What did you do to your 3rd gen today?

I bought a pair of nfab steps from a 5th gen owner today. If I can fab up some brackets, I think they're gonna look spot on!

I'm curious to see if this will work! I've been interested in throwing a pair on as well.

It definitely won't be easy but maybe I'm just overthinking it. I think sawing off a couple inches on the front should do the trick. If I cut into my rear flare I could probably get away with only taking off an inch or so. I'll get more detail pictures put up soon.

I understand what you're saying.. but also I don't.

You say OEM's fail after way too many miles, but 125k is a low mileage toyota. I wouldn't expect to have to replace a LBJ yet on a "normal" car. What is it about the design of our LBJ that makes them so prone to going out prematurely? For that matter, why is it such a huge deal on the 4runner when the same thing can go out on any vehicle and cause the same issues with the front suspension.

There is lots of information on this forum as to the major flaw in the application of LBJ's on 3rd gen 4runners and Tacomas.

The spindle and LCA is designed to hold the ball joint upside down so that it is under constant TENSION instead of the normal COMPRESSION. The "ball" in the ball joint is trying to be pulled out of the socket in the design on 4runners instead of being compressed into the socket.

BJ's weren't really designed to deal with tension. That's why there are so many catostrophic lbj failures. The smallest amount of wear will allow the ball slip out of the socket and your fender will eat your wheel assembly.

New Napa ceramic front brakes just installed. I took advantage of the front wheels being off and pulled back the fender liner and used a 4 lb sledge to beat the pinch welds like they owed me money!

I just got a T4R a few days ago and ordered some parts to start wrenchin' so I can go truckin'. Misfire in cyl 4, makes for some rough idling. I ordered new (reman) injectors and ignition coils to smooth it out. The tires have 100k miles on them, so they need to be replaced. I want to do the 'Tundra' brake upgrade so I just ordered some new 16"x8" wheels for it. I will put some Michelin LTX's on them. I will probably replace the lower ball joints as advised by this forum. Though I am hoping it isn't as critical as some because I have 2wd. The frame was remarkably clean and free of rust which is why I bought it, knowing there was some engine problem. The previous owner was told by Toyota that it would cost $980 to replace the injector and air intake tube leak. She just decided not to put anymore money into it. They replaced the #3 injector a couple of months ago. The timing belt and water pump was replaced at 179k miles. It has 188k miles on it now.

Well... I still font have my rear 4X Innovations rear swing out back from Thermotech in Monroe, WA. They initially said they tell people about a week for turn time, but often call a few days after drop off as they finish early. Well... we are about to round out two weeks come tomorrow. I am trying to be patient, but if I don't hear anything by Monday, I might just go pick it up to take it somewhere else, or to just POR-15 and paint it myself.

In other news, I happen to really like the OME 861 coils that I swapped in place of my LC 7 wraps. I was expecting a jarring ride, feeling every pothole and crack in the pavement. But the combination of the 861s and my Tokico black LC shocks has been pretty nice, even with NO weight, spare, rear bumper. (Not that the OEM bumpers weighs anything), or gear in the back.

I just want to get it all put back together.

Just heard from Savage today. My tentative pickup date for my bumper is Aug 5th. I hope they can also weld on the panhard drop kit when I'm there. It's been a real PIA finding a competent welder in my town.

Here's the rub. No way in hell will my wife let me put it on Sunday. Our agreement is she gets one of my weekend days. So I drive down to get it Saturday, get home and maybe get it primed and painted. The following weekend my mom is coming to visit Fri-Mon. So that weekend is out. It'll be Aug 19th before I get to put the damn thing on. Unless I try doing it at night but the wife used the rig as her DD. Grrrrrrr.

I just ordered up the 861's. After this I'm done till next year. I think. lol

Hahaha. Sounds like a job for the night shift! You don't have to wake up if you don't go to sleep. Get your assembly line ready. You could do this in stages over two nights. Remove the hitch and Factory bumper to get that out of the way. Put the hitch back on as it's just a few bolts and is the main portion of the real world bumper as it's connected to the frame and the actual bumper is not. That same night paint. And then slap it all together the next night. I suppose you could put a couple coats on and maybe take three nights. Lol.

Just kidding. I know you got to get it in where you can fit it in. Real life obligations are the Destroyers of dreams and plans. Hahahaha.

Installed leather seats and heated seats. Custom made in grey with black stitching. I ordered extra material and made "pockets" for the two front seats that have a divider so you can put your phone or wallet on one side and a concealed hand gun in the other. Took me a day and a half to do all the work.

Next week I am wrapping the door panels and center armrest.

Picked up a Trasharoo and put it to use right away. I don't have a spare tire on the back but the straps are long enough to wrap around the tailgate.

I went out shooting and then replaced the AC climate control light on my dash.

The light fix was very easy. Pull off the tabs. Pop the cover off and then remove the clear light cover via the right tab.

Hardest part is removing that damn green condom over the old light.
