What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Cool, and as long as none of those head bolts bottom into a water jacket you should be fine.

As far as decking goes, even a few thou off the top will raise your compression, but an aftermarket rebuilders gasket kit usually addresses that.

Let us know how she runs and settles in

Ya while cleaning the bolt holes I actually noticed that the threads stop about 10mm or so From the bottom, so def not worried bout bottoming out. Checked my old bolts too to see how much threads were worn, indicating how far they go in. All looks good.

But ya running great- much better than it was, and probably the best since I’ve owned the vehicle!

While I still had the rear of the vehicle up on jack stands, I lowered the spare tire to make room for me to get in there and wire wheel all of the rust and hit everything with a heavy coat of the Rustoleum rust converter. I then opened the diffy fill plug to see how low it was after having the axle shafts out for 5 days while waiting for parts.

It must have been leaking for a long time, it took 1.5 qts to fill it back up. Got the tires back on, removed the jack stands then went for a quick drive around the industrial park. Brakes seem ok, it definitely stops better then when I got it a month ago. Had a weird "quirk" though- I was turning a sharp right turn, when I hit the brakes the pedal dropped lower than before and the ABS cycled. Maybe I need to do a pressure bleed instead of the gravity bleed. I'll futz with it tomorrow.

Finished up my 231 Tundra big brake revival. Had some terrible shaking during high speed braking that shook the entire car. Pretty scary, but found that the Autozone remanufactured caliper had seized against the rotor.

I see you're missing your bumper flare extension. I am too...it magically flew off on the highway. Lmao.

I'm almost 40 years old and have never even seen up close or held a firearm, and most of you 'muricans seem to have them in your glove compartments, nightstands, holsters between your legs. Wow..just wow. I can't even fathom it, lol.

You must live in a really nice safe bubble!!
When seconds matter LE is minutes away.
I'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by six.
Firearms put a lot of tastey food on my table.
You'll never know I carry until some one tries to harm another, you included.

I actually took them off to clear the tires. I was planning on cutting them up and reinstalling, but I ended up really liking the look without them.

Just installed my new Borla muffler this morning!! Super stoked, loving the way it sounds! I need to get my brakes done soon, but I don't have a high lift jack so I have no idea how I am going to get the tires off any time soon without taking it to a shop...

Broke an end link trying to get the bushing bolt off so replaced them both with ACDelco ones. I'll see how they do.

I also noticed that the sway bar brackets are side specific and I had them on the wrong sides :embarassed: The poly bushings didnt seem too screwed up by it so I swapped the brackets to the correct sides and regreased with some silaramic grease and it moves way more freely now.

I put bilstein 6112s in the front a few days ago and it gave me 2.75" of lift, from the 1.97" circlip settings. 37.5" with 265/75/16 KO2. Getting an alignment tomorrow, and will probably add 10mm trim packers to the OME 906 I have in the rear and I think everything will settle to 2.5" all around. I like about an inch of rake though so I'm researching rear spring options.

I hooned around some bumpy dirt roads a little bit (with horrible positive camber from the lift) and it was great. Handled better in 2WD than the previous shocks did in 4WD. I'm excited to get the alignment and test it on washboards.

Had a little CV grease leak out so I tightened up the screwdrive clamps that are on there and I will order a diff drop.

4 days left on a 30 temp tag that can't be extended, so I went to an inspection station to find out what I missed during my repairs. Surprisingly, they only found 2 exhaust leaks on a repair that did for me 3 weeks ago, and I had a rear tag light burned out. Once I reminded them that they were the ones that fixed the exhaust and told me that it was ok, they quickly patched the hole that they missed and told me to fix the bulb ASAP, but they passed the vehicle. So at least now I can either get tags and drive it or sell it and never have to deal with the truck ever again. Still sitting on the fence about which to do, but after dealing with that horribly designed rear axle bearing/seal and a few other quirky 'Yota designs, I'm not really sure that I want to find out what's next, lol.

After leaving the inspection station, I set out to repair the bulb. I opened up the interior panel of the lift gate and had to figure out how to remove the plastic trim ring around the license plate because I also had to fix the missing weld nut that the license plate is supposed to bolt to. Good thing that I took everything apart, the bosses that the handle screws to had 2 broken bosses. I was able to use a urethane 2 part epoxy and glue it all back together. I also welded a M6 nut onto a large fender washer, then welded that over the torn hole in the sheet metal where the weld nut was supposed to be. Hit everything with a bit of seam sealer and put it all back together. Good enough for a 17 year old beater.

Was getting a crazy exhaust rattle (very tinny), thought it was a heat shield at first, but I finally pinpointed it as being the downstream O2 sensor. The nuts completely rusted off and the sensor was just rattling there loosely. There was still enough "nut" left to hold it there, so it never popped out and dangled and didn't make my exhaust much louder either, which is why it took me a few tries at pinpointing the problem.

Anywho, cleaned up the stud threads and put new nuts on. Nice and snug now, rattle is gone.

My 1996 3rd gen passed its MoT test (the annual roadworthiness test in the UK) without a hitch :thumb:

Hadn't had chance to do any preparation or checks beforehand, either, so not bad going!

Decided I didn't have enough rake...

In the middle of redo'ing my bumper and as my dad was removing stuff I can't get too I almost couldn't get down from the tailgate. I gained almost 8". Granted I removed 400lbs...

Bought my 97 sr5 3 months ago and the rear driver side window started to work sometimes, then not at all. I finally figured it out!

First attempt I did was get a spare master control switch front the junk yard. I opened my original and found corrosion and burned button connections. I cleaned them and put them back together. Window still didn't roll up..

Wire brush and contact cleaner worked well.

Next attempt I removed the rear driver side panel and tested the motor with my 18v impact gun battery. The motor works up and down. To test this you just reverse the polarity for it to roll up/down. Sorry I didn't take pics but you get the idea.

So then my 3rd attempt was to test the switch. I tested the switch by using a multimeter and checked if there was voltage when I press the button down and pull up the button. There was only 12v when I pressed down so I bought a used switch off eBay for 10 bucks shipped.

I plugged it in hoping it would solve the problem but no.. I tested for voltage again and gave me the same results, only down has voltage. Now for the finale..

Lastly, I took off both driver side panels checked the harness for any broken or damaged wires.. took roughly an hour to take apart and inspect..

So far so good then checked the pillar and in between the door

Then I checked the front door

And found THIS! 3 frayed wires that go to the rear window

Got them all connected and cleaned up. I tested the windows before I put everything back together and they work!! [emoji41]

Spent around 20 bucks for through the journey and maybe 3 hours total trying to diagnose the problem. Was worth it and I didn't find posts on this problem only rear window hatch stuff so I thought I would share. I also found help from a mr2 forum that said it's common for 90s Toyota's to have worn door harnesses. Better than going to a shop or spending $150 on a new harness. I have a video of the windows working but I don't know how to show it on here.

Congratulations! Good sleuthing and writeup :thumb:

I'm equally impressed you sill have the rubber pad on the driver's door-side carpet LOL

Any tricks to getting the panels and/or switches off and back on you can share?

V8 4WD swap

I have a 1999 4runner 2wd that I am looking into converting to a 4wd 2uz truck. I am shopping around for a tundra to convert. I have a read a few things that have been posted about the tundra drivetrain...I am curious what all is involved or if it is possible to use the tundra drivetrain, transfer case, front axle? rear axle? for the 4wd swap? what do you think? thanks for your help in advance

I think you need to post in the correct thread and do some research using the google machine
