Today my bro & I visited a local junkyard in search of an OEM alternator for my 2001. Fortunately, there was a '99 that had been wrecked and was there, so naturally I went straight to it. Found the alternator still in tact with the vehicle, unhook and unbolt everything and snag that bad boy. Pretty clean to be rather honest. No mud inside or any signs of potential harm done to it. Also scored a chrome grill with gold emblem with ALL the clips on it, none broken, except for half of one, but it didn't cause any issues. So I replaced my black bed lined, satoshi grill with the new chrome and gold one. I won't clutter this thread with photos, so here are only two. Alternator all cleaned up and in my Runner along with the new grill. Also to mention, I needed another alternator because the aftermarket remanufactured one that I had in place had a bad bearing inside of it, causing it to whine obnoxiously.

Rotated my Transmission Cooler and have it secured. Between my winch, that, horns, and my amber lights I want to put in there, I'm running out of space. Wonder if anyone's ever build a grill from scratch to give themselves more room????

Anyway, moving on. Went to finish stripping old wiring out and discovered my insulation under my carpet was wet (In front of driver seat). Lifted it up and saw this:

Got the pressure washer out and started to explore. One was that little plug. That was pretty easy to find, but that wouldn't explain most of the rust in the corner. So I removed the sound deadener and did some more.

Turns out, it was my own fault!!!! :mad2: There's a grommet up above in the firewall that I ran wires through for years for everything. It's gotten weak and now every time it rains or I wash it, water will come off the windshield, into the engine bay, down the firewall, and right into that grommet. It doesn't take much because that carpet insulation acts like a sponge and soaks it up forever.

So out comes the Air Grinder and the Vacuum. Got it all cleaned up with some Metal Prep as well. Very little cancer, still solid.

I'll let it dry overnight and hope my insulation is dry as well. I'll silicone the grommet and plug and keep an eye on everything. Hope those are the only two areas I'm leaking.

BTW: I did check my sunroof drain tube. It was dry and I hit it with the air compressor and watched dust come out the top. Felt air come out at the sun roof so that's not plugged or disconnected.

Yep. 395 has a lot of them. Tons of snow still holding up high. There's a flood watch in effect for the entire east side this week.

Couldn't find Fog Light Caps? I just pulled a pair off my old bumper before I threw it in the "to the dump" pile.

Awesome! Didn't think there were places to off-road in Japan. I lived in Kyushu for 10 years and never found the end of the pavement ahahahaha.

I see from your plates your the Hachinohe/Tohoku area. So I guess there must be a little more wilderness up that way.

Your rig looks great and glad to see there's a big group of fellow 4wheelers up that way. Was nothing but mall crawlers where I was living.

No fog light caps to be found. My Runner had 1 when I bought it, but I removed it because it looked funny with just one in and one out. I'd love to have OEM fogs, though. I'm wired for them, too.

Think most rust up now a days. Be a better idea to just get a bigger bumper. [emoji2]
Really though, few years back I was looking at them and I think Hella made a kit. General opinion was, was they weren't worth it though.

That's interesting. Like I said, if I were ever able to get my hands on OEM fogs, oh boy, game over! And I really do appreciate your kindness to send me those covers, but I'd say that someone else could probably use them more than I could. I'm not all that concerned about not having them.

I spent today shotgunning why mine wont start. Replaced the starter and starter relay without any luck. Checked all the fuses under the hood and inside. I have been studying the wiring diagram of the starting system but it's 105 here in Yuma today so I decided to call it this afternoon.

Since I was running temps of 203 avg and as high as 208.4. I thought I would put in a new Toyota thermostat and cap. I put the new cap on a few days ago and it did not make a difference.

Drained the coolant and I got about 2 gallons out, I was expecting about 1 to 1.5.


When i removed the thermostat housing the thermostat came out with it, and sure enough the jiggle valve (original) was at 12 position.

Everything else looke good so I buttoned up with the jiggle valve at 6 position. Went for a drive and the temps never got above 194.4
