Replaced nozzles with 3 spray RAV4 nozzles; see part numbers. Saw this on here a couple of years ago. Great mod and simple; greater if you have clogged units like one of mine was. Tools needed: flat head screwdriver and five minutes.

Go one step further and adjust the nozzle holes with a push pin. It makes a difference......

Hit a newly placed & unmarked speedbump at 25mph this is what happened
Driving my co-worker home on a dark freshed-paved no lines residential sidestreet when a newly-placed unmarked (black as the new asphalt) speed bump appeared out of nowhere. Hit it at no more than 25 mph, but no brakes and when it came down the other side the right front wheel separated from the axle, the exposed knuckle making a sick grinding noise into the fresh pavement :mad2:
Tow truck driver was very careful not to damage it any further as it was dragged up the flatbed. As you can see both the upper and lower ball joints are broken.
I'm sure someone has had this happen on a 1999? Should it have survived that kind of impact without breaking the frond-end like this? I'm sick to my stomach thinking how much it might cost. Any idea what this might run to repair?

Search lower ball joint failure to get an idea of what's involved. It's happened to all sorts of 3rd gens. Also seriously consider replacing the other side. How many miles did it have on it?
To clarify, your lower ball joint failed, not your axle. When it let go it took out the other stuff with it.

This is a VERY commonly discussed issue on the forum here. Seems to happen often enough unfortunately. The common wisdom is that these balljoints are a wearable service item and should be replaced with OEM parts on a scheduled basis. This seems to be the best way to prevent what happened to you.

No pics, but I got the passenger side LBJ replaced this afternoon. Now there's 2 fresh OEM LBJ's on my '01. Outer tie rod end was in bad shape, so in went a Beck/Arnley unit that had the '555' cast into it. It has to better than what was there, plus that's all that I had available to me from the commercial parts store. So odd that the drivers side OTE was in great condition. If it's not raining, tomorrow I will start the rear axle seal/brake repairs.

Added a 12V port on the rear console. It's just a plastic plate adhered over the ashtray hole.
Pretty sure I've eaten off of plates that were dirtier than what I can see of the back of your truck.
