX products, its meant to be put on the dash to keep you cell phone from sliding around.
It came for free with this Sun Shade I ordered the Sun Shade is okay for the price but not anything special its a little on the flimsy side:

My dad uses that same silicone pad in his vette to hold his radar detector. Short of going full throttle it holds it up there with no issues at all. Did not think it would actually work with a darn but it holds stuff surprisingly well.

The 7th shop I asked about rear bearings finally knew exactly what I needed and had the toyota puller tool (driveshaft specialist shop). I asked them to reverse the last retainer and leave it 1mm inboard like drcoffee's thread suggests for some insurance. Then I'll test fit and they said they can adjust it however I need.

I used 4 cans of brake cleaner on the drums and they still have baked on dirt/oil, it's hard to clean because of the rust. I might just buy some new Napa drums.

Because of the added flex, the driveshaft may touch the gas tank?!

First time I'm hearing this

With extended rear sway bar links I flex pretty hard into the rear tank skid. With the removed rear sway bar links just driving slightly quick though bumps can have my axle slam into take and it really hits hard when flexing all the way out. NTM the body roll is so bad that I had a lot more issues with the body rolling into rock and or trees near the edge of trails. Here is an example.

I wonder if your coils are too soft? I've had both sway bars gone for a long time now and do plenty of harsh flexing but excessive body roll has never been an issue.

Yes they are soft, but IMO is what you want for trail crawling. Allows the tires to stay planted. My buddy with OME coils just lifts tires all day and never has the issue because they just dont flex like LC coils.
