ok, i appreciate the research and development and manufacturing and parts specing/sourcing that goes into OEM parts. BUT WHY IN THE HELL do Toyota parts cost so much more than aftermarket parts??? Just priced parts for a tune-up on my 2000 4runner 3.4 V6 (plugs, wires, coil packs), and figured may as well replace the injectors while i was at it, as I would have to make the same tear-down for injector replacement that has to be done for a tune-up (appears the original injectors were still in service ay 240K miles, bless 'em). But $560 for parts !!!??? Plus another $800+ for labor???!!! For a ****ing tune-up???!!! Am I in some kind of nightmare???!!!
I did some research/checking (semi-retired attorney, computer research has made me a lot of money) and found NEW injectors, spec dual electro plugs, 3 coil packs and wires, and the throttle body and plenum gaskets (necessary replacements when you take the fuel injection system apart to get to the coil packs and plugs), all for less than $200 delivered to my door, on Ebay.
Yes, I would rather buy from the dealer. Yes, I would love to have that close relationship with people I would like to depend on to maintain my daily transportation. Yes. I have bought a few beers for dealer service managers and dealer techs in my past years. And I have learned, and I am sure the reader knows, to build a $30K car from the parts sourced from the dealership parts department would cost $100K. A real pity, and an open secret.
I cut my teeth wrenching on '60s and '70s muscle and "fun" cars. After watching Timmy the Tool Man and a few other videos, I see nothing to prevent me from tuning up this little fuel-injected V6, but dealer parts prices are OUTRAGEOUS. I understand "Toyota reliability" that is engineered into, and expected from, the branded parts. But when shop managers tell me they regularly use Ebay parts to cut overhead, why should I pay dealer service prices for something I can do myself, with the same Ebay parts??

Please stop spamming the same rant in random threads. We get it, you hate paying dealership prices for OEM parts. Once is enough. At least be more creative with your whining and change it up or make it interesting. You have 15 posts, and 9 of them are the same spammed rant. That's just lazy. I believe you can do better than that. Even with the severe handicap you have being from Florida.

Lol they are basically the same thing. The 96 is manual so it’s more fun to drive. But the 02 has all new suspension so it feels a lot better/ newer on the road. As far as power goes the manual one definitely does not feel underpowered like the auto did before I supercharged it.

I think manual supercharged would be the way to go

I love them both. I wish I could buy them all.

No wheel spacers was thinking about getting some but they hang out almost flush with the limited flares I got the -6 offset the most they had in a 16 inch wheel not sure what the backspacing is. There on 285/75 maxxis razr mts.

Finally lifted it. OME 880/890 with Bilstein 5100s, Mevotech 2ng gen rear sway end links front/rear, Level 8 MK6 16x8 -10 and 265/75R16 Wildpeaks. :reddance:

Hit a bump and got my clock back

For most of the years I've owned my 4Runner, a solid thump gets my clock back every so often when it fades out!

Installed a Rockville SS8P sub under the drivers seat. Really fills out the lacking low end... I had upgraded to a Pioneer head unit and Kicker component speakers but any sort of depth or bass was nonexistent. Not anymore!!!

Converted my single element bulb turn signals, to dual element bulb turn signals/parking lights/running lights. I did this to my '01 Tacoma a few years ago, and finally got around to doing it on the T4R.

LOL, and here I am, looking at how to get the seat LOWER (can only do the back) so I'm not constantly banging my head against the headliner. If it were only me driving, I'd delete the seat rails. 6'4" problems... (along with the bad back, joint pain and shorter lifespan).

Saw your back up light thread, Is that a stock bumper that you painted black ? Looks good. Will be installing a ARB this spring on front, thought of painting the rear black. Not sure how that will look on a silver runner, but looks good on yours
