True they are so slow and when u hit the hills or wind this thing is a dog. My trip 2 weeks ago I wanted to run off the road all those crossovers blowing by me but I couldn't catch them. I will drive my 5th gen trd pro this trip at least I can get there an entire hour sooner and stop least frequently for fuel.

Also, we had our first snow/ice here in Quebec, and had to maneuver the car down a completely iced hill. Kinda freaky, sliding all over the place and brakes being null and void, but I was able to get out of it fine. First time in that situation.

Jesus, lol. Happened to me last winter except it was with my bmw. Sudden snowfall and I live on massive hill, pretty much just slipped all the way down right into a barricade.
When you drive a 5VZ-FE you have look for reasons to tinker on your rig.
Today I upgraded from the stock '96 70A to a newused '02 80A alternator. Last winter I noticed when the electrical system was moderately taxed with headlights on, radio on and both heater fans blowing. I could audibly notice the fans slowing down or lights dimming when I hit the brakes or power a window up or down. We shall see how it behaves now...
I also swapped out the blower motor and fan for a newused one. My original one has been a little noisy on mornings for the last couple of years with morning temps <10°F.
The last thing I did was replace all of the rubber hoses up by the firewall related to the front and rear heater cores. There was some corrosion of the fittings causing some very small leakage of coolant.

So crazy man. I hear you. It's a wild feeling when you have no control of the car. My wife was so freaked out, she got out of the car and let me handle it alone lol. Can't blame her.

Did a small front end lift by adding 1/2" top plate spacers, along with new shocks.
I went with KYB KG9025 Gas-a-Just shocks, basic OEM replacement. Here they are side by side:
To install the top spacers, I replaced the original top plate studs with longer studs:
Here is the shock assembly with the spacer on top:
After driving around the block, I rechecked the hub to flare distance - it went from 21.25" to about 22.75", a bit more than I planned for. Hopefully it'll settle in a bit after driving some more (otherwise I'm going to have to raise the rear to make it level, not sure how my wife is going to like that). Here's a comp photo:
Also did an open heart surgery on the temperamental lift gate light switch, using [MENTION=5345]habanero[/MENTION]'s thread - habanero's 1996 4Runner Build-Up Thread - Page 22 - YotaTech Forums
All the details on how to remove and open the liftgate switch are in her post above. When I opened mine though, I didn't find any bugs or obvious corrosion:
So I removed the contacts and the plunger:
Cleaned all contacting surfaces with 600 sandpaper, then applied some dielectric grease:
Put it back together, hit it with some Trim Black, and called it done:
Really nice having the light come on with the liftgate open, and no more getting auto-locked out!

Also, for science, decided to throw on sensen front strut/coils @$116 for a pair, preassembled and moog “talls “ plus air bag assist... We shall see how long they offer an improved ride quality and restored height.
Think ill also try out the sensen rear dampeners to see if they can tame the bouncy-bouncy that has replaced constantly bottoming out the rear bumps!
Never would have rolled on those 285’s with no body rub! Drivers rubs the spindle though on the factory width rims.
