I had an AHA moment while reading the 4runner reddit sub today and someone posted about replacing the fuel pump fixing random rough idle issues when the tank is less than half full. I've been having a problem with random shudders while idling after driving around. I was messing around with Torque lite earlier trying to see if it was the fuel trim or something like that but I couldn't replicate the issue and I had just filled up . There's no error codes and it drives fine. It didn't occur to me the fuel level could be making a difference, I'll make of note of fuel level next time I get the problem.
Should have replaced it when I did the fuel sender TSB of course.

Much needed maintenance, had the 4runner for about 3 months, did the oil a few weeks ago so today I got to the front and rear diff, x'fer case, tranny pan and coolant flush and new OEM thermo.
All fluids aside from the tranny were pretty nasty. Truck has 147kmiles on it. I think the new fluid in the rear diff corrected the little thud I'd get when letting go of brake. I greased the driveline a few weeks ago and that helped but didn't get it all gone. Tonight on my short drive it was non existent. So tomorrow when I really get it out I will really pay attention to see if it's gone.
Also the previous owner was using green coolant so I was glad to get that all flushed out, also they had a unknown brand thermostat in it. I installed the new OEM with the jiggle valve at the 6 position. Didn't use Toyota coolant, but put in the Zerek kind. Was always running about 205-207° before, in my drive this evening it was constant at 191° so that's good too. I'll watch it tomorrow too during the day time.
Tomorrow I have a appointment to get the front windows tinted to match the rest of the windows, and that will be all I can get too before me and my family drive it 2k miles from Alabama to Idaho. It should be a great drive.

Heads up, the rear glass is colored, not tinted, your AC will work 100% less if you tint the entire truck, I did the rear the lowest I could, then made the front match. I can cool the truck in less than 1 mile from my house in the dead of the day... Less heat comes in.

Pulled the engine and transmission/tc with my friends help we got it done. Tricky on sloped gravel. Used another 4Runner to help pull the engine hoist back from the chassis. So cool to see how the come apart.
I'm going to be getting rid of the rest of the truck. Is there any interest in the the frame and totally smashed body?97 az no rust frame !! And what would be a fair price to fellow members? I'll post it on the for sale thread and put up pictures, but I'm wondering if it's better to just scrap her? If y'all have prior experience let me know you're thoughts? Thanks

Are these the bushing that wear out and cause the shifter to feel really loose? If so do you have part numbers for them? Might try and get mine done too.

Plugs & wires. Went from grey random wires (which weren't branded at all, hard to tell if they were original or OEM) to blue NGK's, and the plugs were single ground and the electrodes were about gone, to Denso double ground. Looking forward to clearing the codes I caused by miswiring at first, and rolling around town today.

Day One on my R&R. Laid out a few packages that came in while I was gone and started to put them in the 4Runner.

Out with the Double DIN Android Stereo and in with the new Alpine so I can put in my switches that I've wired up and had on stand by for several months now. Because of a new Grill coming my way, I'm going to redo my Winch and decided to get switches to control it from inside now as well (These aren't wired up yet. Just mounted).

Fitted newsed fender to replace the one the prior owner wrecked. Bent the metal brackets back into place. Now just to do some sanding and painting so I dont have a green fender on a black truck.
Reinstalled repaired drivers door cylinder. Had a broken wafer. removed that one still has 6 works like a champ.

I must admit, while I love my 3rd Gen, the 5th gen looks awesome. I could definitely see owning one in the future.

Decided to paint my Savage skids. I had them off to do the trans cooler so now was the time. Here's a pro tip for those of you getting skids. PAINT THEM FIRST. lol
I didn't cause I liked the bare metal look. Well, oil and tiny rust spots gets all over them and you have to clean all that crap off before you put on the self-etching primer then paint. I cost myself about an hour of labor doing it my way.
I painted them a medium blue and with the black bumper and red calipers it adds a pretty nice contrast under the rig. I tried to get a few photo's but the suns at the wrong angle and they just look black. I'll get some soon.
I also got the Auto Meter trans temp gauge and pillar mount wired up and in place. I was so glad to rip that Glow Shift POS out of there. Amazon even gave me a full refund. The Auto Meter is easy to read, the pillar mount is bomber and I can read it in the sun. For those of you not following along Glow Shift Gauges are crap, junk, POS. I'll repeat it again in case you don't get it. Glow Shift is garbage. Do not use. lol
With the trans cooler in series with my newish rad I'm seeing temps at 150 around town and 170 highway. I hit 180 pulling a long(7 miles) steep grade. It's worth the money and time to do this.

Today I finally was able to put in new spark plugs (it had two different brands. I'm guessing someone tried to change them and couldn't figure out one side?) and wires. While I was at it, cleaned my nasty TB and MAF. I've had the 4Runner 4 months now, and I've just now been able to start doing more maintenance.
This week I also flushed the trans fluid, coolant (replaced with Toyota Red) and installed a new Denso ratiator. It's been a good week!

Depending on the brand, it came from the factory that way. It's been said that many times people had NGKs on one side and Denso (I think) on the other from the factory. Just how they rolled down the line and what they had on the shelf on each side at the time. Mind blowing in a way, but apparently harmless.
