What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

The ball joint its self is fine, it mounts to the knuckle with 4 bolts, 2 of them snapped. In the picture you can see a replaced outer one and a missing inner. The only dammage iv surveyed so far is the bolts, but only time will tell. The cv popped out of the dif but i got i plugged back in so i could limp it home on 2 bolts.

So the LBJ itself didn't fail, just the bolts?

Curious if you'd ever replaced your LBJ's, I know blue Loctite is recommended. I replaced mine ~10k mi ago and was super careful about Loctite and torque spec for fear of a bolt backing itself out somehow. You've got me setting a reminder to check the torque.

If that's the only damage, I think you got out as lucky as you could. I'm sure everyone has seen the horror pics of failed LBJ's and whole front ends destroyed.

Wish I had some super-secret advice about sheared bolts... best of luck getting them out.

Bought new shoes for her - waiting on the text from Wally World - went with their in house model of Goodyear Wrangler Authority in 265/75/16.

Also experienced the fancy electronics try to kill me driving around in the snow here. Up next the Andy - Mod (been reading up) too bad the Jeep inspection was expired and stuck in the penalty box.

Not necessarily what I did, but whats coming. Made a few bucks plowing yesterday/today while the 4runner sat in a nice protected, warm-ish garage on the other side of town. Eastern Massachusetts was a nightmare yesterday with blizzard conditions. Snow means more upgrades for the 4runner though.

ended up securing some time on a lift at work to install my Kings and Camburg UCAs only to find out (after removing both old ball joints) that the driver side UCA bolt was seized up and wasn't going to come out. It also seems as if the upper control arm frame hole has been ovalized due to the problem and Ill have to instead get some of those weld on washers from Kar Tek in order to remedy the issue.

So...I headed to the shop with the intention of rolling home on some American made bada$$ery but instead rolled home on the old stuff along with two new Chinese upper ball joints......

Holding your soldering iron to the screw will soften the thread locker real quick.

That, in addition to your impact, will zip the screws right out.

The impact driver totally backed out the first one, but in classic "work on the car" fashion, there is always one item that doesn't go right, and tacks on several extra hours in what otherwise would have gone smoothly.

Previous dudehey stripped out the head of the other screw. Took forever to drill out the screw, screw extractor failed, keep drilling. Eventually got enough of that first screw drilled out that I was able to grab the remnants with small pliers.

That was easily a couple hours of swearing. :wtf: handsfree microphone!

Moving on.... Can now plug microphone in, and put the dash back together.

New rims, tires, and rear spacers

My truck got a significant upgrade from the stock 15" rims and the 4 mismatched tires it had on it. Worked some craigslist magic to make this happen on the cheap.

I was rubbing on the mud flaps so I pulled them off but that only gained about 3/16" and it was still rubbing so I cut 1" off the bottom of the bumper and reattached the mud flap . The clearance from the bottom of the bumper to the center of hub was 19 3/8" , with the mud flap removed it was 19 9/16", now with the mud flap back on it's 20 1/4" . So far no rubbing but it's close !

Finally got around to doing my rear axle seals, inner and outer, brake cylinder, shoes etc. worst part was getting the inner seal flush. Tomorrow will be bleeding the brakes!

Just ordered up some km2s from 4 wheel parts all 4 for $700 they pay shipping and throw in $50 gift card.
They were $100 cheaper than I could have gotten them from work wholesale so I couldn't pass up the deal

Installed the Christmas presents I got for my wife. New Pioneer head unit, all 4 door speakers and IR backup camera. Turned out very nice. Backup camera may save our not so bright dogs life some day...

Not a ton today, was reminded that the outside temp display stops at -30.

Did a CV on the weekend and pulled the timing cover to discover that surprise! That timing belt was never done 15,000km ago like I was told!

Must be axle seal season. I bought my parts on Friday and will be having them done soon.

I saw that, thanks for the part numbers! Just read through the last few pages of your build, my brakes hadn't started to lock up quite yet but I did fail inspection for contaminated brakes.

I really don't feel super comfortable driving in packed snow/ice as it is, that must've been a slow painstaking drive home for you. Glad everyone made it safely.

Finally got around to having a friend put on my sliders, couldn't be happier, I put them on flat to use as a step for the wife.
